One of our most popular posts to date is “7 Things We Learned About Kristen Stewart From Her Red Carpewalk Interview.” The interview, which was published on October 19, 2011, focuses on Stewart and her relationships with Colin Firth, Benicio Del Toro, and Robert Pattinson. It also discusses, among other things, how her latest film, On the Road, differs from her previous two independent films (which she wrote and directed), how she would’ve handled being in a Twilight movie, and what she thinks of being compared to Megan Fox. In case you missed it, here’s the link.
Robert Pattinson: Not Gay? You Can’t Tell From His Interview
This week we look into the heart of darkness itself: Robert Pattinson’s sexuality. After a rather confusing few months in which the actor seemed to court the media and public with his flashy lifestyle, we finally get an answer to the age-old question: Is Robert Pattinson gay or straight?
Pattinson has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. Since breaking in to acting at the age of 15, he has consistently been one of the most in-demand stars in the industry. The handsome Brit was named after Ernest Hemingway and Winston Churchill, among others, and went on to star in prominent films such as Water for Elephants, Twilight, and The Rover.
Although he has never given a direct answer to the question of sexuality, Pattinson has made several clues in his interviews and social media activity that leave little doubt as to where his heart lies. First, he has referred to his on-screen characters as “gay protagonists,” implying that he identifies with gay men in some way. He has also posted numerous selfies on social media sites like Twitter and Instagram, many of which show off his perfectly coiffed hair and striking blue eyes.
Pattinson has recently gone semi-permanent in a lip ring and ear piercings, which have drawn comparisons to Elton John’s classic song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” In a 2011 interview with GQ, he was asked whether he identified as bisexual: “Being bisexual is great, but it can be confusing. For me, it was a little bit frustrating, because I wasn’t always sure whether I wanted to be with a guy or a girl. It was a difficult decision-making process.”
An Arguably More Confusing Relationship
Pattinson first crossed our hearts when he was cast in a 2009 film adaptation of the popular British novel, Twilight. The actor took on the role of a struggling novelist who falls for a wealthy young woman (played by Kristen Stewart).
Despite the film’s PG-13 rating (for “moderate romantic drama”), the couple’s torrid affair is steamy enough to make even the most ardent fan blush. It continues in the bestselling book series that the film is based on, and even continues in Stewart’s latest film, On the Road. The actress plays an aspiring journalist who falls for a charismatic truck driver (Pattinson).
When it comes to his personal life, it seems that Pattinson is always looking for something new, exciting, and—most importantly—confusing. In an interview with the BBC, Stewart revealed that she and Pattinson had tried anal sex, which he described as “really good.” The actress said: “I think there’s a lot of pressure for people in relationships to be doing something new together, something adventurous, and I think that’s what makes it harder for people to be in a relationship. There’s so much more to life than just having sex.”
A Romantic Comedy To End All Romances
Pattinson may have found a soul mate in Stewart, but his romantic adventures don’t end there. In fact, it would seem that the 29-year-old actor is constantly searching for the perfect partner. A source told Hollywood Life in 2011 that he was “very much into” American actress Megan Fox when he was 22 and 23 years old. Fox was even named after a character in the Twilight series: Bella Swan.
While there is no denying that Fox and Pattinson share a passion for cars and motorcycles, the actress has slammed her ex-boyfriend in the press. In 2012, she tweeted: “I know how much my kids miss their daddy and how much Megan Fox misses hers. I hope they can work it out.”
When it comes to choosing a partner, it seems that Pattinson is looking for someone who shares his passion for the arts and his fear of commitment. The actor was once engaged to fashion designer Rachel Antonoff for a few months in 2010, but the couple called off the engagement in December of that year. According to a 2011 interview with InTouch, Pattinson said that he had considered commitment “one of the most scary things” he had ever faced. “I feel like I’ve been given a second chance at life, and I don’t want to waste a second of it,” he said. “There’s too much happiness in the world for me not to want to share it with someone I love.”
A Career In Stakes
Pattinson’s career has been on an upswing in recent years. A lead role in the Twilight franchise netted him a Golden Globe nomination and won him numerous other awards and critical acclaim. He went on to star in another well-received adaptation, the 2013 romantic comedy Getaway. Now that he’s turned 30, he seems to be finding the right balance between relaxation and work. In 2014, he was named the Sexiest Man Alive by Rolling Stone magazine. He also has an exhibition in LA called “The Art of Robert Pattinson” that draws on his artistic ability and love of vintage automobiles.
Even if you’ve never heard of him, you probably know of Robert Pattinson’s remarkable beauty. Few people embody classic movie star looks more than the English actor. From his breakout role as the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight films to his portrayal of a serial killer in the upcoming The Woods, Pattinson’s gorgeousness knows no bounds. We can’t resist his charm, either—from his boyish grin to his devastatingly blue eyes. It’s no wonder that he’s found such success, and such fans.
