After news broke about Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson with her Snowflake singer Theo Hiddleston, people wondered: Will this break up the on-again, off-again couple?
To this day, the question remains: Is this a good sign for their relationship?
Here, we’ll explore the pros and cons of this union.
Pros
There’s a lot to love about this particular romantic pairing. For one, they both came from broken homes and have been struggling with fame their entire adult lives. They’ve proven that they can work through their issues and have a stronger commitment to sobriety and healthy living than most people their age. They also share a genuine appreciation for art and culture, which makes them a perfect match.
If you’re reading this, I assume you’re at least somewhat interested in the Twilight Saga. But even if you’re not, the overarching themes of love and loyalty in their films hold true beyond the Twilight universe. For instance, in the gritty drama Somersault, Robert and Kristen work through their issues with honesty and integrity, displaying an intimate on-screen chemistry that Elle magazine’s senior editor, Bethany Silverstein, describes as “riveting.” As Silverstein puts it, “They have this undeniable connection that feels genuine and romantic without being overbearing.”
For someone who’s been burned by cheating girlfriends in the past, this would seem like a better option. But even for those of us who aren’t looking for a relationship, we can still appreciate their on-screen chemistry.
There are also a lot of positive influences in Robert and Kristen’s lives that didn’t come from Hollywood. As they’ve mentioned in interviews, they’re both fans of T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound, for whom they named their dog. According to Kristen, “[Eliot] was a really big influence on my writing. … He had this real knack for making you fall in love with a moment and a feeling.”
They’re also both animal lovers, with Kristen crediting their dog Scribbler for inspiring her 2014 film, Midnight In Paris. (Oddly enough, they named their first child, Boomer, after the main character in Mad Max: Fury Road.) In fact, Robert even went on a tiger hunt with Joe Manganiello (“Ned Stark”) in the 2017 film Venom, which was inspired by their time working together on the set of Dark Phoenix. (The hunt was for a fictional African species called a Yeti, but the majestic cats are unmistakable.)
So, as you can see, they have a lot going for them. But just like any other couple, they have their problems. Namely, Robert is a bit of a hermit and doesn’t always have much to say. Fortunately, this is balanced out by Kristen’s more extroverted nature. Still, the only way they can truly grow as a couple is if they can learn to communicate better.
Cons
Like any other couple, Robert and Kristen have their quirks. For example, in an interview with Elle, Robert admitted that he doesn’t like to wear shoes, while Kristen revealed that she doesn’t like to watch scary movies alone. (She even asked for her own personal stylist.)
The thing is, none of these issues are dealbreakers. But they can make for some very tense moments if they’re not addressed. Sometimes, the way people deal with these issues can make or break a relationship. For instance, if you ask Robert whether or not he’ll start a family with Kristen, he’ll give you one of the most sincere and earnest responses you’ll ever get from a celebrity. But if you ask him about dinner plans, he might awkwardly change the subject.
The point is that these are the sorts of things that can make or break your relationship with this particular couple. But as stressful as these issues can be, they’re also some of the things that make them so fascinating. The way they work through their differences and challenges is something to admire. And as long as they continue to fight for each other, the passion they display on screen will never get old.
