Robert Pattinson’s new year started with the premiere of his new movie, Uglydolls, on Netflix. Since then, he’s been busy promoting the film with a series of livestreamed Q&As, as well as a few magazine covers and interviews.

Premiere And Aftermovie Party

Pattinson kicked off the new year in style, with a premiere and aftermovie party in Los Angeles. He was joined by fellow Oscar nominee, Brie Larson, who plays his love interest in the movie.

The celebration coincided with International Women’s Day and was organized to highlight the films’ pivotal role in the representation of strong, independent women.

The Netflix drama series, Sex Education, also premiered on Netflix at the same time as Uglydolls, which is set in the future. The two series share an afterlife setting and feature many similarities in their narratives.

Pattinson’s love interest in Uglydolls, Evie, is a mutant who escapes death through digital projection, which was inspired by the works of H.R. Giger. This type of story is reminiscent of the actor’s 2012 movie, Cosmo Cosmo. Giger is known for his unique and organic looking monsters, which are a blend of human and animal features.

Q&As, Magazine Covers, And More

In an effort to promote Uglydolls, Pattinson held a few brief Q&As on Twitter, as well as some longer interviews.

One of the most memorable moments from these came from a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, in which the actor detailed his thoughts on the overrepresentation of women in entertainment and how he tries to change that. “We need to be better at understanding that women have problems too. They might not feel safe, or they might have children that need caring for. I think we should also look at those reasons why a woman might not feel comfortable participating in a scene, and we should respect that,” he said in the interview.

In another series of interviews, Pattinson talked about his love for comics and how he tries to find a way to blend the two. “I like seeing different worlds and telling really interesting stories. I guess you could say that I have a particular affection for comics. I like how they’re such a colorful world, with its own language and narrative style. So, you know, I just try and find a way to incorporate those storytelling tools into my live-action films, as much as I can,” he said.

The Future Of Cinema

In a recent interview with Variety, Pattinson discussed the future of cinema and how he envisions the medium changing in the coming years.

“The way people consume media is changing, and how we tell stories is changing, too,” he said. “With virtual reality, you’re not just looking at the screen. You’re actually experiencing it. So it’s not just about the image anymore.”

Pattinson sees Netflix as having a pivotal role to play in the future of cinema. “It’s really changing the game with regards to how people consume media and how they relate to stories,” he said. “I think what they do is incredible. They allow creators to tell their stories in a way that wouldn’t have been possible before. So I think they’ve changed the game for the better.”

In addition to Netflix, Pattinson has also appeared in films such as Divergent and Good Will Hunting. He next appears in the upcoming Mockingjay – Part 2, the final installment of the Hunger Games film series, as the evil Lord Voldemort.
