Last year, British actor Robert Pattinson released his first feature film in five years. Titled Remember Me, the 2015 movie marked a return to form for Pattinson, who starred alongside series newcomers and social media sensations Rose Mcgowan and Laura Marling. The movie turned out to be a critical and commercial success, becoming the fourth highest-grossing British film of all time and earning a rare nomination for Best Picture at the 88th Academy Awards. In an interview with The Independent, Pattinson discussed his hopes for the future of the film industry, as well as his experience working with Rose Mcgowan and Laura Marling.

Do You Have Any Hopes For The Future Of The Film Industry?

I think that the film industry is facing a bit of a transitional phase. It’s been incredibly challenging to find a balance between creating great content for the digital age and trying to ensure that theatres still get some form of entertainment value out of what they show. I’m sure that we’re going to see some exciting new projects and opportunities in the coming months and years.

How Did You Find The Time To Work On Your Career After Remember Me?

It was quite an eventful year. I finished promoting Remember Me in January and went straight into rehearsals for The Classical in Glasgow. It was another important step in my recovery from the ravages of addiction. Just before going into rehearsals for The Classical, I traveled to Amsterdam for the European premiere of Remember Me. It was quite an emotional moment to see the movie there and finally get the opportunity to process everything that had happened over the past year. Amsterdam is such a beautiful city. It’s amazing how much energy and life there is in the big European cities. I felt a real sense of community in the streets there. There were people everywhere – eating, drinking, and having fun – and I felt that positive vibe. I’m looking forward to going back. The movie did well in Europe and America, particularly in America, so I’m grateful to everyone who saw it and supported me during this time.

What Was It Like Working With Rose Mcgowan And Laura Marling On Set?

I’d worked with Rose before on a couple of TV shows, so it was great to have her back. And with Laura, too. We both put in a lot of hours on set, especially when we were filming in Amsterdam. The hours just kept going and going, and it was quite an adjustment to go from filming at 5 a.m. in Glasgow to being up all night in Amsterdam. It took a lot of adjustment to get used to, but we managed it. It was important for me to have a break from my usual type of work schedule, and taking a year off was the best thing for me. I needed that time to grow as an actor, and to figure out what I wanted to do next.

I think that Remember Me is such a special movie. It was important for me to take the time to process what happened over the past year and work with the team to put this movie into cinematic form. I’m proud of what we achieved, and I’m grateful to everyone who worked on it and saw it. I’m looking forward to the next step in the journey. Thank you.
