The Rover (2014)

The Rover is the second film that Robert Pattinson has directed. The first being the critically-acclaimed Water for Elephants. The film is mostly set in Spain, a country that he often visits. The story revolves around a former professional race car driver who has now settled down in Spain. He has found a companion in his adult life named Estrella (Alice Eve). Together they raise a young daughter named Daisy. The movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was later released in theaters everywhere. It is the second installment in a trilogy that also includes The Lost City of Z and The Lighthouse.

High Life (2012)

High Life is an upcoming biopic directed by Anton Corbijn and based on the real-life story of Jean-Luc Godard. The film focuses on the rivalry and friendship between Godard and American filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The movie stars Robert Pattinson as Godard, Rufus Sewell as Scorsese, and Wagner Moura as Brazilian filmmaker Glauber Rocha. High Life premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 11, 2012 and was also shown at the Toronto Film Festival. The movie was released in theaters in Germany on October 11, 2012 and is currently available for purchase on home media.

The Lost City of Z (2012)

The Lost City of Z is the first film that Robert Pattinson starred in as a producer. The British actor helped produce the historical drama. He plays the part of King George, a king who ruled over Great Britain in 1902. The film also stars Rachel Weisz, Tom Holland, Brie Larson, and Willem Dafoe. The drama is set in the fictitious Central Province of British India in the year 1902. The movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was later released in theaters everywhere. The film was nominated for four Golden Globes in 2013 including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture – Drama. It was also nominated for a BAFTA award in the UK. The movie was critically acclaimed and is considered one of 2012’s biggest hits. It currently holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 45 reviews. Its consensus is: “An astonishing portrayal of a truly tumultuous time in history, The Lost City of Z is further proof that Tom Holland is a major talent to watch.”

Martian (2012)

Mars is one of the most interesting planets due to the fact that it is slightly closer to Earth than any other planet. This means that any object or person that becomes stranded on Mars would appear brighter than usual on our planet. This is one of the reasons why the Red Planet plays such an important part in the story of the upcoming movie Martian. The movie follows a group of explorers who become trapped in an enclosed space with nothing but each other for 75 minutes. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Damon, Natalie Dormer, and Anne Hathaway. It was directed by Ridley Scott and released in theaters everywhere on October 26, 2012. The movie was a moderate success at the box office, but received mostly positive reviews from critics. Many compared it to the Apollo 13 movie because of how similar the stories are. The movie currently holds a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 11 reviews. Its consensus reads: “Martian is a well-made disaster movie that won’t ruin your day even if you’re looking for something more entertaining.”

The Great Gatsby (2013)

The Great Gatsby is the last film on the list and is the first installment in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s epic novel The Great Gatsby. It is an adaptation of the novel that was directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgelson. The film focuses on the corrupt politics in 1920s New York City. The Great Gatsby premiered in theaters everywhere on August 9, 2013 and is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $500 million worldwide. Many critics praised it for its stylish visuals and lavish costumes. Its score also won several awards including the Academy Award for Best Adapted Score, Golden Globe Awards for Best Original Score and Best Song, and BAFTA Award for Best Score. The movie has been called the “summer blockbuster” of 2013.
