It’s been a rough year for R. Pattinson. The 29-year-old British actor took a bit of a tumble off his horse last September, injuring his back. He had to cancel the remaining tour dates for his band, the Snow Patrol, and did a few interviews in a wheelchair. Then, earlier this year, his movie Never Back Down was shelved due to lack of funds. On top of all that, his former fiancee, Twilight star, Nikki Taylor, accused him of emotional and physical abuse. But all is not lost! Pattinson is still determined to prove the naysayers wrong and is focusing the latter half of 2017 on regaining his health and earning back his fans. Here’s a quick review of his year so far:
Health Issues
Pattinson’s horse-riding accident in September was a result of a freak fall. He suffered a severe lumbar spine injury and required surgery. The following month he posted an update on his Twitter, sharing the results of his latest MRI scans. “I had my fusion surgery two weeks ago, so I’m finally starting to feel like myself again,” he tweeted. “There are definitely some changes I want to make to my diet and workout routine, but for the most part it’s been a positive experience. I’m looking foward to getting back out on the horses and continuing with my career.”
While he’s been recovering, Pattinson has been doing his best to stay active. The actor has been seen out and about in Los Angeles, trying on various sports outfits as part of his recovery. He’s been spotted at the beach, cycling, and even seen on some roller skates. But aside from his busy schedule, Pattinson hasn’t been spotted eating a lot. He tweeted in January that he’s been sticking to food that’s easy to digest, like fish and chicken. Hopefully, these efforts will pay off and he can get back to his healthy lifestyle, which has undoubtedly helped him in the past and can still do so.
Rekindle His Favourite Band
Pattinson revealed in September that he’d taken on a small role in a Woody Allen movie. Besides helping Allen with some of his dialogues, he’ll be playing the drummer in a small band made up of famous musicians. The musicians included in the band include the legendary Allen Ginsberg and his hip-hop group, the Wachowski Brothers. The film is set to be released in December. In the meantime, he’s been busy promoting his new movie, Bad Time, which hits theaters Friday, September 29th.
New Band, New Album
Not content with just one film and one band, Pattinson has decided to form a new band with his Snow Patrol bandmates, Gary Lightbody and Johnny McDaid. They’ll be performing some of their hits, as well as new songs. The band debuted a new single, “The Other Side,” last week. And another new song, “Ladder,” will be released next week.
Pattinson released his sixth album, Shadows & Light, in February 2016. The album was largely inspired by the band’s eponymous show, which airs on BBC Northern Ireland. You can pre-order the album now from iTunes or Amazon.com.
While fans wait for the next album, they can listen to old favourites like “If Ever You’re In My Town” and “The Ballad Of Me & Mrs. Jones.” These tunes represent the best of his previous work and will be featured on a special edition of his album, released later in the year.
Nikkileaks, Then And Now
Pattinson’s former fiancee, Nikki Taylor, has kept a close eye on his career, as well. Besides getting engaged to the 29-year-old British actor, Taylor has tweeted some unflattering details about him over the years.
For those who don’t know, Taylor is the ex-wife of Twilight actor, Taylor Lautner. She filed for divorce in 2015, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Since then, she’s been sharing screenshots of text messages from Pattinson, which have mostly been unflattering. She even revealed that he’d blocked her on social media. But despite all this, Taylor has remained a fan of Pattinson. She’s continued to comment on his films and music, while also keeping an eye on his career.
And now that he’s facing some health issues and has less time to devote to social media, Taylor could have her opportunity to dig up some dirt on her former boyfriend. The only problem is that she doesn’t have any new information to share. Still, she’s going to continue to comment on his films and music while also trying to stay positive.
A New York Minute
This February was a big month for Pattinson. Not only did he wrap up a stint on Broadway playing the role of Mark Anthony in a revival of the play, My Fair Lady, but he also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The actor was nominated for an Emmy last year for his role as Tom Barnes in the TV series, Mad Men. While some may argue that he didn’t deserve the nomination, given that he shares most of his scenes with a horse, having them walk, talk, and act like humans is no easy feat. So even if he didn’t win the Emmy, he still deserves the star.
In celebration of his recent success, Pattinson released a statement, saying, “Words can’t express how happy I am to be in a place where I can share this with my family, friends, and fans. This is a dream come true.”
While he’s been doing his best to stay busy, Pattinson has been keeping a low profile, focusing on his health and avoiding the limelight. And with the help of his team, he’s making sure that his fans don’t get too impatient and start counting down the days to September 2022, the day he turns 60.
