This Christmas saw the release of two major movies that featured Batman prominently: The Dark Knight Rises and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. It seems only fitting that the most recent round of memes to hit the web should be in reference to these films—especially since one of the memes features the two Hollywood icons in costume as their comic book icons! Let’s dive into the wonderful world of memes and see what other surprises they have in store for us this year.
Robert Pattinson
One of the first celebrities that came to mind when I thought about this topic was Robert Pattinson. He plays the notorious thief Edward Clarck in the upcoming The Batman, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting choice! I mean, just look at that face! Plus, he’s been in the spotlight since starring in Let Me In as a kid, so it’s about time that he got some recognition for all his hard work. This should definitely be on everyone’s lips by now:

That is quite the mug! He looks like a walking meme! I mean, I want to dress like that, but I’d never feel comfortable wearing something that plain. Plus, I always feel like I’m missing something when it comes to fashion. Like, what’s my hair going to look like? Am I going to wear makeup? Is this going to be a wacky, crazy costume party or something? I guess we’ll find out when October 21st, 2014, rolls around!
Batman
Yes, we finally have an answer to all the questions I asked earlier! Finally! With the upcoming The Batman, which comes out this October 21st, we can look forward to an officially licensed Bat-Man costume for Halloween parties! Talk about a Christmas present!
Let’s take a quick look at some of the highlights of this costume (which will be available for purchase at many Halloween stores):
- Short-shorts and long-sleeves
- White pants
- A black belt with metal studs
- A black cape with metal fringe
- Pointed ears
- Puma sneakers
There, now you can sport the coolest Halloween costume ever and still keep your dignity!
Sherman & Peabody
Let’s move on to another famous actor and the embodiment of coolness himself, Mr. Peabody! Mr. Peabody is one of the main characters in the animated series Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which also stars the great Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle! This Christmas, everyone should be talking about Peabody:

Whoa, Nelly! Where did you get those fabulous curls? You look like a totally different person! I mean, besides the fact that you’re a cross between a canine and a feline, of course. That’s obviously why you were chosen to be in this movie!
Anyway, I digress. Let’s focus on the topic at hand.
Peabody is a genius when it comes to getting into trouble, and he and Arbuckle have a blast pulling pranks and getting into fights—especially with cops! That’s entertainment in and of itself. They’re both hilarious characters, and the fights between the two of them are so funny!
In one scene, they fight with their service revolvers, and Mr. Peabody shoots Mr. Arbuckle in the shoulder. They then fight while sitting down, and Peabody accidentally shoots his own buttocks with his pistol! It’s one of the most embarrassing scenes in the entire history of animation!
But seriously, they’re both such great characters, and such stylish fighters. I’m sure that people will be talking about this version of Mr. Peabody and Mr. Sherman for years to come.
I know I am! So cool! So stylish! So much fun to watch fight!
Rise Of The Meme Warrior
It seems like the creators of these memes aren’t content to just have fun with animals and fictional characters. No, they’ve decided to put a spotlight on real-life people as well! As you may have guessed, I’m going to talk about the wonderful world of memes and viral trends once again. In fact, I think it’s about time that I did.
This year has been an absolute treasure trove of trends, memes, and costumes. There have been some seriously iconic moments this year, such as when Darth Vader shared his pizza with a ghost, when a pigeon stole the show at the Grammys, and when Miley Cyrus joined Jack White for “Walk Off the Porkchop.” These are just a handful of the iconic moments we’ve had this year—and believe it or not, these were only a small fraction of what’s been going on!
One of the biggest memes to hit the web this year has been Jaden Smith’s “Walking Dead” walk, which was inspired by the hit TV show. This trend was so prominent that the TV show even covered it in an episode! Even Big Bird got in on the action, lending his beak for some key phrases:

Yes, we’ve seen zombie trends rise and fall throughout the years—but this year was special! Not only was it the debut of the Walking Dead TV show, but it was also the 10th anniversary of the zombie apocalypse depicted in the popular video game DayZ. So naturally, the zombie trend was everywhere, from viral challenges to viral trend lists! Here’s a short list of some of the other famous memes that rose to popularity this year:
- “Yolo” (Yeah, Ok, or Yes, lollipop.)
- “Kanye” (Jesus Christ.)
- “Milo” (Can’t decide if I love him or hate him.)
- “Duckling” (It’s like saying “dick” but it’s a symbol.)
This is only a small fraction of the memes that rose in popularity this year. In fact, I’m not even sure if I’ve captured everything. It’s probably safe to say that memes have become an important part of everyday life this year. It started with goofy videos of animals and characters, and now it’s moved into the mainstream. So let’s all enjoy this brief moment in time and take a break from our regular scheduled programming.
I mean, what is this, 2016? Is this even real life? Hasn’t this all been a dream?
