In the past year, Hollywood’s Royal Couple have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons—mostly due to their recent split. But the breakup of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s favorite couple hasn’t stopped there. As tensions mounted, Robert Pattinson and Stephanie Meyer began to explore their growing romance against the backdrop of the media spotlight.

An Unwanted Guest At Dinner Party

On April 6, 2019, the world’s media was abuzz with the news that Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight Saga, had invited Robert Pattinson to party with her at a private dinner in Los Angeles. The couple, who have been dating since June 2018, had stayed largely incommunicado since the beginning of the year, and the speculation about their relationship intensified. Reports claimed that they had spent hours locked in private conversations, trying to work out their differences.

While sources close to the couple denied the claims, it was clear that the dinner party was less of a celebration and more of an attempt to patch things up—after all, they do have a child together. It was also speculated that the invite was an indirect reference to Meyer’s ex-boyfriend, Leonardo DiCaprio, who is friends with Pattinson’s ex-girlfriend, Emily Blunt.

In an interview with Vogue, Meyer admitted that inviting Pattinson was a mistake. “I should have never done that. I think it was a bad idea. I didn’t want to do that,” she said. “That was a bad idea. We should not have done that.”

On The Road To Reconciliation

Despite the headlines, the couple’s reconciliation did not come easily. In a joint interview with Vogue, Meyer and Pattinson acknowledged that their relationship was rocky, and that they had initially met on Tinder, where they both worked as ‘dating coaches.’

“[Stephanie] said, ‘I want to meet someone who I can spend the rest of my life with,’” Pattinson said. “And so we started matching people together on Tinder and started becoming friends, and then we started dating. It was a really organic process, which is nice.”

The road to reconciliation was not without its hiccups. Reports suggested that the couple went on a ‘stag hunt’ in the English countryside after they met in June 2018. When their paparazzi-studded wedding day was over, they had a fight and called off their engagement. However, they decided to give it another go, and decided to try for a baby. They are now parents to a son, Lorenzo, born in January 2019.

In a joint interview with Vogue, Meyer and Pattinson reflected on their rocky past. “I think we just grew apart,” said Pattinson. “When you live your life in the public eye, it’s hard to develop private moments. You have to think about what you’re going to say in interviews and how you’re going to respond to things. It takes a lot of self-reflection to try and understand what’s going on for yourself. There are definitely times when I’ve gotten frustrated with the situation and said, ‘This isn’t what I signed up for,’ but I think it’s also important to acknowledge that it’s not easy being in this situation either.”

“It was always going to be tough being in the spotlight,” Meyer agreed. “The weird thing is, I think we were both more invested in maintaining the status quo than trying to change it. We were trying to keep things the same and keep each other at arm’s length. But now that we’ve been through this, I feel like we can be a bit more honest.”

A More Normalcy

Since reconciling with Pattinson, Meyer has been spotted at a number of London Fashion Weeks, walking her dog, playing with her son, and attending various Hollywood parties—including A-list events such as Dior’s 70th birthday party and the premiere of Black Widow—where she has met A-list stars. In August 2019, she was photographed leaving her grandson’s nursery school in West London with her son, wearing a floral print dress.

This is not the first time that the author and the actor have made headlines for their seemingly inseparable nature. The two spent 2018 living together in London, and were photographed every day at the Ritz Hotel. Back in 2012, it was reported that the two were engaged, and again in 2015. However, they have always been very private about their relationship, shunning the spotlight whenever possible.

In a joint interview with Vogue, Pattinson and Meyer reflected on their newfound normalcy. “It was the easiest thing in the world after we separated to have a normal life and be a normal family,” said Meyer. “It’s just what we needed. It feels right in every way, to have those three things in my life.”

“I think we both needed this time away from each other—me particularly, because I’m an actor and I needed to be working, and she needed some space,” agreed Pattinson. “Family is everything to us, and being able to spend time with Lorenzo while still being a part of the [Twilight] family is something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. It’s changed the way I see her and our connection, in a good way.”

Although the couple has faced a public relations nightmare, it appears that they have not been hurt by the experience. In October 2019, it was revealed that they had booked a romantic getaway to Turkey, for which they would be paid £25,000. They also have a dedicated Instagram account, @stephaniemeyer and @robertpattinson, where they share images of their travels and playlists of their favorite music. On the subject of their son, Pattinson stated: “I couldn’t do this without him. He’s the light in my life. We’re a team. Together, we’re going to change the world. He’s brilliant and he makes me proud.”

Indeed, it seems that the two are finally doing what many fans have been longing for since their Twilight days: sharing a sweet, private moment with one another. A photo from the dinner party, where the couple are seen holding hands, was widely circulated on social media, and has been viewed over a million times.

Despite their newfound normalcy, things are not yet over for Meyer and Pattinson. The Hollywood Royal Couple are still legally married, so any untimely separation would still be followed by a trial and the potential for more headlines. But for now, it seems that all is well and that their fans can relish in a more normalcy from D-List couple.
