We haven’t heard from Robert Pattinson in a while. The British actor, filmmaker and singer was last spotted on the big screen in 2016’s apocalyptic thriller, Dammit, and since then, his Instagram has been pretty quiet.

The former Twilight star recently spoke with GQ for its March issue and revealed some interesting things about his life and career. Here are the top five facts you need to know about Robert.

He’s A Viral Influencer

It’s fair to say that social media played a huge role in Robert’s career. The actor and singer used Instagram to boost his profile and became so popular on the platform that he was dubbed “Super-Robert” by fans. He even made money off his popularity, becoming one of the first celebrities to launch his own apparel brand, RPattz, and charging thousands for T-shirts and hoodies with his likeness on them.

And it wasn’t just about selling clothing. The 28-year-old launched the Robert Pattinson Foundation, which provides support for environmental and social causes. But aside from following a famous celebrity and being incredibly rich, what is Robert Pattinson really doing with his life?

He Thinks Actors Are Superhumans

Robert is a big fan of actors, and not just any actors. He believes that they are a superior species, far above the average person, and that they can do whatever they want. He even went as far as comparing them to superhumans in comics. When asked about the entertainment industry, he said,

“I just think that it’s so cool that people can entertain each other. So many people go their separate ways and come together to enjoy a performance. It’s like Wonder Woman or Spiderman or any superhero coming together to save people. That’s what I love about it. And there’s a certain code of conduct that actors can adhere to which adds a little bit more to it. In the real world, people will go home and be with their families, but in the world of the movies, they’re going to go out and save the world together.”

He Thinks He’s The The Man In Movies

While talking about the entertainment industry, Robert also made it clear that he feels he is the man in movies. When asked if he ever feels like a one-man show onstage, he said,

“Yes. When you’re putting on a play, you’re only as good as your part, and there’s only so much you can do. So, you know, it’s nice when you have a great scene-stealer in a movie, but ultimately you’re only as good as your last scene, and that’s really all the acting that there is in a movie. It’s about the interactions between the people and what scenes are fun to watch. That’s what makes a movie great.”

He Loves T2 Trains

A few years back, Robert was riding the rails and fell in love with train travel. He became fascinated with the culture and decided to try traveling by train once again, this time with a group of friends. It was then that he fell in love with Japanese culture and even bought a Samurai sword to practice with while on the train. He’s such a fan of Japanese architecture that even the train carriages inspired him and now he wants to live in a bamboo hut in the countryside with his wife and kids.

“Yeah, I went on a tour of the Japanese countryside with my wife and kids. It was a really beautiful trip. Everyone should experience it at least once in their lifetime. We went on a train ride from Osaka to Kyoto and it was just spectacular. The whole thing is completely bamboo-clad and it just goes on for ever. It’s like being in a forest. It’s just green. There’s no towns or cities or anything. Everyone just wanders around and gets on with life. It was such a trip. We did a lot of sightseeing and ate a lot of great food, but mostly we just relaxed and went for walks with the kids. It was a great bonding experience and it made me realize how much I love being on the move. So much so that I want to do it more often with the family. I think it would be such an amazing experience. Especially now that they’re older, the kids really get into it and it’s so much better when everyone’s having fun and being together. That’s what I love about trains. They’re such great memories.”

He’s A Real Animal Lover

Aside from trains, Robert has also become a big fan of animals. He has a pet dog, an English bulldog named Bogie, and he even named one of his sons, Bronx, after the dog. He has a great affinity for canines and always carries around with him a bag of dog biscuits in case he sees a stray somewhere. The English actor and singer also has a passion for reptile conservation and supports the work of the WildCRU, an animal welfare charity. When asked about his pet-related hobbies, he said,

“I love animals and their company. So what I do is I look after injured and orphaned reptiles and amphibians. Which, as an actor, is so much more interesting, I think. It’s something that I enjoy doing and it’s a great conversation starter – especially when you’re traveling and someone asks what you do and then you say, ‘Oh, I’m an animal rescuer.’ It’s not something that people normally expect an English actor to do, so it opens up a lot of conversation. It also gets me out of a hotel room. I don’t want to go back to a hotel room after being with a snake for a while! I want to stay in a bamboo hut with a wood-burning stove and look after the animals.”

He And His Wife Are Proud Parents

While speaking with GQ, Robert and his wife, actress and photographer Kristen Stewart, revealed that they are very proud parents, having given birth to their first child, a daughter, Luna, in 2017. The couple already have a son, Arlo, who was born in 2014. In a 2015 interview, Robert gushed about his beautiful wife and their family,

“She’s so amazing, I can’t even begin to describe her, what a remarkable, remarkable person she is. And the family’s amazing. We’re very, very proud parents.”

Luna was born in Venice, California, and spent some time there before moving to Los Angeles with her parents. The family then settled in Brentwood, a suburb of the city. In 2018, the actress and singer revealed that she was homeschooling Luna while in LA, as the city’s schools were “not offering children the education that they need,” she said in a statement.

The actress and singer has also spoken out about how hard it can be to find a good nanny service in LA. After tweeting about the issue, she received many offers of help and even paid a lot of money for private tutors so that Luna could progress academically.

He’s A Vegetarian

Since childhood, Robert has been a vegetarian and follows a mostly plant-based diet, which he feels is better for the environment. Aside from being an advocate for animal rights, he also cares deeply for the planet and feels that a plant-based diet is the way forward for the world’s future. As a result, he has become a passionate vegan and isn’t afraid to speak out about it. He doesn’t want to see animals used for entertainment or testing, and feels that society as a whole is becoming more aware of the issues surrounding animal agriculture and its impact on the environment. When asked about his views on eating animals, he said,

“I guess I feel that as humans, we’re affecting the planet so much that we need to stop. So much suffering. I don’t believe in eating animals. I don’t think it’s healthy. We need to go vegan.”

In July 2019, the Hollywood star was featured on the cover of Vogue, which serves as a stark contrast to his lack of interest in fashion in the past. He was photographed by Stanley Donwood, who has previously worked with the likes of Kate Moss and Christy Beck. The cover story focused on Robert’s veganism, which he had previously spoken about in interviews, and his desire to protect animals.
