Robert Pattinson has written a new song for his upcoming album, which is now available for pre-order. The song, titled ‘Let Me Sign’, was written by the Twilight actor and features Australian singer-songwriter, Sia.

‘Let Me Sign’ is one of four new tracks on the album, which also includes ‘Heartbroken’, ‘Sober’ and ‘Grow Up’. The full album, out June 23rd, was produced by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple) and is available to stream and pre-order now.

The Making Of ‘Let Me Sign’

In an interview with Beats 1, Pattinson said that the song was inspired by his friend and collaborator, Sia. “I grew up listening to her music and I was obsessed with her sound. It was a real joy to work with her and it came together really, really quickly. I think she was completely surprised that we wrote the song in a few days. She was like, ‘I can’t even believe this is happening!’ But it was such a pleasure to make music with her.”

According to Sia, they first began working together when they met at the 2018 Grammys. While there were no songwriting credits on the list of nominees, it’s believed that ‘Let Me Sign’ was written during that session. “He sat me down and he played me the new album and I was like, ‘Wow! This is amazing! I love it!’ And he was like, ‘It’s not finished yet.’ And I was like, ‘Well, can you email me the lyrics? I want to do something with these,’” Sia said.

Sia added that she didn’t have time to properly enjoy the song before it was time to record the vocals. After rushing to the studio, she ended up spending 14 hours recording her parts. “It was crazy! I couldn’t even breathe properly,” she admitted.

Pattinson has previously collaborated with Sia on his song ‘A Beautiful Thing’, which appears on her 2016 album, ‘The Wild’. In that song, he sings, “I want to be your everything / It’s what I want to give to you / I want to be your everything.”

Sia and Pattinson have both expressed a desire to work together again. During a Beats 1 interview, Sia said, “We never really broke up. I just never made a song with him again because I was too busy. I have so many things in the pipeline and I just didn’t have the time to make a song with him.”

Pattinson added that he hopes to work with Sia on a new song in the near future. “All I want to do is make music with her. That’s it,” he said. “I think she knows that and I think that’s why she stopped me from following, because she knows that’s all I want to do. I just want to be able to make music with my girl. I think she’s the best, in my opinion. I think she’s an amazing musician.”

Sia’s Influence

As the Twilight Saga draws to a close, it’s only right that fans begin to look back on Sia’s influence on the series. Since the beginning of the saga, Sia has had a hand in crafting the sound of the Twilight franchise, both as an artist and behind the scenes. Her work on the films’ soundtracks has earned her a Grammy, five Golden Globes and an Academy Award, among other awards and nominations.

Aside from her work on the films, Sia’s music has been used to evoke powerful emotions in her fans. Her 2015 song ‘Cheap Thrills’ was inspired by the heartbreak of her failed marriage to Russian billionaire and art collector, Dmitry Dorfman. “When I wrote ‘Cheap Thrills’ it was partly inspired by my failed marriage to Dmitry,” Sia said at the time. “I always saw cheap thrills as a way of life that I hoped I never had to experience. I hoped that it would never be me that ended up with someone like Dmitry. It took a lot of courage to write the song because I felt so vulnerable.”

In November 2018, Sia released the single ‘Breathin”, which served as the theme song for the Netflix series, ‘Glows’. The track is in the same vein as her previous work, with a modern-day take on the ‘70s soft-rock sound that she is famous for. Sia has also collaborated with Travis Scott on the song ‘Ricky’. The track was featured on Scott’s 2018 album, ‘Scared Shitless’. Finally, Sia collaborated with Rapper Lil Nas X on the song ‘Old School’. The track was released during Nas X’s 2019 album, ‘Old Town Road’.

On The Verge Of A Major Career-Hitting Album

With all of these major awards and accolades under his belt, it’s clear that Robert Pattinson is on the verge of a major career-hitting album. ‘Let Me Sign’ is the perfect demonstration of his versatility as a songwriter and performer. The music video for ‘Let Me Sign’ was also well-received, gaining nearly 500 million views on social media platforms such as TikTok.

“This is such a special moment for me,” said Pattinson in a press release about the video. “To have this song represent what I want to say and how I feel is such a gift.”

Pattinson also revealed that he has written songs for other artists before, but this is the first time that he has been able to perform them publicly. “This is the first time that I’ve ever been able to put something out there that I’ve written before,” said the Twilight actor. “I’ve always had these songs in my head but I’ve never been able to do anything with them. This is amazing!”

Pattinson has previously collaborated with Fiona Apple on the song ‘Just Like Heaven’ for her 2013 album, ‘The Idler Wheel’. It was one of only two songs from the album to attract any substantial radio airplay. ‘Let Me Sign’ is now available for pre-order on iTunes, with an expected release date of June 23rd. Fans can also catch Pattinson on tour this summer.
