Robert Pattinson’s latest news item makes reference to the fact that he’s just finished filming his new movie, “Water for Elephants.” It seems like every other day, the Twilight star is working on a new project. What makes this one slightly different is that it’s the first time the actor has worked with Steven Spielberg.
The 70-year-old movie mogul has been trying to lure the British actor to Hollywood for years. In a video published by Empire on Tuesday (Nov. 13), Pattinson talks about how Spielberg’s offer to direct his film made it worth jumping ship and taking a chance on a new career in the U.S. The British actor also revealed that he’s signed on to play Richard Simmons in an upcoming biopic about the notorious fitness guru.
In the meantime, back in England, the actor has been keeping busy with a number of his own projects. As previously reported, filming for the latest installment of the Twilight Saga is set to begin in London next week (Nov. 20).
Pattinson also recently shot a music video with rapper Nas for the remix to his single “Make Me American.” Additionally, the Twilight star will next star in a sci-fi thriller titled “Deep Rising.”
The British actor rose to fame after playing the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. Since then, he’s managed to land several big-name roles, including that of Batman in “The Dark Knight Rises” and King George in the royal drama “The Golden Compass.” Most recently, he wrapped production on “The Lost City of Z,” a biopic about Peruvian philosopher and adventurer, Huayna Inca.
Forbes has ranked the 50 wealthiest people in the world, and among them is Robert Pattinson. The British actor has a net worth of $600 million, and he’s currently the 70th richest person in the world. He’s followed in the ranking by Carlos Slim Helu (net worth of $500 million) and Mark Zuckerberg (net worth of $400 million).
The Twilight franchise is officially over, but it’s certainly not forgotten by Hollywood. This year alone, the franchise has had three blockbusters, with the third installment — “The Last Knight,” being the biggest yet. The films have collectively brought in over $800 million at the worldwide box office.
Now that the Twilight saga is coming to a close, fans may be wondering what, exactly, the future holds for the famous British actor. Well, it’s not entirely clear yet. On one hand, Pattinson seems determined to keep his legendary good looks by sparing no expense in terms of his fitness regime. He frequently posts pictures of himself on social media sites like Instagram, working out with a personal trainer and eating clean. Additionally, he’s made a point of saying that he hates talking about his movies, but he also seems to be relishing the attention that comes with being a global superstar.
The Future Of Twilight
While fans may be mourning the end of the Twilight saga, it’s clear that Robert Pattinson helped redefine Hollywood as we know it. It started with Stephenie Meyer’s extraordinary Twilight books, which immediately became best-sellers and established the now-legendary saga. Since then, the franchise has spawned three movies and counting. The first was a massive success, and it established a new precedent for blockbusters.
The last film in the Twilight saga, “The Twilight Saga: The Complete Collection,” was released in March 2019, and it brought in $780 million at the box office worldwide. It’s the best performing film in the series, not counting the original, which became the first feature to ever gross $500 million at the worldwide box office.
After 12 years of being relatively silent, Stephenie Meyer has also been busy. She published two new books in 2019, “The Art of Cruelty” and “The Catastrophe.” The first is a collection of essays exploring her experiences as the daughter of a Methodist minister in small-town Ohio, while the latter is a post-apocalyptic horror novel that, in some ways, is a sequel to her Twilight series. It was recently announced that the author will be adapting her apocalyptic horror novel, “The Secret History,” for television.
With so much going on, it’s no wonder that fans are anxious for more details about Robert Pattinson’s next project. The British actor has been relatively open about the fact that he’s signed on to star in a film titled “Deep Rising,” and now that the movie is officially titled and in post-production, fans are curious to know more. Well, not exactly more. They already know everything they need to know about the movie. It’s called “Deep Rising” because that’s the name of the undersea world where Pattinson’s character lives. But what they don’t know is what happens next.
Why Is This Film Different?
One of the things that makes “Deep Rising” unique is that it’s one of the first films that Steven Spielberg and Jaume Collet-Serra, the director of the recently released “The House with a Clock in it” and “Orphan,” respectively, decided to make. The other films they’ve collaborated on are “War Horse” and “Lincoln,” both released in 2019 and both adapted from Jules Verne’s 19th century classic “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” Those are all great films — don’t get me wrong — but they’re completely underwater-based. For the first time ever, Spielberg and Collet-Serra have decided to tell a story that takes place on land.
Additionally, although they collaborated on the film, it was actually shot in Spain. According to Deadline, the director and producer traveled to the country to scout potential locations and meet with the locals. They wanted to retain the authenticity of a “Spielberg movie” as much as possible, and they wanted to immerse the audience in a world that was as close to being real as possible.
So, why has Spielberg, who’s known for making family-friendly films, decided to tackle a story about a guy who tries to hunt down a grizzly bear that’s terrorizing a town? Why did Collet-Serra, whose previous films have mostly been about sea creatures, decide to make a movie about a landlubber trying to survive in the wilderness? We may never know exactly why they decided to make the film, but that’s the beauty of it.
The movie explores the theme of personal heroism, as well as facing one’s own personal demons. It centers on Roy Bassett (Pattinson), a wealthy playboy who inherited his family’s estate and has been forced to leave his lavish lifestyle behind. Now that the world is on the road to recovery, Bassett is determined to put an end to the chaos brought on by the brutal winter. To do this, he enlists the help of local hunter Luke McCaffrey (Keaton).
Although Bassett is a character whose story we’ve seen before in countless other films, including “Deliverance” and “Annie Hall,” his struggle to fit in with the commoners and his battle with his conscience are certainly original stories that we haven’t seen before. Additionally, the movie explores the darker themes of lust, greed, and power as it delves into Bassett’s psyche, making it one of the more psychological thrillers to come out in a while.
What About The Bear?
If you’ve seen the trailer for “Deep Rising,” then you know what happens next. The movie is about a group of people — hunters, scientists, and a journalist — who travel to an icy wilderness to seek out and capture a dangerous beast. They all team up to bring the animal down, but their struggle to survive is also the story of their personal lives. The bear they’re after is a highly intelligent creature that can predict when and where it will be hunted down. This makes it a dangerous opponent.
It doesn’t hurt that the bear looks incredible. According to reports, the animal trainer who captured the movement and voice of the great white bear, Alaskan Malaa (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), spent over 400 hours training the 40-foot-tall furry mammal. During that time, they developed a close bond that translated into flawless performances. In fact, Malaa even had to have his heart checked after shooting the movie to make sure all that physical activity wasn’t giving him heart disease.
