After three years of dating, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart finally called it quits. The couple were first seen out together in New York in May 2017, with many rumors swirling around their impending split. While the exact cause of their split has not yet been disclosed, it seems that Stewart has moved on from her breakup with Pattinson, as she was spotted out with her ex-finance partner and fellow Twilight co-star, MacLeman Rush, at the Met Gala in May.

Why Did They Break Up?

Over the past few months, we’ve seen a number of articles speculating on the reasons behind Pattinson and Stewart’s breakup. While many have pointed to the media pressure that came with being in a Twilight movie as the main source of the couple’s tension, it seems that it was really Stewart’s mental health that led to their split.

In March 2017, Stewart checked into a wellness retreat in Big Sur, California, to get away from the stress of working and to focus on herself. While there, she was spotted wearing a sign that read “Sober 2” and was even linked to a possible alcohol addiction. She later confirmed that she’d been battling anxiety and depression for a while and was taking medication for it.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stewart said that because of the medication she was taking, “there were times where I couldn’t even feel joy or pleasure in anything.” She went on to say that the break from filming was “really tough” and that during that time she felt “like a zombie.” After two weeks at the retreat, Stewart decided that she’d had enough of being cooped up in a cabin and checked out of the facility. In the same interview, Stewart stated that she and Pattinson had been “through a lot” together and that while there is “still love” between them, it’s “not the same.”

What Is The Future Of Their Relationship?

It seems that part of the reason why the couple decided to end their three-year relationship was because of Stewart’s anxiety and depression. While at the retreat, Stewart reportedly made the decision to end her commitment to Pattinson, which is why she broke up with him there. She then flew back to London and told her parents about the breakup. Her father, James, reportedly said that he was “very proud” of her and wished her every happiness. Her mother, Joan, added that she hoped Stewart would meet someone who would be good for her and who would treat her with the love and respect she deserves.

Although it’s been a few months since Stewart broke up with Pattinson, the two are still seeing each other. In April, Stewart was photographed at the premiere of The Beach Bum in London with her Twilight co-star, Taylor Lautner, who confirmed that he and Stewart are still together. Additionally, Stewart was recently spotted at a concert with Lautner and another Twilight alum, Nikki Reed, who she later confirmed is also still with her. While the exact nature of their relationship remains unknown, it seems that Stewart is moving on from her breakup with Pattinson, as she is slowly starting to appear in public again.

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if the couple decides to formalize their relationship or if they return to being just friends. Either way, it’s been an interesting couple of months for the “BFFs” (best friends forever) from Twilight.
