Robert Pattinson and Katy Perry. The odd couple of Hollywood. What are they doing together? It’s hard to say, because they keep doing something different. While Perry keeps the public gaze riveted on her through her music and fashion, Pattinson keeps his celebrity as an actor largely under the radar. That is, until recently. With his highly anticipated film, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2, hitting theaters on January 11, new evidence of his celebrity has emerged.

Breaking Dawn’s Critics And Fans

To be clear, the ‘Twilight’ series has never been a huge commercial success. Despite strong word of mouth and impressive box office numbers, its movies have never been blockbusters. Even now, nearly a decade after the conclusion of the final film in the series, ‘The Twilight Saga: Ecliptic’ (2013), sales rank it at number 7 on the IMDb list of top 10 summer holiday movies. And that’s including its two sequels.

While the movies have never been mainstream blockbusters, they’ve always enjoyed devoted followings. To this day, ‘Twilight’ fans will frequently recite lines from the films, sing along to the theme songs, and visit fan sites whenever the new installment (or one of its two sequels) comes out. And they’re not alone. Even people who’ve never been interested in this particular brand of fiction have heard of ‘Twilight,’ because it’s become a cultural phenomenon.

Pattinson’s acting career has largely been overshadowed by his boy band fame. He rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the band ‘The Wanted’ in the UK before moving to Hollywood. In the U.S., he eventually landed a role in the British series, ‘Gossip Girl,’ followed by leads in the films ‘Water for Elephants’ and ‘The Twilight Saga,’ and the TV shows ‘Nashville’ and ‘Rome.’

On the other hand, Katy Perry rose to fame as a songwriter and performer in the group ‘The Perry Twins,’ before going on to establish herself as a solo artist. She released her debut single, ‘I Kissed A Girl,’ in 2010, and went on to score platinum albums in Australia, the UK, and the U.S. She’s also starred in the films ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and its 2015 sequel. Most recently, she collaborated with Taylor Swift on a song for her Reputation album.

The two are certainly an unlikely fashion and celebrity couple. Perry is known for her high-profile fashion choices, ranging from full-length gowns and colorful hairstyles to fishnet tights and stiletto heels. Among her trademarks are heavy use of accessories and sheer fabrics. In fact, her outfits are such a significant part of her appeal that she’s been dubbed the “Queen of Shock Value.”

Pattinson, on the other hand, is known for his grungy, sometimes-raw-looking style. His interest in fashion comes from his love for music and the underground scene; he wears his love for fashion on his sleeve, as the symbolism of the bands and styles he embraces are often connected to anti-establishment or counter-culture messages.

Kicking Off 2019

The year 2019 was a big one for ‘Twilight’ fans. Not only did the series conclude with the aforementioned ‘Breaking Dawn’ sequel, but it also produced two animated films: ‘The House of Gucci’ and ‘How to Trap a Vampire.’ In addition, the year saw the publication of the highly anticipated ‘Twilight: The Official Guide,’ as well as the launch of, an exhaustive fan-run website dedicated to the series.

With the end of the decade of the 2000s in sight, it’s time for a ‘twilight’ reunion. In addition to Pattinson and Perry’s joint appearance at the ‘Breaking Dawn’ premiere in Auckland, New Zealand, on November 28, 2018, fansite managers The Twilighters were able to confirm that the pair will have a joint appearance at next year’s ‘Twilight’ fan convention in London.
