The couple have been living together for four years and have two children: a daughter, Seraphina, 3, and a son, Finnegan, 1. The 35 year old actress has been married to Olivier Martinez since 2012.

The family live in a beautiful French château. And while it may be a far cry from the fame and fortune of the ‘Cosmo’ actor, his new family life is certainly a beautiful one.

In fact, it’s been so long since we’ve heard from Pattinson that the whole world has arguably changed. So much so that he may not even recognise it. We take a look at five facts about Robert Pattinson that you may not know.

He Has A Dark Past

It’s no secret that Robert Pattinson has had a tough time. The 26 year old has been labelled as a bad boy with a good reputation. The son of legendary author Robert Pattinson, Jannette, once said: “He’s always been wild and crazy; from the moment he could walk he’d be running around the house.”

The ‘Cosmo’ actor has had multiple arrests. In 2011, while filming The Beaver in the UK, he was charged with violent disorder for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at a taxi driver. The crime was eventually dropped.

In 2014, while on the set of Skins, he was arrested for drug possession. But he was acquitted of this charge two years later. It was later revealed that he had been found with ecstasy and marijuana. In 2016, he was arrested for attempting to purchase heroin but this time he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight months in prison. The actor completed a three-month rehab programme and reportedly remained drug-free during the filming of Good Time in 2017.

He’s Earned A Reasonable Reputation

While some may still see Pattinson as a reckless young man with a bad reputation, he has in fact amassed a fairly impressive list of accomplishments.

The ‘Cosmo’ star started out in 2011 when he appeared in the British miniseries A Thousand Acres. The next year he had a role in the film version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and then followed this up with a lead role in the 2013 indie film Valley of the Gods. Good Time marked his big-screen debut and the role won him a coveted Golden Globe Award for Best Leading Actor. It also earned the actor his first ever BAFTA nomination for Best Actor. In 2017, he was nominated for his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the movie ‘Pain and Glory’.

The Dark Knight trilogy star Christian Bale described the actor as “An amazing talent,” and added: “He’s a real pleasure to work with and incredibly humble. He makes you feel comfortable in your own presence. He has a gift in that way.”

He Grew Up In Public Eye

It was apparent from an early age that Robert Pattinson had a desire to be in the public eye. The actor was born and raised in London and at the age of 14 he moved with his family to Scotland. He later attended New York University where he studied English literature.

While some saw this as an opportunity to settle down and start a family, he continued to act. At 21 he landed a role in the feature film, The Rover, followed by another lead role in the 2012 indie flick, The Necessary Death Of Charlie Sanders. Between then and 2014, he was cast in smaller roles in the likes of The Beaver, Hush and The Guest. However, by 2015 he had transitioned to playing larger than life characters in films like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant and it soon became apparent that he was happiest in these leading roles.

He’s Made An Impressive Transition

Pattinson has been quoted as saying that he prefers not to focus on his past and instead chooses to look to the future. While the actor may not feel the need to discuss his arrests and tribulations, he definitely hasn’t shied away from them. In fact, he’s often used his celebrity to speak out about issues that matter to him. He has been a vocal proponent of LGBT rights. In 2017, he was named one of People magazine’s Most Influential People of the Year for “helping to transform people’s attitudes towards addiction and helping those struggling with mental health problems.”

“It’s all about awareness,” he said. “It can be really scary to be in that situation but if I can educate people about mental illness, I feel like I’ve done something good.”

He Has A Kind Nature

Pattinson is also known for his extraordinary generosity. After finishing the filming of Good Time in the fall of 2017, he took to social media to share a touching video of himself dancing with his two-year-old daughter, Seraphina. He then asked for donations for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Within 24 hours he had raised more than $400,000 for the non-profit organization.

You may also know that Matt Damon, Gary Oldman, Mark Wahlberg and other Hollywood heavyweights are investors in the indie flick, Land Of The Lost. In fact, the entire cast and crew of the thriller movie volunteered their time to be in the fundraising video. It was an emotional video for sure, but it also showcased the incredible teamwork and dedication of the talented group.

Since then, Pattinson has continued to amass a pretty remarkable charity collection. In April 2018, he donated $150,000 to the Los Angeles Police Department to purchase body cameras for their officers. Just this month, he shared another dancing video with his followers. This time, he performed with his 2-year-old son, Finnegan.

To sum up: Robert Pattinson may not yet be the world-famous actor he could potentially grow up to be, but he’s certainly made an impressive transition. It seems he has found contentment and a reason for living in his ‘Cosmo’ fame. And let’s face facts. We’d all like to be able to say that about our own lives. He’s a talented man who deserves the good things that have come his way. It’s just a pity that the film industry has become such a tumultuous place for him. One can only hope that he finds some peace in the future.
