The Sun, The Moon And Venus: A Perfect Day In Venetian History
It’s a perfect day in Venetian history – sunny, mild, and the perfect temperature for a day out on the water. Tourists and locals alike are enjoying the pleasant weather as they soak up the rays and take a dip in the colorful canals.
This is the perfect setting for a Twilight film! While many big-name Hollywood studios have gotten out of the habit of making movies set in Europe, The Twilight Saga has bucked the trend, and stayed true to the medieval city’s rich heritage. It’s not hard to see why. With its large international fan base and huge retail economy, Venice is one of the most recognizable cities in the world. It’s renowned for its art galleries, restaurants, and nightlife – everything a movie star could want!
Venice offers lots of opportunities for tourists, with almost 300 churches, palaces, and other buildings open to the public. It also has over 60 museums, making it one of the most important cultural centers in the world. If you visit during the day, you’ll have the opportunity to see locals, with most of the city’s population working and going about their daily lives. At night, the city’s historic buildings are floodlit, creating a marvelous atmosphere that would be perfect for a movie!
A Real Urban Jungle
The city of Venice is located on the Italian Riviera, in Southern Italy. One of the main roads that runs through the city is the Via Razzi, which connects Venice with its mainland rival, Porto San Stefano. The two cities are only 11 km (7 miles) apart, but have very different atmospheres. There’s more than enough space in Venice for the whole population to get out of town for a while!
Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world. Its historic Piazza Santa Maria della Salute is one of the most photographed spots in the city. Every day, couples hold hands as they stroll down the small street, looking for a wedding photographer to capture their big day. When night time falls, the lights along the Ponte Rialto and the Ferrovia (railway station) turn on, creating a gorgeous display that has earned Venice the nickname ‘The City of Lights’. Every year, the city celebrates its Couples’ Night, when the entire population gathers for a massive display of fireworks and a picnic in Piazza San Marco.
Over 60 Shopping Malls
One of the biggest draws for tourists to Venice is the city’s shopping malls. There are 12 shopping malls in Venice. Most of the city’s best restaurants, bars, and galleries are located within these structures. They’ve also become places for the city’s population to escape the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. There are so many options for shoppers, with big-name international brands and local art galleries alike. It’s easy to spend hours browsing the various shops, looking for that perfect item for yourself or your loved one.
Over 300 Restaurants
With almost 300 restaurants, Venice is home to one of the biggest and most varied food scenes in all of Europe. The city is certainly not short of options for those looking for a bite to eat, with everything from fast food to full-on gourmet. If you’re looking for a luxury meal, you’re just a few minutes walk away from a Michelin-starred restaurant.
It’s difficult to get a picture-perfect meal in Venice. For such a small city, there are so many places that provide some incredible dining experiences. The only way to truly savor every bite is to go at the same time as the rest of the city. If you can, try and catch a film or a play at one of Venice’s numerous theaters.
The Perfect Weather For A Trip To Italy
The British actor Robert Pattinson is most famous for his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga. The first installment of the franchise, Twilight, became one of the year’s biggest hit films. It was followed by the hugely successful Twilight Saga: New Moon, Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Since 2014, Pattinson has been attached to several non-movie projects, including The King’s Speech and the Dune series!
The franchise has become so popular that it’s spawned several memes and jokes about the setting. The most famous of these memes involves the ‘Venetian blind selfie’, where users would photobomb each other while holding up their Venetian blinds as makeshift curtains. This is a reference to the fact that in The Twilight Saga, the protagonist, Bella, wears Venetian masks to conceal her true identity from the public. After hitting it big with The Twilight Saga, Pattinson was able to land several other high-profile roles, including that of Batman in The Dark Knight Rises, Ironman in The Avengers series, and James Bond in the upcoming Spectre. He will next star in the thriller Goodbye Christopher Robin.
Everything Else You Need To Know
If you want to truly understand the appeal of Venice for movie-makers, it’s important to look at the other aspects of the city that didn’t make it into The Twilight Saga. The first movie in the series, Twilight, was largely set in Forster City, an urban fantasy location that was designed to look like an English village but with more realistic modern buildings. Even then, Venice was the perfect choice for the story. The city’s picturesque canals and winding streets provide a perfect backdrop for the fantasy world of Twilight.
The second movie in the series, New Moon, was shot entirely in Vancouver, with the exception of a few key exteriors in Forster City. Although the movie was set in the same universe as Twilight, it focused heavily on the trials and tribulations of an adult vampire, Charlie, as he adjusted to life as a full-time hunter. This is in marked contrast to the laidback attitude of the series’ main protagonist, Edward, who, in the words of the script, ‘enjoy[s] his life[…] in a kind of easy peace’.
Vancouver’s beautiful Stanley Park served as the perfect backdrop for New Moon, with the main characters often taking strolls through the charming green landscape. The movie also featured the Sustainability Tower, a striking green building that is the park’s focal point. While many scenes were filmed at night, the tower was lit up in rainbow colors to give it a magical glow!
