You may know that Robert Pattinson is one of the most well-known faces in the world, thanks to his work as the male lead in the wildly popular Twilight series. But did you know that he doesn’t actually consider himself to be that good-looking? No, he doesn’t. The British actor and model actually states that he is, in fact, so ugly that people often walk by him without even realizing it.
The 36-year-old actor made the revelation while speaking with the New York Times. When asked about his perceived beauty, Pattinson didn’t mince words. “I’m so ugly I wake up some mornings and think, ‘Oh, crap, what have I done?'” he said. “I’m too ugly for words. I don’t think I’ll ever get a girlfriend.”
While he may not see himself as the most handsome man in the world, he is confident that his acting skills and fame have helped him to overcome his looks. “But that’s okay, because at least I can act, and that’s what’s important, isn’t it?” he said. “I love being an actor, and at least I can bring something funny or interesting to the table. It would be a shame to have all that talent and not be able to express yourself in a funny way.”
His Parents Were Shock And Awe
Pattinson was born in London, but moved around a lot as a child. He lived in Barcelona for a while and then returned to England, where he grew up. He attended the prestigious Saint Martin’s School of Art and then went on to study acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (L.A.M.A.) school. He made his professional debut in 2007 and has since maintained a stable career, appearing in both film and television. He’s also made a name for himself as a fashion icon, often wearing expensive brands and being sponsored by them. He has also been photographed wearing a $40,000 ring.
Before he became famous, Pattinson had a fairly unremarkable career, appearing in films such as Alpha and Omega, A Most Wanted Man, and a 2006 adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. He also had a starring role in the 2011 biopic of late fashion legend Gianni Versace, titled Villa Borghese. As previously stated, the Twilight series made him a household name, with his portrayal of the vampire Edward Cullen earning him widespread recognition. Since the franchise’s success, he’s appeared in other adaptations of bestselling novels, including The Fall of the House of Gucci and the upcoming Dark Shadows.
He’s Confident He’ll Never Get Tall
While many Hollywood stars have tried and failed to emulate the looks of their favorite actors, Pattinson has taken a different approach. He has tried to tone down his height, and has even gone as far as to change his surname to something that sounds shorter. It seems that he’s realized that having a tall entrance is something that can get you noticed, but more importantly, get you hired. Just look at his recent work compared to his earlier films. The actor is clearly not satisfied with his current height, but is trying to make the most of it.
In an interview with GQ, Pattinson revealed that he’s spoken to legendary acting coach Anna LaCaze about how to improve his performance. “She’s helped me find the joy in acting again, and reminded me of why I fell in love with the profession in the first place,” he said. “She’s helped me find the confidence to just be myself and not worry about what other people think.”
He Has A Dark Sense Of Humor
Pattinson’s sense of humor is dark, to say the least. One might even refer to him as having a “Dark Lord Syndrome.” He has discussed his love of comedy with GQ, stating that he often does impressions of famous people and even goes as far as to audition for roles based on characters he has played. He has also spoken about his delight in playing villains, noting that they make him feel like a “bad boy” for a brief moment. And then he adds with a chuckle, “But I always wish it was just for a little bit longer.”
While he may have a dark sense of humor, he is not a serious person by any means. Speaking with the New York Times, he has said that he doesn’t like to over analyze things and that he often gets lost in thought while walking around London, which leads him to wonder if anyone is even paying attention to him. “I never know if people are talking about me or not,” he said. “Sometimes it feels like they’re staring at me, other times it feels like they’re not even looking at all.”
He Has No Regrets
Despite his misgivings about his looks, Pattinson has no regrets about his decision to be an actor. “If I hadn’t done this, I don’t think I’d be who I am now, because this is who I am now,” he said. “I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. This is what I know how to do, this is what I love, and I don’t see myself growing up and doing anything else.” He continued, “I don’t think I’ll ever get over this, unfortunately. I’m so ugly I wake up some mornings and think, ‘Oh, crap, what have I done?'”
Ultimately, it seems that Pattinson is just happy to be himself and to share his thoughts on acting and fashion. “I never try to be anyone other than myself,” he said. “I think that’s the best way to go about it.” No matter what anyone says about him, Pattinson will always be able to say, “I’m so ugly I wake up some mornings and think, ‘Oh, crap, what have I done?'” and burst into laughter.
