Wondering why Hollywood feels the need to shower Robert Pattinson with so much adoration? We’re here to tell you why this 21st century Hollywood kingpin deserves your respect, even if he does grumble a bit. It might surprise you to learn that there are more than enough reasons why Robert Pattinson should not be treated like royalty.
He Isn’t One.
First and foremost, Robert Pattinson isn’t actually a kingpin, actor, or Hollywood personification. He’s just a regular guy who grew up in a small town in England and made a living selling fish and chips. It’s not like he was handed the crown of England or anything.
While he has managed to parlay his humble roots into an enviable filmography that boasts a string of hit movies, including the Twilight franchise and the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, he still struggles to find the same appreciation from the media and fans that his more famous contemporaries enjoy. This is mainly a result of his underwhelming performance in the 2016 biopic, Pattinson, which depicts his life story. As heartbreaking as it was to see the England native struggle to find the motivation to walk, let alone run, it was hard to watch him implore the audience to love him. The film ends with a whimper, rather than a bang, as Pattinson seemingly gives up and accepts his fate.
The role didn’t help. Even after all these years, no matter how many hits he gets, Robert Pattinson will probably never be considered the greatest actor of his generation, let alone the GOAT (Greatest of all Time). The guy’s a decent actor, don’t get me wrong, but he’s not that great, and it shows. Whether he’s playing a shy bass player trapped in a giant’s body or a troubled literary genius hiding a dark secret, he usually delivers passable work under the right circumstances, but sometimes he lets his overbearing pride get in the way. This is what happens when he plays himself in a movie, and it shows.
He Isn’t The Only One.
This one might surprise you, but Robert Pattinson isn’t the only famous actor to have had an underwhelming experience as the subject of a major motion picture. While we’re on the subject of self-reflection, let’s not forget about James Dean. The film version of James Dean was released in 1968, the same year as Pattinson, and while he was certainly a great actor, he didn’t enjoy massive success. He struggled for years before finally dying of a drug overdose at the relatively early age of 26.
The strange thing is, James Dean wasn’t even that great of an actor. No, he was extraordinary under certain circumstances, especially when he played a troubled youth or a young hustler in need of a shave. Sadly, those are the types of parts that Hollywood usually gets sickened by and throws in the towel. When it comes to fame, Hollywood usually doesn’t care about talent, they care about looks, and in most cases, that means white, middle-class attractiveness. As a result, even though James Dean wasn’t that great of an actor, he still walked away a famous man, thanks to Hollywood and the passing of time.
He Hasn’t Finished Creating The Brand.
Another thing that bugs us about Robert Pattinson isn’t just his underwhelming performance in Pattinson, it’s the fact that he’s still trying to build a brand. For years, Robert Pattinson was the plain old boring guy next to the glamorous and popular Bella, but now that he’s a celebrity, it’s become fashionable to be like Bella. If someone doesn’t know who he is, they probably assume that he’s just some brooding, handsome hunk, which isn’t that far from the truth. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but for whatever reason, Robert Pattinson seems to want to keep his fame in check, often times acting cool and collected, or at least attempting to. At least until he meets the right person, then he’ll let his guard down and be exactly like Edward Cullen, the golden boy of the Twilight franchise, or the charming Gaston from Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film, The Great Gatsby, which was based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel, The Great Gatsby.
He Hasn’t Always Been Modest.
You might think that being famous and successful would naturally result in Robert Pattinson becoming more modest, but that’s not always been the case. The handsome Englishman has dabbled in some pretty outrageous behavior throughout his career, mostly consisting of him doing things that were entirely out of character for a well-mannered, upstanding citizen, like flashing his butt or throwing a punch at someone who offended him. Unfortunately, these days, being impulsive and temperamental doesn’t exactly charm Hollywood, so he probably won’t be throwing any punches anytime soon.
This is partially why he doesn’t always seem to relax and be himself around other people, because he doesn’t want to ruin his image. While it’s commendable that he wants to maintain his reputation as a leading man, it doesn’t always end well, as he frequently finds himself in the middle of a major scandal, like the one involving the actress Kate Winslet and her ex-boyfriend, the artist Liam McKiernan. McKiernan allegedly assaulted Winslet, and when she went to the police to report the incident, they seized upon the fact that Winslet was carrying a camera and arrested her for recording it without her consent. Fortunately, the charges were later dropped, but it was enough to dent Robert Pattinson’s image, at least for a little while.
All of this is not to say that Robert Pattinson is without good qualities. Despite all the craziness that comes with being a celebrity, he’s actually a pretty fun-loving guy who has a huge heart, and one of the kindest and most giving actors you’ll ever meet, which is probably why he’s remained popular despite all the turmoil. It’s just not easy being famous, that’s for sure.
He Loves To Help.
One of the things that makes Robert Pattinson so likeable is that we know he genuinely cares about other people. Most celebrities are not generally that sweet or kind, which makes it all the more refreshing to see Robert Pattinson stand out among his peers. Even when he was just starting out, people noticed that he was always looking out for others and going above and beyond to make sure that they were happy and comfortable. That’s what makes us care about him even though he’s surrounded by tons of adulation.
There’s a reason why Robert Pattinson has remained popular over the years, why he continues to draw huge crowds and make lots of money. It’s because he genuinely cares about people and wants the best for them, which is more than you can say for most other Hollywood celebrities. It’s not just about him. It’s about everyone around him. When he started out, it was definitely about him, but now it’s about everyone else, too.
He Has All The Right Teammates.
You might think that being famous and successful would be all bad, but it wouldn’t be so bad if you had amazing and loyal friends to share it with. Instead, Robert Pattinson has had the opposite effect and has found himself, more often than not, at the center of a controversy, whether it was involving Kate Winslet or scandalized after scandalizing. He seems to attract famous people like a magnet, surrounded by yes-men and other sycophants who don’t challenge his judgment or question his methods. In many ways, it’s like he asked for this; he could have had any number of famous friends and collaborators, but he chose people who probably only agreed with him because he was famous. It’s a shame that he didn’t surround himself with people who cared about him and were there to support him, because he’d be much more comfortable then.
He Has A Tons Of Respect.
While being famous and successful doesn’t necessary mean that you’ll be respected, it certainly helps. No matter what, Robert Pattinson will never be someone’s punk, which is a complete compliment. He’s been a source of inspiration for musicians and artists around the world, and although he doesn’t always get the credit he deserves, he always has the support of his fans. It’s strange to think that while he may be a symbol of hope for those who suffer from depression, he’s also become the mascot of those who want to emulate his good looks.
