Welcome to Episode 1 of the Classic TV Show Scandals Podcast. This week, we’re going to be hearing from none other than the actor and model Robert Pattinson. As you might imagine, we have some pretty big things to cover, so let’s get right into it.

Early Life And Career

As we mentioned, Pattinson was born and raised in London, England, and grew up with his twin brother, James. He began his acting career at the age of 8, and by the time he was 10, he was starring in several West End plays, including Oliver! and Les Miserables. He went on to attend Eton College, where he graduated with a degree in history. Afterward, he moved to New York City and attended the Acting School Of Broadway. In 2014, Pattinson was named one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors. He was eventually engaged to be married to Francesca Hayward, the daughter of rock musician George Hayward. The wedding bells never rang, however, and the lovebirds went their separate ways in 2019.

Mental Health

In the past, Pattinson has mentioned that he’s been diagnosed with ADHD and is on medication for it. He’s also said that he’s been through a lot of mental anguish over the years, which he attributes to his mother’s death when he was 12. In a 2006 interview, he attributed this trauma to his “very chaotic” upbringing. He’s also struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction, and while he’s never been formally diagnosed with this problem, close friends and family have said that he’s had several serious relapses in the past. He’s attended rehab several times, and in April of this year, he checked into a 90-day treatment center in New York. Rumors of his drug addiction persisted even after he completed his treatment program, but he mostly kept to himself and continued working. In April 2020, he married his longtime partner, Erica Green, and the two were happy to share their news with fans by posting a picture on Instagram.

Style And Fashion

Like many Hollywood stars, Pattinson is a high-profile fashion figure. He’s frequently been seen in Gucci, Dior, and Yves Saint Laurent, and in 2016 he even designed a collection of men’s and women’s clothing for the French luxury goods house. He’s also been known to wear high-end brands on the red carpet, such as Dior and Gucci. In the past, he’s credited his fashion sense to his mother, who he said was “very stylish.” He’s even credited her with teaching him how to tie a tie. Despite his good tastes in clothing and accessories, Pattinson has also been known to wear less fashionable attire. Recently, he’s been spotted in hoodies and leggings, which are more common items among teenagers than older generations. In a rare moment of vulnerability, he shared with Vanity Fair magazine that his style identity is still evolving and that he’s not quite sure how he’ll look in his own 20s. “I don’t know how old I’ll be when I’m 50,” he said. “I’ll have to find out later.”

Relationships

While dating the mother of his son, Taylor Swift, in 2013, Pattinson admitted that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be a father. Shortly before their split, the singer/songwriter gave birth to their son, Vinnie. “I’m not sure if I’ll ever want to be a father,” he said. “It’s weird to say, but it’s true. The truth is, I don’t know if I’m cut out for that role.” Despite this admission, he went on to marry Erica Green in April this year. A month later, he tweeted that their marriage “felt so right” and that he was “grateful to [have] found [her].” Since then, he’s been very open about their relationship and the fact that they’re both in committed long-term relationships with other people.

Sexual Misconduct

In 2016, Vanity Fair published a detailed article about Brett Kavanaugh, who was then a Supreme Court nominee and facing an accusation of sexual misconduct from multiple women. One of Kavanaugh’s accusers, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that he pinned her to a bed during a party in high school and tried to take off her clothes. When she was 15, a drunken Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party. “I looked up and saw Brett Kavanaugh’s body, naked from the waist down, and he was pinning her down on a bed,” she said. “I saw his pubic hair, and I believed she might be a virgin.” Kavanaugh denied the allegations and was subsequently confirmed as a Supreme Court justice. In a recent interview, he expressed regret about his behavior but said that he hadn’t broken any laws. “I’m not proud of any of my actions, but I won’t deny anything,” he said. “I think that, even as recently as, I don’t know, 1995, people didn’t really talk about the impacts of sexual abuse and assault.”

Home Life

Pattinson lives a relatively quiet life in London. After his recent wedding, he bought a $16.5 million mansion in the English countryside, which he describes as “cosy.” He also owns a $7.5 million farmhouse in the south of France that he rarely visits. He spends his time in London working on his new book, Behind The Scenes, and promoting his upcoming projects, including a comedy series called Landlord. He also makes appearances at book festivals and signings, and recently, he visited the US for the first time in years to promote his new novel, Smoke Signals. In his 2017 memoir, Traveling Alone, he wrote about his difficult relationship with his mother, Kathleen. He also talked about the benefits of being an only child and how he grew up without any distractions or obligations. Despite their turbulent relationship, Kathleen still believes in her son and keeps a close eye on his career. In one of the book’s most endearing anecdotes, she calls him up one day and asks him if he’s read any good books lately. He replies that he has, but then he adds, “Uh, maybe not under your favorite author.” She says, “That’s okay, it’s not like I have all the answers either.”

Now that we’ve gotten the politics out of the way, let’s dive into Entertainment News.

Entertainment News

As we mentioned, this week we’re hearing from Robert Pattinson. Since his youth, he’s been a high-profile figure in the entertainment world, acting in a number of films and television shows, both in the UK and in America. He’s even been the subject of several books, with the most recent one, Last Love Letters From Amitabh Bachchan To His Ex-Wife, published in 2019. As you might imagine, we have some pretty big things to cover, so let’s get right into it.

Most Recent Projects

Since turning 30, Pattinson hasn’t appeared in many prominent films, though he has starred in a number of arty and unusual projects, such as Kataomoi, which was released in 2016 and followed a group of high school friends as they navigate adulthood. In 2018, he had a supporting role in Wes Anderson’s latest film, Isle Of Dogs, which is based on the 1982 animated film of the same name. The following year, he co-starred in the comedy series, Night School, with Susan Sarandon and Kevin Dillon. In 2020, he appeared in the spy film, The Spy Who Dumped Me, as well as the comedy series, Landlord, with Ben Mendelsohn and Olivia Colman. In 2020 alone, he has six feature films and five TV series scheduled for release.

Upcoming Projects

In 2021, Pattinson will be seen in six separate features. His next film, Post-Pandemic, will premiere at the Sheffield International Film Festival in April — check out the trailer below.

In the meantime, he’s working on his next book, which he says will be “really interesting.” It’s set to be published in October 2021 by Hamish Hamilton.

Recent Issues

In the past year or so, rumors of Pattinson’s drug addiction and mental health problems have resurfaced in the media. While he’s never been forthcoming about his personal life, he’s always been very open about his love for film and fashion. In 2018, he admitted that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be a father and that he’d “rather be single” than get married. Since then, he’s attended several engagements and weddings, including the lavish ceremony he recently held in England.
