There is more than one relationship story that could have been told on October 30th, 2017. That was the day US Weekly reported that Kristen Stewart had secretly married her lover, Robert Pattinson. Just one day earlier, the couple had told Entertainment Tonight that they were “taking a break” from their relationship.

The couple’s whirlwind romance and ensuing marriage shocked the world, particularly in light of Stewart’s previous engagement to Irish actor, James Stewart. Since then, the pair have been open about their troubles, and it seems like they may actually mean it this time around. In fact, their relationship has been so public that it’s spawned its very own meme, with fans tweeting about their “Kristenster” and “Robsten” moments. Amidst all of this, Hollywood has also been forced to reckon with questions about what the future of its biggest stars really looks like.

Signs of Decline?

Before the latest news that Stewart is expecting their first child with Pattinson, the 35-year-old actress had enjoyed a pretty successful career. She earned three Golden Globe nominations and won two, as well as an Oscar nomination, for her role in 2011 film, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.”

Stewart also received critical acclaim for her role in Stephen King adaptation, “It,” in 2017. That same year, she was nominated for a WGCITA Award for Best Actress in a TV movie or miniseries for her performance in the Netflix drama, “Atypical.”

While Stewart appeared to be enjoying a good run, it seems that her career may have been in decline. Since announcing her pregnancy in January 2018, Stewart has only released a handful of tweets, and has seemingly taken a step back from her previous public engagements. She hasn’t made any appearances at award ceremonies or film festivals, and the only work that she’s been spotted at recently is the occasional Instagram post or a Vanity Fair photoshoot.

While Stewart has kept a low public profile, her private life has apparently been anything but quiet. The Ashley Madison leak revealed that Stewart was actively looking to meet other men for sex while she was on her honeymoon with Pattinson. The actress later addressed the cheating rumors, and said that the leaked documents “were fabricated.” Nevertheless, it raised questions about the relationship, and whether or not Stewart sees herself as a traditional wife and mother.

More Than Meets The Eye

Just like Stewart, Pattinson is also used to drawing praise for his work. The 32-year-old actor earned critical acclaim for his role in Stephen King adaption, “It,” and was nominated for the prestigious Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. He has since gone on to appear in the likes of “Sicario,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” and “The Batman,” among others. In 2017, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Pattinson has also been nominated for a SAG Award for Best Actor and won a BAFTA for Best Actor in 2018 for his role in “The Lost City.” He’s also racked up nine noms for the Golden Globes, and won in 2015, for his role in “The Walking Dead” TV series. Not bad for a man who once said that he had “no idea” what a romantic relationship even looked like.

The pair first sparked public interest when they were spotted on a train together in September 2016. That was around the same time that Stewart was filming “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” and Pattinson was wrapping up filming of “X-Men: Apocalypse.” Since then, they’ve been pretty open about their romance, and recently, they’ve tried to downplay their celebrity, by acting normal in public. Whether or not this is just a publicity stunt remains to be seen.

What’s Next?

With or without the help of a publicist, Stewart and Pattinson will soon be faced with important decisions. They have a child to consider, and it’s unknown how much time they have left together. At this point, it’s also unclear what their relationship will look like moving forward. Will they stay together? Will they break up? What will their priorities be? For now, all we know is that they’re dealing with some stuff, and that they’re taking the time to work through it. Whatever happens, we wish them the best.
