If you’re a fan of Robert Pattinson, then you’ll most likely love the new film ‘Sorcerer’s Stone.’ The British actor is superb in the role of Revson. A modern-day sorcerer who is trying to take over the world, he uses the Internet to recruit an Army of the Damned to do his bidding. The movie is steeped in mysticism, with its main antagonist wearing a magical cloak that allows him to change his appearance at will. And, of course, there’s the obligatory love interest in the form of Lena Headey’s character. Their romance is sweet and passionate, but it’s nothing more than a comedic relief from the chaos that ensues in the film. Even if you’re not a huge fan of Robert Pattinson, this movie still has a lot to offer. It’s a dark comedy that will have you chuckling with glee. Or, at least, you’ll have some good memories of an uncomfortable night. Just make sure you’re aware of the time change. It currently plays in theaters, but it’ll be available to own on DVD in a few days. So, if you’re looking for a new movie to stream or to download, then consider ‘Sorcerer’s Stone.’ It’ll be out soon, so be sure to catch it while you can.
An Unconventional Plot
For those who have seen the trailer, expect ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’ to follow a fairly conventional plot. A wealthy businessman, played by Michael Caine, befriends a young street magician who teaches him a few tricks. When the man’s ex-wife shows up and threatens to expose their relationship, he hires the young magician to kill her. Instead, the magician falls in love with the wealthy man’s daughter and helps him fight off the ex-wife’s henchmen. After a rocky start, the young magician eventually befriends the entire family and helps out with their Christmas charity. The film ends with the couple and the businessman reconciling, while the ex-wife is still searching for her killers. It’s a pretty simple story, but it’s been told a million times over. And, for the most part, it works. You’ll probably recognize a lot of the scenes from other films. That’s what makes this story so easy for the filmmakers to adapt. Plus, the special effects are pretty incredible. You’ll see what I mean when you see the movie. It’s as if the filmmakers unlocked the secret to making computers look like magic. Or, at least, computer-generated imagery that is as good as real magic. They achieve this through a combination of cutting-edge technology and practical effects. Don’t expect any realistic action sequences, though. This is a comedy, after all. So, even if you’re familiar with the story, you’ll still get to see some magical scenes that will delight you. And, if you’re not, then you’ll still get to see the funny side of a sorcerer. You might even find it charming. Or, at least, you’ll get to see a lot of jokes about the subject matter. I won’t spoil it for you, but just remember that this is a very different kind of film. That’s what the director, Christopher Nolan, had to say about it. He also praised the performances of the cast, especially that of the young actor, Tom Hardy. The story ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’ is based on the graphic novel ‘The Wizard’ by John Connolly. And, even if you haven’t read the book, you’ll know exactly what kind of story it is. It’s a story that had been done to death. So much so that, when Nolan heard about it, he immediately thought of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character from the movie ‘The Wolf of Wall Street.’ That’s the kind of friend he is. Even when other filmmakers were trying to cash in on this popular story, Nolan already had his sights set on a new project. And, like DiCaprio, who also turned down an offer to star in a movie adaptation of ‘The Wizard,’ Hardy wanted to play the part of Revson. He was also quoted as saying, “‘Sorcerer’s’ is a story that needs to be told with as much sincerity as possible, as it has been incorrectly portrayed in films many times before. So if the material speaks to you, then I would encourage you to give it a go. Especially as it is something different and refreshingly new.” So, if you’re looking for an unconventional romance, or if you just want to see some amazing special effects, then you should enjoy ‘Sorcerer’s Stone.’ As I said, it’s a story that is as old as time itself, but it’s been told in a way that is new and interesting. For me, personally, I found it an entertaining and thought-provoking experience. It has a little bit of everything, from romance to action to mysticism. If you’re interested in any of those topics, then I would recommend that you check out ‘Sorcerer’s Stone.’ I’m not so sure that it’s the best thing that Christopher Nolan has ever directed. But, to his credit, he did a really good job with it. And, for me, it was a welcome change of pace from all of his other films. Especially after the massive success of ‘The Dark Knight.’ That was the first time that I’d seen him draw on a more light-hearted note. And, at least, we can all agree that it was a wise move.
