Everyone has a hobby. For some, it’s collecting shoes or watches – something that sparks the imagination and fills a hole in the wallet. For others, it’s cooking: they enjoy testing out recipes and creating new dishes. Still others prefer to travel the world or indulge in a leisure activity such as reading or playing sports. But what if your hobby is putting on fake glasses so you can resemble someone famous?

The answer may surprise you. According to legend, Robert Pattinson (born in 1981) has been wearing glasses since the age of three. And while he’s never really been photographed without them, it seems that the more recent images are the ones that show him with the trendy frames. This has led some to speculate that he’s simply playing the part of a nerf-herder.

Why Do You Need to Wear Fake Glasses?

It’s not entirely clear why Robert wears glasses. In interviews, he’s stated that they help him focus, as well as protect his eyes from the sun. However, he seems to prefer a lifestyle that doesn’t rely on technology, so it’s likely he doesn’t actually need the help of lenses to see clearly. On the other hand, many artists and designers believe that he wears them simply to remind everyone that he’s pretending to be someone else. Whether this is true or not, it’s an interesting theory and one that makes perfect sense.

Which Celebrities Wear Glasses?

It would be a bit of a head scratcher if Robert Pattinson wasn’t the most famous fan of glasses we know of. He’s worn them to portray both Christian Grey and Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” series, among others. Since then, he’s become somewhat of a glasses icon, showing off his trendy frames with every appearance. Though he doesn’t need the help of lenses to see clearly, many have speculated that he may be pretending to be someone he’s not in order to make a point.

It’s not only the celebrities that wear glasses. A huge range of famous faces can be seen wearing frames on a daily basis, from Kate Moss and Alexa Chung to Elle MacLeman and Grace Kelly. It’s an interesting phenomenon and one that seems to have stemmed from a fun fact about each celebrity: they all need to wear glasses to complete a certain outfit!

Do Designers Get In on the Act Too?

We don’t usually think of designers when it comes to celebrities wearing glasses, but it seems that they’ve joined the party too. Ralph Lauren was spotted wearing some expensive-looking frames earlier this year, and Burberry has released a whole line of luxury glasses that are actually designed to look like traditionalist spectacles. It’s not just luxury brands either: the affordable Chinese company MOU started designing its popular Flying Fish brand of sunglasses in 2009, and they look uncannily like the real deal.

There are even rumors that Louis Vuitton is working on an entire luxury eyewear collection, which will be released in 2018. Whether or not this is true, it’s clear that a lot of famous faces wear glasses and that they’re definitely here to stay.

As for Robert Pattinson, will he keep on pretending? It’s not yet clear how long he’ll keep on playing the part of a nerd, but it seems that he enjoys the thrill of the occasional Internet hunt more than he lets on. More and more people are falling for this trendy look, which means that sooner or later, he’ll have to make a choice: continue wearing glasses and enjoy the popularity, or take them off and risk being labeled the true Christian Grey instead.
