While it has been a while since we have heard from Robert Pattinson, the talented English actor has kept us all entertained with his witty humor and saucy tweets. Now that he is back in the spotlight, people are wondering, “Has Batman failed?” What does the future hold for the Caped Crusader?
The Good
Despite what happens in the movies, Batman has never been smarter or more innovative than he is right now. With every new piece of technology and scientific advancement, he pushes the boundaries of traditional super storytelling and thrills fans with his brilliance.
The Dark Knight has never been more popular or relevant than he is now. Thanks to his excellent work in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, the Caped Crusader is considered one of the greatest comic book characters of all time.
However, even the greatest stories need a twist to remain relevant. Like many other superheroes, Batman has seen his popularity dwindle over the years as films and TV shows become more and more alike. Despite this, Nolan’s groundbreaking work in adapting Batman for the big screen has kept the character fresh and exciting.
The Bad
“Batman” does not sound like a dirty word. It does not even sound like a brand name. But for many years now, the name has been synonymous with “failure” and “trash.” I know what you are thinking: Here we go again. But hear me out. It’s not like that at all. It’s just that everything about Batman is bad. When you Google his name, you will get a lot of negative results mixed in with all the good reviews.
Despite living up to his name, Batman is not actually very successful. In fact, he is one of the least popular superheroes among fans. Sure, he has many allies, but in the grand scheme of things, the Dark Knight rarely wins the day. Sometimes, he just gets his butt kicked.
While it is true that Batman has saved the day more than a few times, one of the reasons for his failure to appeal to mainstream audiences is his very identity. To put it simply, Batman is an asshole. And guess what? Even assholes have friends. Sure, they may be jerks who double-cross them, but at least they are loyal. Most people do not like assholes, and that is why Batman rarely makes any real connections with the citizens of Gotham.
The Ugly
If there is one thing that can be said about Batman, it’s that he is a lot of fun to hate. And yes, that is intended to be a compliment.
While the other heroes on this list tried to do good, Batman’s entire existence is built on cheating and being a jerk. Yes, he tried to help people in the beginning, but he quickly discovered that playing by the rules does not always pay off. And as much as he may try to deny it, Batman is not a good person. Of course, he fights for what is right, but he always does it in his own twisted way. He believes in justice, but his methods are often brutal and immoral. And when push comes to shove, the Dark Knight will cut a corner whenever he has to.
To be quite honest, Batman is not meant to be liked. He is meant to be feared. Which makes him even more relevant now than ever before. He will always have a place in the hearts of millions, but he will never be able to shake the feelings of everyone else in Gotham. It is this dichotomy that makes Batman so fascinating.
So, Has Batman Failed?
When you boil it all down, the answer is a definitive no. Even though Batman has failed in the sense that he is not very successful, he has not failed as a character. He has changed, adapted, and evolved with the times. And as much as people may not like him, they can still find something they love about the Dark Knight. That is what makes him such an excellent metaphor for life in general.
Of course, this is just a superficial analysis. There are many shades of gray in between black and white. And it seems that, at least for now, Batman is not concerned with being liked. He is more focused on being remembered as one of the greatest characters of all time. If that means being a jerk, so be it.
