Once you’ve starred in the most popular movie of all time, it’s hard to keep a low profile! On the contrary, even the most unlikely celebrity usually manages to make the press take note of their existence. This is the case with actor Robert Pattinson, best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga. Since then, the former teen idol has seemingly vanished from the public eye and decided to stay away from the cameras – at least for now.

While the news media continues to speculate regarding the reasons behind Pattinson’s reclusive nature and private life, fans can rejoice that the actor has finally opened up his home to the public. Located in Los Angeles, California, the house is now open to visitors and holds a special place in the hearts of fans worldwide. The following information is useful for those interested in visiting this historical monument and learning more about Robert Pattinson and his Hollywood years.

The 54-room mansion, designed by architect William Wittet, was built in 1939 and originally belonged to Howard Hughes. The American aviation tycoon bought the residence in 1937 for $75,000 and spent another $150,000 renovating it. After his death in 1970, the mansion passed to his granddaughter and eventual heir, sheiress Veronica Leisure. In 1980, Veronica’s mother, Aline, married into the Russian Imperial family and the following year the estate was transferred to the Grand Duchess Anastasia. In 1999, the palace was bought by tech entrepreneur and art collector Robert Pattinson for £40 million and later that year it was featured in the Channel 4 documentary, The House of Gucci.

The mansion is located just off Sunset Boulevard in the Bel-Air district of Los Angeles. Due to its size and fame, it has become something of a local landmark and is visible for miles around. The property features an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by a patio and tropical foliage. The formal garden is adjacent to a nine-hole golf course with a swimming pool and tennis courts. To the rear of the main house are a series of guesthouses, each one holding its own private pool. These structures were used as the inspiration for Los Angeles’ most luxurious hotels, such as the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Mondrian Hotel.

Like other historical monuments, Pattinson’s house was carefully curated by design experts to represent a taste of the golden Hollywood era. It features a mix of styles, featuring Neoclassical, Italian Renaissance, and French influences.

The main building is made up of four courtyards, or foyers, with a common area in the center. The largest of the four is the Grand Ballroom, which is decorated in a style evocative of a Hollywood film set. This room was originally used for gatherings and parties and still holds its original chandelier, which is lighted at night for an enchanting effect.

Furniture And Paintings

The ballroom is flanked by terraces with Corinthian columns and features an ornamental fountain with a statue of Hercules. The columns are made of Egyptian marble and were brought from Italy in the 1950s. A fire destroyed the majority of the furnishings in the house in 2007 but everything was restored to its original glory. Among the pieces of furniture that remained were a set of French Provincial dining tables and six-seater dining chairs, upholstered in a floral fabric and featuring turned wooden pedestals.

The residence also features paintings by notable artists, including a self-portrait by Vincent Van Gogh set in an early morning mist. Other pieces of noteworthy artwork include Matisse’s Green Apple, Picasso’s Guernica, and Warhol’s Silver Star.

A formal dining room is located at the entrance to the main house and features an 18th-century French armchair, designed by Georges Louis and used as decoration. It is surrounded by an Aubusson tapestry and has views of the garden. The room was used for informal entertaining and still holds its original chandelier. In a similar manner, the Japanese Room is decorated with a trompe-l’œil and features a kimono-clad Marilyn Monroe painted on the ceiling and wallpaper made of butterflies and dragonflies, as seen in the 1960s film, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. A walk-in closet and laundry room are also located in this area.

The master bedroom, located on the upper level, is an expansive space with a terrace, pool, and garden. The room was used by Howard Hughes for card games and featured a six-sided game table, made of solid oak and used by the entrepreneur for Monte Carlo evenings. A portrait of Hughes by Natalia Makarova remains on the wall, while a dressing table with an oval mirror and Louis XV chest are displayed in front of the fireplace.

Other bedrooms on this level include a pool room with a built-in Jacuzzi, a guestroom, and a study. The upper floor, or attic, is home to a chapel, a gallery, and a ballroom, originally constructed for the 1929 world’s fair and designed by Wallace Neff. The stucco-finished structure features arabesque decoration and a blue tile mansard roof.

The former movie star is most famous for his roles in the Twilight Saga and its sequel, New Moon. He also starred in the films The Rover, What’s Your Number?, and The Lost Symbol. Pattinson has also been seen on television in the role of Sherlock Holmes and owns a collection of vintage Sherlock Holmes memorabilia, including a deerstalker hat and pipe. He is the patron of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London and New York City and holds an honorary membership in the Royal Society of Surgeons.

Although best known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, Pattinson has also stated that he is a big fan of Sherlock creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In 2012, he published a book of literary criticism, Travels with My Lute, which was written in the style of Arthur Conan Doyle’s popular mystery stories.

Pattinson has never been one to shy away from publicity and has frequently been photographed visiting iconic locations around the world. He has also spoken openly about his disdain for social media and has taken steps to ensure that his privacy is protected. To date, he has not granted any interviews regarding personal matters and has steadfastly refused to do so. Nevertheless, despite his apparent wish to keep a low profile, the actor has maintained a massive social media presence and continues to be one of the most followed individuals on the platforms.

Tourists tend to flock to places that are famous for a reason and, although the public may now be able to wander around the exterior of the house, it remains off-limits to outsiders. The closest that the general public can get to this famous address is from the outside looking in, through the gates which are always open to visitors.
