While the world waits for Pattinson to make his movie comeback, the actor is keeping busy with stunt work. He recently filmed a hot-dog eating contest in Thailand, and it was so much fun to watch. According to TMZ, he beat the crap out of three of the country’s most talented food artists in one sitting. The actor chowed down 25 hot dogs in 10 minutes. He managed to pull off the stunt without vomiting, which is more than you can say for some of the folks competing with him. The way he hacked away at those dang hot dogs was nothing short of amazing. Let’s take a look:
The Preparations
Pattinson wasn’t just showing up to the fight cold-turkey. The ‘Cosmopolis’ actor had been downing dog meat for days in order to get into shape. He reportedly spent a week training with a dietician and personal trainer in preparation for the contest. It’s no secret that the ‘Twilight’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ starlet is passionate about fitness, and she even has a workout ritual she performs every day:
- In the morning, she does strength training for 45 minutes
- Then, she cools down with some yoga
- After that, she steps out for lunch, where she will pick up a chicken salad sandwich and chips
- She returns to the gym for another 45-minute workout, followed by a quick trip to the food court for dinner
It’s clear that a lot of preparation went into this contest. The outcome was undoubtedly going to be one of the most interesting events of 2018. But it wasn’t only about the contest. The whole thing was heavily publicized by the Thai media, and fans had the chance to get up close and personal with the gorgeous actor. It was like having Meryl Streep and Kevin Spacey pop the question at the end of ‘The House of Gucci’. Except, you know, better:
- Spacey served as a judge for the event, while Streep and Gucci founder Gucci were present for the proposal
- Pattinson proposed to the love of his life FKA Twigs, who is also a stylist and fashion influencer
- The wedding will take place in May 2019, with an elaborate reception at the Chateau De La Mer in Versailles
The Contest And Its Outcome
The actual contest was held at the Siam Planetraider in Thailand. It was a fight to the death, with cash prizes and comical consequences for the winner. A total of 12 hot dog vendors took part in the competition. They were divided into two groups of six, and each group had their own ring. The fights were brutal. While some were content to bite and claw, Pattinson went the extra mile. He bit off more than he could chew, so to speak. He threw down the gauntlet, and then proceeded to eat his competitors like a boss.
Pattinson devoured those hot dogs like a jungle animal would attack its prey. He demolished all six dogs in his first round of combat. He then returned to the ring and ate four more competitors in a row. When he returned for a fifth round, he was accompanied by four men in bear costumes, which is the equivalent of a ‘death squad’ in Thailand. He slaughtered them all, too. This is one competition that I’m sure he’ll never forget. It’s quite a feat to eat that many hot dogs in such a short amount of time. The whole thing was recorded on video, and it’s already racked up more than 500,000 views on TikTok. Let’s just say that Robert Pattinson is a man of many talents. This isn’t the first time that he’s demonstrated his prowess in the kitchen, either. Back in 2014, he showed the world that he is indeed a creature of habit, by cooking the same exact meal for his boyfriend Justin Timberlake. The two-time Academy Award winner even went as far as to post a picture of the meal on Instagram. Here’s what it looked like:
- It was served in a ‘BFF’ themed restaurant in Milan, Italy
- The fries were shaped like diamonds, and the burger was made out of metal
- The only thing missing was the ‘Gandalf’s face’ on the milkshake
That was then, this is now. The world is a different place, and Timberlake and Pattinson have gone their separate ways. But, in all seriousness, let’s get back to the present. While we’re glad that Pattinson is doing well, it would be great to have him back on the big screen. He’s still got plenty to offer, and the world seems to agree. He was just nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘Twilight Saga: Eclipse’. Let’s hope that he finally gets to shine on the big screen soon.
