Just when you thought the ‘Twilight Saga’ had finished, here comes ‘Good Golly Miss Moss!’, a new addition to the ever-evolving saga. The cast of ‘Good Golly’ is now expanding beyond Edward and Bella, and we have our first look at some of the characters in this new spin-off series.

Set in the 1920s, ‘Good Golly’ centers around a group of friends who gather together for a Christmas party. One of these friends is a wealthy English heiress named Lettie MacLeman (played by ‘Twilight’ actress Elle MacLeman) who invites the group of friends to her country manor for the holiday. Unfortunately for Lettie, her family’s trusty butler Alfred (played by John Gilbert) has other plans for the holiday…

The series premieres November 3 on the FOX network.

More ‘Twilight’ Characters in ‘Good Golly’

We’ve always had a soft spot for the quirky, off-kilter characters that ‘Twilight’ creator Stephenie Meyer introduced us to in her best-selling novels. So it should come as no great surprise that many of these quirky characters have found their way into ‘Good Golly’,’ including Lettie’s other sister Estelle, played by ‘Orange Is The New Black’s’ Laura Montoya. We also get to see more of Lettie’s brothers, Charlie and Percy. The latter is portrayed by an unrecognizable Benedict Cumberbatch (‘Sherlock’, ‘The Hobbit’, ‘Warwick’) in one of the most unlikely guises we’ve ever seen. We’re not really sure if Cumberbatch’s character is supposed to be an alchemist or a wizard, but he certainly doesn’t behave like your average British uncle at Christmas party.

A Change in Direction for ‘Twilight’

One of the most interesting aspects of ‘Good Golly’ is how it diverges from the norm for the ‘Twilight’ series. While Bella and Edward’s adventures continued into the new century, with ‘Breaking Dawn’ Part I being released in 2014, the world of ‘Twilight’ has changed significantly in the interim. The series first began in a more traditional fantasy setting, with many medieval trappings. Then, in 2006, it shifted to a contemporary New York City, and even more recently, we’ve seen it tackle issues of climate change and environmental activism.

With the rise in popularity of ‘Twilight’ came many imitators. Some of these imitations have stuck with the general formula of fantasy adventure, but several have completely ignored the source material and tried to do new things. ‘Good Golly’ is clearly an example of the former. With its period setting, it is entirely possible that ‘Good Golly’ will succumb to the popularity of its source material and wind up as a straight-up ‘Twilight’ knockoff. However, for now, at least, it’s a nice enough diversion and fits into the FOX network’s whimsical ‘Golden Age of Television’ schedule perfectly.

Robert Pattinson’s Career Highlight

It’s fair to say that 2018 was a huge year for Pattinson, who starred in two of the biggest movies of the year: ‘Twilight’ (2017) and ‘Good Golly’ (2018). The year prior to these two massive hits, Pattinson almost pulled off a career highlight in obscurity: he starred in the critically-acclaimed indie ‘Wonder’ (2017), and then followed it up with an acclaimed turn in one of the most iconic superhero movies of all time: ‘Spiderman’ (2018). On top of all of this, Pattinson landed a cameo in the Marvel blockbuster ‘Black Widow’ (2018), which was directed by his good friend and ‘Twilight’ co-star, Taika Waititi. It’s fair to say that 2018 was a landmark year for Pattinson’s career.

Lettie’s New Country Manor

‘Twilight’ was a massive hit, both critically and commercially, and it brought in a massive following. Many of the elements that made it so popular, from its original setting to its quirky characters, have since made their way into modern day franchises. With the release of ‘Good Golly’ on the horizon, it will be interesting to see if these newer iterations can match the original trilogy’s success.
