The 29-year-old British actor is currently in Los Angeles promoting his new movie, Good Time. While on the red carpet, he spoke to Variety about his recent years and the changes he’s experienced.

Dressed to Impress

Pattinson started the conversation by talking about how he likes to dress to impress. The English actor often chooses unique and innovative outfits that express his style. One of his most recent bold choices was a dress made entirely out of stamps. He also revealed that he has a large collection of hats which he often wears to add an extra layer to his looks.

“I’m always trying to think of different ways to express myself through my dress code. I think that’s what makes me unique,” he said.

Pattinson has worn a number of quirky and unusual ensembles while promoting his movies in LA. The most notable outfit is a dress made entirely out of stamps. He’s been seen wearing the outfit twice – once for the premiere of his new movie, Good Time, and then again at Elton John’s wedding. The outfit pays homage to John, whose music has been featured in many of Pattinson’s films. While wearing the iconic white suit, the actor completed the outfit with a white rose in the lapel. The look is quintessential Pattinson – refined yet quirky.

Shifting Lifestyle

Pattinson has been in LA for a number of years now. He moved out there in 2012 to take on the role of Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the erotic novel, 50 Shades of Grey. Since then, he’s been working steadily and has become a well-known face on the streets of Los Angeles. Even people who don’t usually wear glasses tend to wear them when they see him coming. The actor has also been making fairly regular appearances on social media, especially TikTok, posting about his travels, food, and movie choices.

In Good Time, Pattinson plays Robert Fitzgerald, a man who leaves his home in New York to hitchhike across country to L.A. In the course of the trip, he encounters a group of criminals led by Jack Malik (Danny McBride). The group kidnaps and holds Fitzgerald hostage at gunpoint, demanding a ransom from his wealthy family. It’s a fairly traditional gangster movie with a bizarre twist: the villains are portrayed by renowned comedians John Cleese, Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, and more. Malik is played by The Weekend’s Marc Maron. The cast also includes Michael Sheen, Jamey Sheridan, and Zoe Kazan. Additionally, the movie is directed by Edward Norton from a script by Billy Corgan.

New York to L.A. In A Day

Pattinson’s life in LA isn’t entirely glamorous. Since arriving, he’s had to adapt to the city – and he’s not exactly sure how he’ll fit in all of a sudden. He told Variety:

“When I first got there I was kind of struggling. I didn’t really know anybody and I wasn’t sure what was going on. I figured out how to dress appropriately and figure out the lingo and stuff like that. It was challenging but I like that. I like that it made me grow as a person, I guess. You never know what’s going to happen when you move to a new place. You can end up in a situation where you have to fight for your place in the world,” he said.

Style Icon

Pattinson seems to have found a home in LA. He’s well-known for his versatility and willingness to experiment with new styles and outfits. While he acknowledged that the city can be challenging, he told Variety that he likes it:

“I like LA. It’s always something different. There’s never a day in LA that isn’t fun, at least. There are some challenges – traffic is a pain, and it’s expensive to drive. But other than that it’s just great,” he said. “You get to try a lot of new things. There are a lot of opportunities out there.”

Style Icon

While in LA, we got the chance to speak with Pattinson about his unique sense of style. Even though he’s been there for a while now, he still gets inspired by the city, especially when it comes to fashion. He told us:

“I think LA has a very unique and stunning fashion scene. You get to try a lot of different styles and a lot of different ways of dressing and I think that’s what makes it so interesting. In New York, when I moved there, I felt very intimidated. I felt like I didn’t really fit in with the fashion world, but here I feel like I can.”

The British actor’s style can be somewhat eclectic, drawing influence from a variety of sources. He often takes inspiration from unlikely places. For example, he said that he gets a lot of his style inspiration from G.I. Joe, a famous American-Dutch toy brand that was originally created during World War II.

“I like old things. I like old cars and guns. That’s always been a bit of a theme in my movies. So it makes sense that I’d be attracted to that,” he said. “But also, a lot of my fashion choices come from unusual places. Like G.I. Joe – I like the uniforms they designed during World War II, so when I saw that, I thought it would be cool to try and create something similar.”

Gangster-Inspired Wardrobe

Pattinson isn’t just a one-trick pony when it comes to fashion. In Good Time, he wears a range of stylish attire, from classic suits to vintage military uniforms. He said that he chose the former, in part, because they make him look like a “real badass.” In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, he said that part of what attracted him to the role was the fact that he’d get to wear a lot of cool clothes. He continued:

“I love a good suit and a good tie and a good classic car. So it’d be cool to be able to do that. But I think that’s what makes me unique. In terms of the military gear, that was kind of a theme in my last movie, The Rover. So it’s something that I’m really enjoying as well.”

Music Enthusiasts

Pattinson has been a committed music fan for most of his life. His parents are both music lovers, which undoubtedly had a significant impact on his personality. He told Variety that music is a part of his life and it helps him to express himself. He continued:

“I think it’s a great way to express yourself and be creative. It can help you to communicate with people and it can help you to feel something. Sometimes I’ll listen to music when I’m driving and it makes me feel like I’m in a different world. It’s an interesting way to spend time.”

Pattinson is a self-professed music enthusiast and has been known to score himself rare records. He also collects a lot of vinyl and buys a lot of music. He told Variety:

“I’ll be browsing Twitter or TikTok and I’ll see somebody post about a band I don’t know and I’ll be like, ‘Oh, really? I love that band.’ So I’ll click on the link and it’ll take me to their page on Tidal. Then I’ll either follow them or go back and follow the person who posted about them in the first place. So I’ll see all of this going on while I’m still at home and it’s really fun.”

Varying Influences

Pattinson is a multitalented actor and musician. Apart from styling and fashion, he also enjoys acting. Most notably, he portrayed the main character, Galen, in the 2015 movie adaptation of the cult novel The Luxe. Galen was a dandy who wore fabulous clothing and had a way with words that made women swoon. At the time of shooting, he’d just finished filming The Rover with De Niro, which was well-received and earned him some good reviews. He said about playing the part:

“It’s interesting because there are so many characters in that book. So you get to play multiple roles and it’s great because you get to show a different side to the character. He’s such an amazing writer, such a unique voice. I thought it would be fun to be able to play with words a little bit and be someone other than myself,” he said.
