Rumors have been swirling for a while now about a potential love connection between Robert Pattinson and Harry Potter. The Twilight star began dating the Great Britain native several months ago and has since been very active on social media. In fact, Pattinson has tweeted more than once about his excitement for the upcoming release of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child novel in July.

The two young Hollywood celebrities have certainly sparked a lot of interest, and not just because they’re romantically linked. Potter fans have long been obsessed with the Twilight star, and it seems that the feeling is mutual. It was recently revealed that Pattinson has been posting a lot of cryptic messages on social media in an attempt to keep the interest of his growing legion of fans. Unfortunately, because of the nature of the internet, the attention was soon co-opted by haters and trolls who had plenty to say about the relationship. Has there really been a connection between Pattinson and Potter? Let’s take a closer look.

Potter Is On The Rise

While the Twilight franchise has been hugely successful, creating a media frenzy whenever a new installment is released, it’s been Harry Potter that’s been responsible for significantly rising the profile of the young Hogwarts student. In fact, prior to his stint in Hollywood, Pattinson was best known as the child actor who played Harry Potter in five films. The Harry Potter series alone has sold more than 450 million books worldwide and been translated into more than 50 languages.

Pattinson’s filmography includes Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2, and the upcoming prequel, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Not bad for someone who began their acting career at the age of four. The success of Potter has led to multiple offers from Hollywood studios, which Pattinson has yet to turn down. He’s even been offered the role of James Bond several times (not that he’s ever said no to an opportunity to play a role, just so you know).

Backed by Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling, the franchise continues to flourish, with the latest installment, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child becoming one of the biggest books of all time not just in the Potter universe but also in general. The latest novel in the series is currently the No. 1 bestseller on both the Amazon Kindle and the NOOK Books apps. Additionally, a stage version of the story will premiere in London this summer, with additional performances slated for 2020.

Pattinson’s Upcoming Role

Even thought Pattinson is arguably best known for his role as Harry Potter, he’s recently been working hard to prove his versatility and draw attention away from the Potter series. He recently wrapped filming on the upcoming Woody Allen film, A Rainy Day in New York, and is also set to begin filming the highly anticipated sci-fi thriller, Alien Covenant, later this year.

While he’s primarily known as a teen heartthrob, Pattinson has always been keen to show off his ability to act and direct. He made his directorial debut with the 2014 short film, Damned, and later that year he helmed the biopic, The Lost Honour of Christopher Hitchens. This year, Pattinson will star in the horror flick, The Lure as well as the romantic comedy, What Do you mean, He’s Not Coming?

A Passion For Books

It’s been said that Hollywood is a tough place to be a literary enthusiast, but it seems that Pattinson has found a home at the Golden Globes. Not only has he been nominated for several awards for his contributions to the Twilight films, but it was also revealed in 2019 that he is an avid reader. In fact, he’s often found reading on the couch with a laptop in one hand and a book in the other. Additionally, he’s opened up about his love of words and how they’ve motivated him throughout his career. He tweeted:

“I’ve always had a passion for words. They inspire me, give me strength, and make me feel more connected to the world. I’ve learned so much from reading that I can’t express in any other way. Words are powerful. If you haven’t read a book you should. If you’ve never truly listened to a poem, you should do so. Words might just save your life.”

Rowling’s Lively Twitter Feed

The Harry Potter series has always been prolific on social media, with J.K. Rowling contributing lengthy chapters to both the Potter and Fantastic Beasts worlds on her personal Twitter account. It was only a matter of time before fans turned to social media to express their excitement about a potential Robert Pattinson – Harry Potter link. Here’s the account’s recent activity, which you can find a detailed analysis of on Twitter itself:

  • Rowling recently took to Twitter to react to the news of an upcoming meeting between King George and President Trump on the North Sea Coast. King George is a fictitious character from the Harry Potter world, while Trump is a real life president who’s been a consistent Twitter user since 2016. The interaction provided a unique insight into the writer’s mind, with Rowling revealing she came up with the idea after reading the following quote by Trump: “Our relationship with [Putin] is at an all-time high. I’ve had many one-on-one meetings with him and I find him to be very bright and certainly entertaining.” King George was quick to respond, asking if she would like to be carried around in his pocket during the meeting. Of course, this was just a joke, but it doesn’t hurt to be on the receiving end of a charming remark now and then.
  • J.K. Rowling also joined in on the fun, responding to a fan’s question about if and when the next film in the Harry Potter franchise will be released with “We’re going to have to wait and see what happens with President Trump. It’s always nice to have a literary character walk into the Oval Office. This is why I keep my Twitter account active. There are so many story lines that I want to explore.”
  • Rowling has also contributed a chapter to the upcoming Young Adult novel, The Lie of the Land, by Melinda Snodgrass. The final installment in the Dark Is Rising duology will be released later this year, with pre-sale copies available now.
  • The author has also stated in the past that she’d like to see the Harry Potter series adapted for the stage. With work on the stage version of Cursed Child underway, could we finally see a live performance of one of Rowling’s most iconic works?
