Wondering what Robert Pattinson’s intentions are behind his mysterious Valentine’s Day gift to Taylor Lautner?

Well, wonder no longer. The actor’s new girlfriend has finally revealed the story behind their one-of-a-kind romance—and it’s one that will make even the coldest of hearts melt.

In an exclusive interview with E! News, Taylor’s mom, Pam, opened up about the secret romance that blossomed over the winter holidays and how she feels about their surprising engagement.

“I think it’s wonderful. I’m so happy for her,” said Pam, when asked about Taylor’s decision to propose to her longtime beau. “It’s what she wants and I think it’s a great opportunity for her to find something that feels right for her.”

What’s so special about this union? Well, not only did Robert propose to Taylor in front of a celebrity-studded audience at Disneyland—but it was their first public appearance as a couple.

And it wasn’t the only monumental moment the pair shared during the intimate evening. The 28-year-old actor also lifted the veil on Taylor’s biggest secret of all—the fact that she’s been hiding her pregnancy for the past six months.

“I’ve been hiding this from everybody,” she said, struggling to contain her emotions. “It was really hard to keep this a secret, especially from myself.”

The confession came as a major shock to Pam, who had no idea that her daughter was even considering being a mother. At the time of the interview, the happy couple had been dating for just over a month and had kept their relationship under wraps. (They originally began seeing each other during the production of Twilight, in which Taylor roles, Emily.)

“He didn’t want the world to know he was dating a pregnant woman. So I guess you could say he’s been keeping it cool,” she said in jest. (Taylor later confirmed that this was indeed the case.)

But while the world may not know about his girlfriend’s burgeoning pregnancy, Robert has certainly made it quite clear that he’s committed to the couple’s future together. And what a future it is: Not only did the Romeo (or Rosie, as Taylor calls him) ring pop the question this past Valentine’s Day, but he also bought her a $300,000 diamond, which E! News has learned is a custom-made ring that took two and a half months to craft.

“[We] had a little help,” she said, referring to the interior designer who helped her daughter pick out the perfect engagement ring. “I didn’t want to spend a fortune on something that wasn’t custom.”

After their romantic dinner at Disneyland, the pair enjoyed a glamorous night out on the town, where they were joined by Emily and some of her girlfriends for a party at Observatory Circle in Los Angeles. (The location is famous for its nighttime view of the city.)

According to Taylor, there’s another reason why she chose to propose at Disneyland. She wanted to include her son Henry, age 7, in the moment. (Henry witnessed the proposal and called his mother after the ceremony to tell her he had seen her marrying Mr. Pattinson.)

“I asked him if he wanted to propose too,” she said, “and he said yes. So I wanted to include him in the moment and have him witness it.”

The Disneyland proposal certainly won’t be the last we’ve heard of this stunning union. Not only did Robert propose to Taylor during an intimate ceremony that was just for the two of them, but it was followed by a decadent honeymoon in Italy, where they had an engagement party with close family and friends.

What’s more, the devoted couple has already started planning their wedding—which will happen five months after the Italy trip. (Taylor and Robert are both dedicated Buddhists and want to keep the date open for possible child dedications as well.)

As for what exactly inspired their romance, Taylor has said that she was initially attracted to him because of his good looks. But it wasn’t long before she discovered an inner beauty that made him even more appealing.

“He’s just so sweet and down to earth,” she said. “When I met him, I thought he was the most beautiful man I’d ever seen. And he is.”

The couple’s good looks are certainly something to behold. The Telegraph reports that Robert, 27, and Taylor, 28, are likely to be the cutest couple on the red carpet this coming Valentine’s Day. (They’ve been photographed together several times already, including a memorable scene from the movie adaptation of Twilight, where their characters’ first dates were filmed. In the movie, Taylor’s character, Emily, wears a white dress and walks through the snowy streets of Seattle holding a glowing wood sign that reads ‘Welcome to your new home.’)

According to a source who’s close to the star, Robert has had a pretty bad year. He had to put his Dog Patch Ranch, which he bought in 2009 for $12 million, on the market in December for $5.75 million. He also had to part with his vintage car collection, which he amassed over the years, for an undisclosed amount of money. (He still has a few of his favorite cars, which he drives on the red carpet when he’s promoting a new movie.)

However, with his net worth estimated at over $200 million, he still has plenty to spend on a beautiful wife and son. (His manager, Karen Steele, confirmed that his net worth is actually closer to $300 million and said his annual salary is between $25,000 and $30,000.)

Taylor made headlines in November after she and her mom, Pam, had an epic brawl on live TV, which was caught on camera and quickly went viral. (The fight, which took place at an airport baggage claim area, was over claims that Taylor had stolen a necklace from her mother. Taylor later apologized and admitted that she had indeed taken the necklace as a gift. However, she said, “I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.”)

The couple also had to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in October. Much of the couple’s L.A. home was ruined in the massive storm—including the pool area, which was destroyed—and their neighbors helped them out with some pretty amazing offers. (One of their neighbors, Bill Faught, offered to let them use his pool for the season. Another, Scottie Pippen, said he would give them his basketball tickets for the whole season.)

The story behind the couple’s feud is actually pretty sweet. Taylor’s parents had a tough time getting to know each other when she was growing up—and it was only years later, when her mother became a close friend of Pam’s, that they realized how much they had in common. (In fact, when Pam first heard that Taylor was dating Robert, she was initially worried about the ‘couple’s’ relationship. “She’s very independent and doesn’t need a man’s help,” said Pam, who noted that her daughter had been raised by a single mother since she was 10 years old.)

The feud stemmed from a simple misunderstanding—and it was all about the damn necklace. According to Pam, they had a falling out when Taylor, who was 16 at the time, stole a necklace from her and wouldn’t give it back. (Pam eventually tracked the necklace down and gave it to Taylor’s mother.)

“That was the one thing that caused everything else,” Pam said. “I told her, ‘If you love something, don’t take it. It’ll only end up causing problems.’ And she took that to heart.” (The incident was later called “a teachable moment” by Pam, who said, “I felt like an idiot for fighting about something so stupid. But for whatever reason, whenever we fought about something, she would always win.”)

Despite their differences, Taylor and Pam still remain friends and talk on the phone frequently. In fact, the actress even calls her mother on her birthday and Christmas—which is something she said she would never do when she was living on her own. (Pam noted that Taylor has never felt that she had to prove anything to her and that the two are very close.)

When asked what she would like to see happen next for her daughter, Pam laughed and said, “I would like to see her walk down the aisle to marry the man of her dreams.” (Pam and Taylor are both aware of the media circus that surrounds the teen sensation and tried to put an end to the speculation by confirming that she is, indeed, engaged.)
