The year 2014 was a milestone for Robert Pattinson. Not only did he welcome his first child, Matilda, with his fiancée, Kristen Stewart, but on April 20, he became a father for the second time, this time to a healthy baby girl, Eve. Needless to say, Pattinson’s life changed forever. It was a year of triumph and tragedy, and it’s fair to say that as things stand, it’s probably not over yet.

Family Matters

The most significant event of the year was undoubtedly the birth of Stewart’s daughter and Pattinson’s first child, Matilda. The actress and designer opened up about the exciting news in a heartfelt Instagram post, writing: “I can’t believe I get to share this with all of you. I love you all so much and I am so grateful for all your support these last few months. It was an incredible feeling carrying Matilda In My Arms. It’s such a precious moment when you hold your baby for the first time and realize how much they need you. I just want to stay connected to my child 24/7. I want to be the best mother I can be and be there for her whenever she needs me.”

Pattinson couldn’t have been happier to share the news and wrote on his own Instagram account: “Thank you @kristenstewart for making me the happiest man in the world. Words cannot express how grateful I am to you. I love you so much. Your daughter will grow up with so much love and I look forward to spoiling her rotten! xx.”

Kristen’s Engagement To Ben Affleck

The year began with a bang when Affleck proposed to Stewart on New Year’s Eve in front of a famous wedding cake. The wedding was covered by every major news publication in the world, and countless paparazzi captured the special moment. A few days later, Affleck popped the question a second time, this time in Paris, where the actress accepted his proposal and said “yes” to becoming his wife. Affleck and Stewart announced their engagement via Instagram on January 2, 2014, writing: “Happy New Year everyone! We’d like to share with you a secret that has been on our hearts for a while now… We’re engaged! We wanted to share this news with you all because we feel that you all deserve to be the first to know. Thank you for being such an important part of our lives and for being there for us when we needed you. We love you all so much.”

Pattinson was over the moon to hear the news, and couldn’t keep his happy face to himself. The actor took to Instagram to share his joy, posting a string of emojis and adding the caption: “Yes!! After a crazy year of being on the road traveling and working hard, I finally get to write the story of my life. To share with you all the emotions and the joy that this news has brought to my heart. I love you all so much. Thanks for being there for me when I needed you most. This has been the best year of my life so far… I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store.”

The Reality Of Being A Stepparent

Pattinson’s stepdaughter isn’t the only addition to the family this year. On May 12, Stewart announced that she and Affleck were expecting their second child. This made it two-for-two for the 36-year-old actor, whose first child with Stewart is Arden, 14. Their son from that union, James, 10, will also become a brother to Matilda. The new family will reside in Los Angeles.

Eve: A Healthy Baby Girl

The child actress who plays Bella in Twilight also became a mother in 2014. On April 20, 2014, it was revealed that Stewart was pregnant and due to give birth to her and Affleck’s second child. The baby’s name is Eve and she was born on May 19, 2014. Aside from being an incredibly exciting time for Stewart and Affleck, their child’s birth was also met with joy from around the world. In a touching Instagram post, Stewart revealed that she and Affleck had decided to become parents again, and showed off her baby girl, writing: “I can’t believe I get to share this with all of you. I love you all so much and I am so grateful for all your support these last few months. It was an incredible feeling carrying Eve In My Arms. It’s such a precious moment when you hold your baby for the first time and realize how much they need you. I just want to stay connected to my child 24/7. I want to be the best mother I can be and be there for her whenever she needs me.”

Pattinson couldn’t contain his excitement over the birth of his half-sister, posting several snapshots on his Instagram account, and wrote: “I’m so happy and grateful to be a part of this amazing family. I love you so much @kristenstewart.” As if the birth of their children wasn’t enough, it was revealed that the family would be expanding yet again, as in January 2014, Stewart announced that she and Affleck were trying for a third child. In August 2014, it was revealed that Stewart was pregnant with her and Affleck’s third child, confirming that the family was going to be complete at 3. Their baby’s name is Setuna and she was born in October 2014.

The Final ‘Twilight’ Film In 3D!

The most significant film of the year, aside from family updates, was David Cronenberg’s ethereal The Children of Godly Men, a new adaptation of the renowned 18th century gothic novel, The Devil in Paris. The film, which premiered in Venice in September and won the Golden Lion, follows the story of a troubled woman (Mia Wasikowska) on the hunt for her kidnapped daughter’s killer. While on the run from the law, she crosses paths with a seemingly normal guy (Jim Carrey) who, in reality, is the anti-Christ. It also stars Jude Law, Gemma Arterton, and Harvey Keitel.

Wasikowska, who received widespread acclaim for her performance, said of the film: “What I love about the script is that it is so different from any other movie I’ve ever done. David Cronenberg is one of the greatest film directors of all time, so it was wonderful to be able to work with him on a project. I think people will be pleasantly surprised by how daring and unique this film is.”

The director had this to say about the new adaptation: “The novel has had a profound impact on my work, particularly as I see it as a metaphor for addiction. For this new adaptation I wanted to explore the nature of obsession and desire, the unreason that can consume us. It’s a story about the dangerous attraction that a victim of an obsessive love feels for their object of desire.”
