You may know that Robert Pattinson is the latest heartthrob to cross over into the world of fashion. The English actor and singer has been in the news a lot recently due to his close friendship with singer-songwriter Beyoncé. The two have been spotted at various fashion events together, including the Met Gala in May.
Pattinson’s involvement in the fashion world is a natural progression for someone who has previously worked with some of the most respected designers in the industry. The actor collaborated with Tom Ford on a special collection for men and women in April, which was then shown at the Met Gala. The designer had this to say about the collection: “Robert Pattinson is a cultural icon whose work I admire. His involvement in this project was simply amazing.” Ford’s work with Pattinson is yet to be completed, but it’s expected to be revealed in the coming months.
The collaboration between Ford and Pattinson is just one of many exciting fashion projects the pair have lined up. We take a look at some of their previous collaborations and how they have influenced fashion.
Tom Ford
It’s fair to say that Ford has been very busy the past few years. He designed the costumes for the Oscars this year and previously dressed both Michael and George Cossette, as well as Marion Cotillard. The designer has also designed outfits for the Met Gala and the Golden Globe Awards. Aside from his professional work, Ford has also designed items for the queen, including a dress worn by her when she welcomed the president of the United States to the UK in 2018.
The English designer is a master of tailoring and pattern matching, often using the same exact fabrics for multiple looks. This consistency enhances the overall look and feel of his clothing. Ford’s designs are very minimal and allow the fabrics he chooses to shine through. This approach has made him a firm favourite amongst celebrities wanting to experiment with a monochromatic look.
Dior
It’s no secret that Christian Dior is one of the most influential fashion houses globally. The house is responsible for some of the most timeless pieces in existence, such as the iconic red dress and the ball gown, as well as the iconic Dior logo. The luxury fashion house has also established a reputation for creating unique colour palettes for female clients, like Alexa Chung and Kate Middleton, with the use of purple, and creating luxurious accessories to match. In fact, Christian Dior recently announced that it would be expanding its collection of purse and handbag designs for women, adding to its already existing gold, burgundy and pale blue colour palettes.
McQueen
Another luxury fashion house that has been responsible for some amazing fashion moments is Alexander McQueen. The English fashion house has created some incredible outfits for A-list celebs, like Natalie Portman and Sienna Miller. McQueen’s use of feathers, snakeskin, velvet and silk are just some of the luxurious fabrics he has used in his creations. One of the most unique items the designer has created is a dress made entirely from dog fur. This isn’t the first time he has used animal fur in a fashion venture — the house’s McQ Skirt and McQueen Boots, which were created in partnership with Salvatori, are also made from the luxurious fabric. You can’t make a mistake wearing an outfit from this house; it will always look chic and elegant.
Coco Chanel
The designer Coco Chanel is responsible for some of the most covetable outfits in history. The iconic fashion house recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, and it’s fair to say that the brand is still going strong. In fact, Chanel’s designs are so timeless that many people believe she designed them with futurism in mind, meaning they will never go out of style. The fashion house is known for its classic elegance; it often creates elaborate gowns and other outfits for weddings and other special events. As well as creating lavish outfits, Chanel has also been responsible for some of the most practical and everyday pieces, like the leather jacket and skirt set that was worn by the Duchess of Windsor when she visited Thailand in 1938.
Givenchy
A luxury brand with strong roots in French haute couture is Givenchy. It was originally established in 1865 by a French designer named Louis-Honoré. Today, the house’s mainstays include fashion design and haute couture. The brand is well known for using luxurious fabrics and for creating elegant outfits for men and women. Some of the garments the house has created are so practical that they have even been used as everyday attire. This includes the brand’s famous ‘Jules Wägmann’ raincoat and matching ‘Jackie Kennedy’ raincoat for men and women. The ‘Jules Wägmann’ and ‘Jackie Kennedy’ coats were originally designed for the Met Gala in 1966 and are still worn to this day. The designs have since been copied all over the world.
Prada
Prada is yet another luxury brand that has been around for over 100 years and is still going strong. It started out as an elegant shoemaker and was later transformed into a luxury brand known for its bold prints and glamorous evening wear. The Italian fashion house is also highly regarded for creating unique party outfits that make celebrities feel like a million bucks. It was previously owned by the American group, the Swarovski family, which purchased it in 2010. It is currently one of the most affordable luxury brands, with items typically retailing for less than £200. If you want to own something chic and elegant, Prada is the brand to purchase.
BFFs
If you follow celebrity news closely, you may have heard of the brand BFF — or Best Friends Forever. It was originally founded by two friends, Joan and Betsy, who wanted to create clothing that their closest friends would want to wear. They named the brand after the friendships they wanted to inspire. Since its inception in 2007, the brand has created a celebrity niche for itself, with items worn by Amber Rose, Gigi Hadid and Emily Blunt. In 2018, BFF released an Alexa Chung capsule collection, which sold out within an hour of launching. It’s fair to say that the brand has exploded in popularity since then, with fans and celebrity friends alike wanting to be seen wearing its pieces.
Dior’s Sienna Miller Wedding
Dior is responsible for some of the most memorable weddings in recent history. In 2018, the designer organised a wedding in England for two of its fashion icons, Sienna Miller and her husband, Joe Jonas. The couple held their ceremony at St Mark’s Church in Venice and dressed their guests in luxurious wedding garments, which had been designed by Alexandre de Paris. Most guests were seen wearing evening gowns and other outfits that had been created by Dior and its Atelier Dior Couture team. It was an extravagant celebration that showed off the designer’s exquisite taste.
Rainbow Couture
If you’re a fashion fan, then you may have also heard of the term ‘rainbow cuisine’. It’s referring to the fashion house Givenchy’s 2017 Panthere creation. The house used multiple colours in a single outfit, making it the first fashion house to do so. It is often associated with weddings and other glamorous events; it has been known to create entire outfits that feature multiple colours. This is because, historically, the French house has been very creative when it comes to colour ways. It started with the iconic red, white and blue stripes that were first seen on the Duchess of Windsor’s dress back in 1938, and which continue to be used to this day. This year, it has diversified its colour options with a focus on soft pastels as well as brighter, more modern hues. It is likely that we will see more colourful outfits in the future.
Met Gala
For those unfamiliar, the Met Gala is an annual art event that takes place in May in New York City. It was founded in 1914 and named after members of the Metropolitan Museum of Art who organized it. It is a celebration of fashion and art that features some of the greatest designers and artists in the world. Past Met Gala’s have featured Chanel, Prada, Dior and other luxury brands. This year, the gala will be celebrating its 100th anniversary and will be looking back at past outfits and colours with a focus on both fashion and art.
Golden Globe Awards
The Golden Globe Awards are an annual award ceremony held in Los Angeles. They were first held in 1945 and honour excellence in film and television. The show is now in its 71st year and is one of the most prestigious film events in the world. The 2019 awards will be held in January and are likely to be a celebration of fashion and film.
