I don’t think there’s any question that Robert Pattinson had one of the most eventful years in recent memory. First, there was his highly publicized split from his long-time partner, the beautiful and talented Kristen Stewart. Then, he began a heated relationship with Twilight Saga screenwriter, Melissa Meyer. Most notably, however, Pattinson embarked on a global movie tour that took him to the Cannes Film Festival, where he appeared in a movie that premiered in the same week he departed from the U.S. This is a man driven by celebrity, and the last thing he wants is to be tied down by a long-term relationship. After all, this would seriously hinder his ability to satisfy his many sexual conquests.
Since returning from Cannes, Pattinson has been seen frequently on the red carpet, appearing alongside his new girlfriend, model-actress, Bella Hadid. Although the couple have kept their relationship private, their public outings have fueled speculation that they are indeed an item. Indeed, they have been spotted holding hands, sharing intimate moments, and even cosying up on a park bench. It would appear that Pattinson is taking his newfound freedom in stride and is embracing the opportunity to be single again, although with a catch.
While the celebrity tabloids have gone into overdrive, declaring that his romance with Hadid is “destined” and that he is “completely enamored” of her, Pattinson himself has remained tight-lipped. This hasn’t stopped the press from digging up dirt, however, as evidenced by stories alleging that he has previously been in a relationship with model and actress Mary Kate Olsen as well as with Twilight Saga star, Nikki Reed. When asked about these rumors, Pattinson simply stated, “If my life were a movie, it would be a rom-com.”
No Regrets, But Still Scared
Pattinson’s coy demeanor doesn’t come across as entirely genuine, as he is clearly trying to play it cool about his new relationship. After all, this is someone who has spent a large part of his adult life in a committed relationship. Moreover, he has been with Stewart for more than a decade, and it’s evident that their on-again, off-again romance has still not healed. In the meantime, he has no qualms about expressing his undying love for Stewart in public, usually through highly suggestive gestures such as staring at her lovingly or holding her hands. When asked why he hasn’t addressed these rumors, Pattinson responded, “Because I haven’t done anything wrong. Why are people saying these things about me? I haven’t even kissed [Hadid] yet. So why would I go around boasting about it?”
These sorts of questions point to Pattinson’s insecurity. It seems that he still harbors some serious distrust of women, which surfaced during his awkward encounter with Stewart. The two previously worked together on the film, On the Road, which was adapted from the classic Jack Kerouac novel. In the movie, Stewart plays the role of Sal Paradise and Pattinson portrays Dean Moriarty, with the two traveling America in search of women and adventure. During one of their stops in New York City, Stewart’s character gets a call from her mother, which deeply upset her. When questioned about why the topic of Sal’s mother calling upset him, Pattinson replied, “Because she was talking about my dog.’”
Although this might seem like a flippant remark, he went on to explain in great detail about his emotional connection to a golden retriever named Cosmo, which he had co-founded with Stewart. The two had adopted the dog together, named him after the famous astronomer, and it was through this dog that Pattinson had first experienced the healing power of animals. When Stewart’s mother began talking about replacing him with a new puppy, Pattinson interrupted her, proclaiming, “No! No! We can’t! We love Cosmo! He’s our baby!” To which Stewart’s character responds, “I know – but I think it would be good for me to have a new puppy.’” As you might imagine, this dialogue deeply affected Pattinson, who went on to say, “I still trust women, but I don’t trust anyone completely. There is always something that you don’t know about them. You don’t know if they’re lying to you or if they like you just because they want something from you. I’m still working on that.”
Pattinson seems to be putting his best foot forward with this new girlfriend, although it’s clear that he’s still not sure whether he’s made the right decision. On one hand, he has finally found the love of his life, someone with whom he is deeply connected on a spiritual level. On the other, Hadid is the daughter of a billionaire, which means that there is an entire other family that she belongs to. Moreover, she is a successful model and entrepreneur who founded and co-owns the fashion house, CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America). She also designed the Victoria Beckham clothing line, which is carried at Neiman Marcus, and was previously married to NBA star, Brandon Knight. This is a woman who knows exactly what she wants, and she makes no apologies for pursuing fame and fortune.
Different Approaches To Enjoyment
Although Pattinson has been open about his history with drug addiction and his struggle with mental illness, he seems to relish in his newfound freedom and doesn’t want to let anyone or anything get in the way of him and his enjoyment of life. One of the ways he is attempting to do this is by expanding his horizons and seeking out new experiences. Some of these new interests include, but are not limited to, exploring the culinary world and drinking whiskey. When asked how he is approaching his newfound freedom, Pattinson responded, “I’m still figuring it out, but I’m trying to enjoy myself more. I hope that makes sense. I don’t think too much in terms of what might happen or what anyone else thinks about me. That’s how I’ve always been.”
On the one hand, Pattinson has found the love of his life and has decided to enter into a committed, long-term relationship with her. On the other, he has been given a taste of freedom that he is still trying to process and make the most of. While he doesn’t want to rush into anything, it’s evident that he also doesn’t want to spoil this new opportunity by dwelling on the past. It’s fair to say that Pattinson is a man trying to find his place in the world and isn’t quite sure how to do so, but he is committed to seeing this adventure through.
