The couple were wed in a private ceremony in Wales last week. And though the actor is best known for his role as the hunky Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, he has been vocal about his love for the countryside and its beauty.
Pattinson, 33, grew up in London, and now splits his time between the UK and Los Angeles, where he has a home and a production company. He has been dating Mia Wasikowska, the daughter of the actor Guy Wasikowski, since 2011. The couple, who have been pictured together multiple times over the last year, were spotted vacationing in Europe in the summer of 2015. They were seen sharing a romantic dinner in Switzerland and later that summer, were spotted at a football match between England and Sweden holding hands and enjoying a relaxed night out in Sweden. They are also close friends with fellow actors Lily Collins and Naomi Watts, who have all been photographed with their arms around Pattinson’s arm.
He’s Countryside-Loving
The actor has been vocal about his love for the countryside, often posting about his travels and adventures in Spain and the UK. He also enjoys spending his time outdoors playing sports like golf and cricket, and riding bikes. He even has a line of classic English country shirts that he is known to wear. In an interview with a Spanish newspaper, Pattinson said, “I love living in the country, everything about it. Going for walks, fixing things around the house, going to the pub for lunch. I absolutely adore it. Even when we went to New York for the premiere of the Twilight movie, I was homesick. I really missed the countryside.”
Pattinson has also been vocal about his support for the British countryside, which has been ravaged by climate change and over-development in the face of rising oil prices. He has said that he would like to see more green space and fewer billboards in rural areas, and has supported the Woodland Trust and their Planting for Life campaign, dedicated to creating more green space and wildlife-friendly planting. In the UK, the government is considering a new Bill that aims to tackle climate change and reduce rural isolation by restoring green spaces and providing better access to them for nature lovers and those who enjoy outdoor activities.
Family-Friendly Getaways
Pattinson has also collaborated with the National Trust to protect and promote historic houses and estates across the UK. Since 2014, he has appeared in a series of YouTube videos where he gives tips on how to spot ghosts and ghouls and points out places where you can go to scare yourself. In one of the videos, he jokes that his mother will be joining him on his next ghost-hunting expedition. His mother, Marjorie Merriweather Pattinson, is a noted antiquarian bookseller and has written a book, Life Lessons, about her adventures in search of hidden treasure and other relics. She and her husband, Robert, traveled the world in search of antiques and art treasures, which were donated to museums and purchased with the couple’s vast collective wealth. Marjorie has often been photographed with her two children, Geneviève and Alexis, and her husband by her side holding a cricket bat. The family also have a dog named Brontë, whose collar is sometimes adorned with an egg cup.
Rough Draft Of A Robinson Crusoe
Pattinson’s mother’s penchant for exploration even rubbed off on her son. While he was in New York City for the premiere of the Twilight movies, a fire broke out at Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, which left a hole as big as the altar where the artists had painted Jesus Christ, breaking one of the most iconic images of the 20th century. The fire caused extensive damage and forced the evacuation of over 100 people, including some film crew members and members of the clergy. While the film was being edited, the crew had to shut down and remove every trace of the damage. It took over two months to finish the film and three weeks to replace what was lost. The entire set, including the damaged Last Supper painting, was recreated.
The Last Supper was only one of many iconic locations that were recreated for the big-budget affair. Leonardo’s the Tower of Pisa, the Roman Colosseum, the 13th century French cathedral, the Siena Cathedral, the Sydney Opera House, and the Roman Forum are among the many famous structures that were recreated for the movie. The extensive damage caused by the 2016 earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, was also recreated in the film, as was much of the city’s renowned damage and character. A scene in which a bus collapses was also directly inspired by the 2013 Mexico Earthquake, as was a sequence during which over a dozen cars collide at once. One of the most memorable scenes in the film is when Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Pattinson) scale the side of a mountain in the middle of a blizzard. It was shot in the Scottish Highlands in the winter of 2015 and required the use of actual blizzards and Scottish snow experts to ensure it looked authentic.
A Suitable Wedding Gift
Pattinson’s family attended the wedding, which took place at the couple’s marital home in Wales, and presented the couple with a honeymoon gift of a beautiful wicker basket filled with exotic woods and fruits from around the world. The woods were then given to the couple to plant in a private garden, as an ode to their native London and its rich flora.
Groom’s Accessory-Wearing Smitten Cohabitation
The son of a vicar, Pattinson has long been interested in astrology and has studied tarot card reading. He has appeared in multiple interviews wearing an astrological shirt with the Sun, Moon and nine planets, as well as the zodiac signs of Taurus, Gemini, and Virgo on the front. The actor has also been seen with a pentacle pendant necklace, which features a five-pointed star – an ancient symbol of good luck. Other accessories that the actor has been seen wearing include a gold-rimmed green-tinted sunglasses, a gold-rimmed yellow-tinted sunglasses, and white and brown brogues. After the ceremony, the newlyweds were treated to a reception dinner at the Cardiff Bay waterfront, followed by a second ceremony at the venue in the afternoon. A traditional English wedding cake was served and speeches made, before the bride and groom cut into their wedding cake and toasted their new life together.
Pattinson and Wasikowska’s wedding was certainly a memorable affair that was filled with family, friends, and romantic gestures. Though it was over a week ago, the celebrations are still being talked about, with some even dubbing the day “Bella Day.” The UK’s Daily Express newspaper even went so far as to say that the wedding would go down as one of the greatest showbiz events of the year. It’s evident that the family, friends, and the couple themselves had fun watching the film’s premiere in Cardigan on March 24, and hope that their big day was as enjoyable for others as it was for them. Congratulations to the happy couple.
