There are, quite simply, so many good things to be said about the El Faro restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. It’s one of the first (if not the first) international restaurants to open in the city. It’s attached to the Gullane Golf Club, so it’s got that added attraction of being on the fairway. But beyond that, it’s just a fabulous restaurant in an unrivalled location. If you go there, you’ll get a true taste of the Mexican lifestyle. Here are just a few.
Good Food
When it comes to the food, there are so many great dishes on offer. It’s all authentic Mexican, of course, and a lot of the ingredients are grown right in the hotel’s herb garden. The menu changes regularly, but there’s always something exciting to look forward to. You’re not always going to find foodie-favourite dishes, but you will find some hidden gem that you’ve never tried before. It’s worth looking out for the weekly specials, too.

Speaking of which, let’s talk about the service. It’s probably the best restaurant service that you’ll find anywhere. They are amazingly welcoming and helpful, and go that extra mile to make sure that your dining experience is just right. If you’ve got a special meal or event to organize, they will work with you to ensure that everything is perfect.
Good Location
This restaurant seems to have got everything right. It’s got a great location, with fantastic ocean views, and is in the centre of the town so there’s always something going on nearby. If you want a relaxing meal after a day at the beach, this is the place to be. The staff are happy to put that extra touch of service, and attentive dining, that you’d expect of a luxury hotel into a relaxed and jovial atmosphere. Excellent.
Great For Groups
It’s got a great atmosphere for large groups. When we were there, we were seated at a large table for six, and the service, while a little slower than in a smaller restaurant, was still impeccable. The kitchen works hard to ensure that there’s always something delicious to share with the group, and that you all leave feeling satisfied. It’s a great choice for families and friends who want to have a fun and leisurely meal together. Just make sure that you book in advance if you want to do that.
Romantic
You can make your experience romantic by seating outside on one of the terraces. With sunset as the dinner guest, and the sound of trickling fountains as a backdrop, it’s the perfect spot for a date. Especially if you include a leisurely meal, followed by a walk along the beach, or a cruise around the bay in the Gullane yacht. The sunset meal seems to be a popular choice, with couples booking the entire restaurant for an anniversary or birthday celebration.
Wonderful For Kids
We know that kids can be a pain in the stomach during a meal. But sometimes, you just want to forget about them for a couple of hours and indulge in a little decadence. There are plenty of high-quality restaurants in Puerto Vallarta that are child-friendly. This one is certainly not excluded from that list. You won’t get arrested for eating a chocolate brownie as a dessert, will you? Just make sure that your kids are comfortable around strangers, especially in a new place. You just need to make sure that the staff are friendly, and that they greet you with a smile. If you are fortunate enough to find a place with an outdoor seating area, that is perfect for a leisurely meal. It won’t break the bank, and it doesn’t need to be spectacular. Just make sure that the ambience is comfortable and relaxed. That’s all you need – a place that is quiet and where you can enjoy a date (or a movie, or a play). It doesn’t get much more romantic than that!
