It’s been six years since Twilight broke social media. Since then, fans have been anxiously awaiting news of the next instalment in the franchise. While there has been no official word from the creators, the fandom has been keeping busy. Most recently, we’ve seen the return of our favourite characters from the book series. Fans have also been voicing their opinions on all kinds of topics, including what to name the next movie in the franchise. Should it be a prequel or a sequel? How does the story end? Should we stick with the main characters or should we explore the rich history of the Cullen family? In this article, we’ll explore the many different opinions and try to answer these questions.
Why Is It Still A Mystery?
Telling you about the next chapter in the Twilight saga would be like telling you about the results of the next Premier League game before it even happens. In other words, you’ll know way more about it than the general public. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait that long. On Wednesday, January 24, 2019, EW revealed exclusively that the next installment in the saga will be titled Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The magazine also shared an official poster for the movie, which you can see below. In the teaser for the film, the tagline reads: “A new power stirs. A young vampire’s awakening. An old enemy returns. And the saga of the Twilight continues.”
On the same day, Sky Atlantic renewed the TV series for a seventh season, which will consist of 12 episodes. The series’ executive producer, Steve Thompson, confirmed the news, saying: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to continue our partnership with Sky Atlantic and to bring the wonderful characters of The Twilight Saga to another exciting chapter. The decision to extend the series was entirely down to the strength of the storytelling, both on screen and off. We know that our fans won’t get bored of this fantastic world we’ve created and are really looking forward to continuing the adventures of Alice, Bella, and the gang.”
In other Twi-related news, Lionsgate will release the eagerly awaited movie on September 7, 2019. Set for release on September 12, 2019, the final season of the HBO fantasy series, Game of Thrones, will premiere on August 25, 2019.
The Many Different Opinions On Name
While most people are very excited about the prospect of more Twilight, not everyone is as keen on the idea of Eclipse. According to a report from Just Jared, fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions about the title. As you might imagine, there are a lot of different opinions, with many people holding strong feelings about the matter. Here’s a small sample of what fans are saying:
“#Eclipse marks a really bad movie; I can’t believe it took 6 years for them to find a better title #Twilight.” Waldo69.
“Eclipse is an amazing movie title. It’s perfect. Nothing more needs to be said. #Twilight.” Rickyb73.
“Why does #Eclipse have to be a movie name? That’s such a cop out. A TV show called Eclipse would have been much better. #Twilight.” LadyC78.
“Eclipse. Best movie title. Ever. #Twilight.” Lauriejulie85.
“I think #Eclipse is such a perfect name for the #Twilight movie. It’s different and interesting and not a name that anyone else could use. #Twilight.” VanessaPettitt897.
“I like #Eclipse. It’s a pretty cool title. It’s not like any other movie title. #Twilight.” Teeb47.
As we mentioned, the main question on everyone’s minds is when will the next Twilight movie be released? Based on the numerous false alarms that happened over the years, it’s amazing that fans have stayed so patient. And, while we don’t want to spoil the fun for anyone who is looking forward to the next installment, the fact that there is no set release date just makes the wait all the more intriguing. We’ll just have to settle for making our own fun in the meantime.
The Many Different Opinions On The Future Of The Saga
While we can’t predict the future, we can take a look at past trends to get a sense of what might be coming next. In the case of Twilight, the most recent trend to bear fruit is fan theories. Specifically, the #TwilightDieHards, a group of fans who closely follow the saga and have taken up residence in a Twi-themed dorm room. On Twitter, the group explains: “We believe that [Twilight and its sequels] should be treated as one cohesive story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. As such, we’ve started a movement, which we’ve named #TwilightDieHardy, to help find the answers the saga has been leaving us for six long years.”
While most fans are likely to agree that the saga will conclude in some fashion, there are various approaches to how this should happen. According to the #TwilightDieHardy, the most logical approach is to begin with Eclipse and follow it up with a series of stand-alone films. In this scenario, the franchise would end with a whimper, rather than a bang. Another popular theory is that the story will continue with a prequel, exploring the origins of the immortal vampires. Still another possibility is that the story will continue with a sequel, exploring what happens to Bella and her family once they’ve broken vampire laws and are forced to live in hiding. While the exact nature of these films is unclear, it’s an exciting time for fans as we gear up for the next phase of the Twilight saga. Who knows, maybe this time, we’ll get our answers.
