The past few weeks have seen a flurry of news regarding Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s blossoming romance. The couple have been spotted at movies, dinners, and even had a small Christmas photoshoot together.
While Stewart has been fairly open regarding her relationship status, Pattinson has kept his relationship details closely guarded. However, as the pair are now regularly spotted enjoying each other’s company, their romance is looking more and more real.
Here, we’ll explore the details of their new romance, including exactly how real it is.
How Real Is Their Romance?
With his actor days behind him and the Twilight franchise no longer on the studio books, Pattinson has spent the past year developing and starring in his own projects, namely Good Time and the upcoming High Life. Additionally, he’s lent his talent to the upcoming Woody Allen film, Celebrity. It’s the kind of versatile and varied schedule that would suggest a good time for the actor, but it’s also the kind of schedule that suggests a hectic social life.
One of the first films that the pair were spotted in was the Cannes blockbuster, All You Need is Coffee. Since then, they’ve been spotted at a variety of movie premieres, including Bombshell, which also premiered at Cannes. They were also both present at the Hollywood premiere of Woody Allen’s The Sweet Shop, which marked Allen’s first return to the big screen in 31 years. While Allen’s return was highly anticipated, it didn’t come without its detractors, with some questioning whether or not Stewart would even be able to fit into the glamorous world of Hollywood, the world she so frequently satirizes in her films.
In between filming schedules, the couple have been spotted out and about in Hollywood restaurants, bars, and even co-starring in an Instagram post that featured them kissing on a beach. Additionally, they’ve been photographed holding hands while out to dinner and at the premieres of their respective films. All of this has led to the question: is this just a professional relationship or does it go deeper?
While they’re often kept separate for movie sets, the two actors have also been spotted arriving at film and TV shoots alike together. And when they are on screen, it’s clear that they enjoy each other’s company. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pattinson gushed, “I love doing things with Kristen—just being with her is such a joy. We had a blast shooting her in Snow White and the Huntsman. She’s a brilliant actress and we’ve had some really interesting chats about acting and life.”
There’s no denying that this is a real and committed relationship, as both actors have put their careers on hold to focus on each other. But is it a romatic partnership or is it business as usual?
The Business As Usual Explanation
Pattinson and Stewart might enjoy each other’s company, but they’ve also both been married before. In 2015, Pattinson walked down the aisle for the second time, marrying Norwegian DJ and producer Robin Sønder
While Stewart has never been married, she has, in the past, spoken candidly about her tumultuous relationship with actor John Stamos. In an interview with Playboy, she discussed the difficulties that she and John faced, “I was raised in a very traditional way, and my first boyfriend was Robert’s cousin. We were only together for a year before I decided to end it and go on the road to film school. It was the typical high school relationship—we were both really independent, strong-willed people, and we clashed a lot as a couple. It wasn’t easy, but we worked through it, and I think the world of him. It was just a matter of time before we decided to be together again. I’m actually on the record as saying that I never really liked John. I don’t know why he’s in my head, but whenever I’m in a relationship, he will show up. I’ve heard that he’s a really great dad and a really supportive husband. I think that if you’re fortunate enough to have both of your family members support you in your relationships, you’re in for a really lucky break.”
While John’s support might help, it’s unclear what role, if any, religion plays in Stewart’s life. A devout Christian, Stewart’s father is a preacher and her mother is a church organist. Both of her grandparents were also very religious. In her memoir, On Becoming Martha King, Stewart talks about the pressure that she felt to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a preacher’s daughter. She writes, “The weight of my family’s expectations settled heavily on my shoulders. I would have to leave my worldly pleasures behind if I wanted to follow in their footsteps and be a preacher’s daughter. A career in the theater seemed as good a choice as any other.”
When Stewart’s grandmother, Mabel, accepted her granddaughter’s decision to become an actress, she reportedly said, “Well, if you’re going to be something, you may as well be something good.” And so, it seems, Mabel was. While Stewart has, over the years, turned down varying roles, the most recent installment of her career was, in a way, a continuation of her grandmother’s mantra.
It’s also unclear what caused Pattinson to walk down the aisle a second time. Rumors have swirled that he and Robin Sønder were hiding an affair from the press, but Sønder has publicly denied these rumors. However, for what it’s worth, Pattinson did admit in his 2015 wedding ceremony to Robin that he hasn’t been faithful to her in the past.
But what is clear is that while these nuptials were once billed as a private ceremony, the event was subsequently covered by numerous media outlets. And it seems that perhaps the only thing these two share in common is that they both want to keep their romantic details private. While Stewart’s previous marriages were, for the most part, private ceremonies, Pattinson hasn’t invited the media to witness his latest commitment to Robin Sønder. And why would he? While these two enjoy each other’s company, it’s not yet clear if they want their romance to be public or private. What do you think? Leave us a comment below!
