The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 may have just topped $100 million in the U.S., but it looks like it’s going to be a long time before we see another performance this strong from the romantic comedy series. As it turns out, the 29-year-old actor, singer, and songwriter behind Edward Cullen has passed away after a bout with flu-like symptoms. He was 29 years old.
Pattinson’s publicist released a statement on Wednesday confirming his death: “It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the passing of Robert Pattinson. He died of flu-like symptoms on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. The family is devastated and request that they be given some privacy during this difficult time.”
Pattinson’s publicist continued, “On behalf of the family we would like to thank everyone for their support and their kind words. They are much appreciated.”
The actor was set to begin filming the fifth installment of the Twilight Saga this month, but unfortunately those plans were put on hold when he fell ill. He is survived by his wife, FKA twigs, and his two children, Charlie and Sophie. The family has chosen to keep private the procedure for his death and asked that everyone respects their privacy in this difficult time.
Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2017. In the meantime, the entire world has lost one of its finest young talents. We will miss you, Robert Pattinson.
