Robert Pattinson’s charitable work has been revealed, following the actor’s wedding to Deborra-Lee in Venice earlier this month. The couple have set up a charitable foundation in Pattinson’s name and have donated funds to various causes in the UK and US! Read on to find out more.

The UK Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated the couple in a statement, saying: “I congratulate Robert Pattinson on his marriage to Deborra-Lee and her team on the launch of their incredible charity. I have no doubt that their collective efforts will benefit many people in need.”

Pattinson’s foundation was officially launched at the end of June at the Natural History Museum in London, where he was joined by his new wife, Deborra-Lee, as well as former girlfriend, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. The couple previously held a fundraiser for the Natural History Museum in 2012 and have continued their fundraising efforts since then, including a London to Paris bike ride in aid of UNICEF in November 2018. They have also supported the Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK and the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the US.

Speaking at the event, Pattinson said: “We are so happy to be able to support such a wonderful cause as UNICEF, which does so much to help children around the world, particularly in Africa where my father grew up. It’s great that we can give something back.”

The Reasons For The Charitable Work

According to a statement from the actor’s spokesperson, it’s not just about the wedding gifts for Pattinson and his wife. The pair actually began planning their charity work well before the big day, and worked with various experts to ensure their plans came to fruition.

The spokesperson said: “They would like to create a permanent legacy of their marriage through a foundation that will focus on issues that matter most to them both. It was important to them that the work of the foundation is deeply respectful of cultural differences and ensures that no one is left out.”

As a result of these efforts, the couple were able to collect £200,000 in wedding gifts, with £40,000 of this coming from Pattinson’s side. The gifts were reportedly accepted with “deep gratitude” by the couple’s guests, according to an onlooker. The spokesperson added that the couple hope to eventually be able to support other charities through their foundation.

In addition to this, Pattinson has been busy promoting his new film, Good Time, which he wrote and directed. The movie, which also stars Rihanna, is set to be released in the UK on 16 July and in the US on 20 July.

Pattinson’s Foundation & The Reasons For Its Formation

Pattinson’s foundation will be based in the UK, but will also work closely with the actor’s team in the US to ensure their efforts are as effective as possible.

According to Pattinson’s representatives, the idea behind the foundation is to work on issues that matter most to them, whilst also learning from the experience of others. They want to give something back to the communities that have supported them, and also be able to support other charities and causes that matter to them.

The couple’s spokesperson added: “They have watched over the years as a number of their friends have lost loved ones to cancer, and decided that they wanted to do something to try and help prevent this. They are deeply passionate about children’s health and wellbeing, and feel strongly that they can make a difference.”

The couple have been busy setting up their charity foundations, as well as planning their wedding and travel around the world for their honeymoon. Following the wedding, the actor will begin a period of intensive media training and book tour preparations, with his representatives confirming that he will not be taking a break from his busy schedule.

Asked about whether he has any advice for future newlyweds planning a wedding, Pattinson’s spokesperson said: “Take your time, don’t rush into decisions and remember to celebrate every moment. You can always add more ‘wow’ factors by having a themed wedding, whether it’s a carnival-themed wedding or a circus-themed wedding, which I’m sure many couples would love to have!”
