As the premiere of the highly anticipated new film, Good Morning Vietnam, a.k.a. ‘The Wedding’, draws near, many fans may be eagerly awaiting news about the status of one of Hollywood’s biggest love matches. While there has been no official announcement, there have been plenty of signs that Robert Pattinson (Photo: Getty Images) and his wife, Camille Rowe (Photo: Instagram), are indeed set to wed. As previously reported by E! News, a marriage license was issued by the State of California late last year, and the couple have been spotted on several occasions looking lovingly towards each other and their wedding vows.

The Early Years

In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Pattinson revealed that he and Camille had first met back in 2003, and that their courtship had been a rather traditional one. “I grew up in England and I went to university in London, where I met a girl named Camille,” he said. “I proposed to her when I was 21, and I actually got engaged to be married when I was 22. So, it’s been a while. I actually grew up in a very stereotypical, English, upper-class family and I went to private school, so it was quite a sheltered environment. I think that’s why I responded so well to Elton’s [John Bon Jovi’s] song, ‘Walking On Sunshine,’ because it sounds like my wedding day!” (You can read more about Pattinson’s upbringing here.)

Wedding Plans

Although they have remained relatively quiet about their plans for the big day, it seems that the couple are indeed set to be married. As previously reported by E! News, a wedding license was issued by the State of California late last year, and the couple have been spotted on several occasions looking lovingly towards each other and their wedding vows. Furthermore, according to reports, over 1,200 guests have been invited to the intimate ceremony, which is being planned for later this year. No details have been revealed about the wedding venue or the cake, but we do know that the newlyweds will exchange rings that were designed by Harry Winston.

The Parents’ Involvement

It seems that Robert Pattinson and Camille’s parents are fully behind their decision to wed. As previously reported by E! News, Pattinson’s father, David, and mother, Lynne, stood by their son as he made the decision to propose. “He felt that it was the right time, and he wanted to do it in a way that was very special and private,” David said at the time. “He asked me to help him pick out the perfect engagement ring, and I think he found it.” According to reports, the couple plan to carry out their wedding ceremony at the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles, California, with the blessing of David’s family.

Elton John’s Impact

It was previously reported that the singer had written a special song called ‘Wedding Song’ for the occasion, but it seems he may have had another motive for writing the song. In a very interesting coincidence, ‘Walking On Sunshine’ and ‘Wedding Song’ were both featured on the 1991 album, Breakaway, which was recently certified triple platinum in the U.S. The album marked a musical turning point for Elton, who had been inactive since the 1980s, and it brought him back to the top of his game. According to the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Billboard, breakaway was “one of the most influential albums of the past 25 years”. Additionally, ‘Wedding Song,’ along with ‘Rocket Man’, hold the record for the singer’s best-selling single with over 8 million copies sold worldwide.

Interestingly enough, ‘Walking On Sunshine’ was first performed at a marriage ceremony in 2005, but it wasn’t until 2014 that the song was finally released as a single, 10 years after the original performance. The song’s most vocal fans are undoubtedly Elton and his wife, Bernie Winch, who attended the wedding in 2005 and sang along with the pop icon. “‘Walking On Sunshine’ has, for us, become our most iconic song,” Elton said in a statement about the song’s 20th anniversary. “It was written for one of our friends’ weddings, but we all feel like it’s about us! We laughed and cried and danced and sang along to this song for hours.” The song’s co-writer, Tim Rice, also had a few words to say about the “special connection” between the song and the wedding. “I think it’s fair to say that ‘Walking On Sunshine’ embodies what this couple want to celebrate,” Rice said in a statement. “It was written as a thank you to Elton for helping them to find the happiness that they have now. It’s been an incredible journey. They are truly blessed.” At the time of this writing, there is no indication that ‘The Wedding’ will live up to its title as the ‘wedding of the decade’, but if it does, it will certainly be one of the most memorable ceremonies in Hollywood history.
