The man of the moment, Robert Pattinson, graced the red carpet at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) with his fashionable self, accompanied by a stunning, yet subdued smile.
The Australian actor has been on everybody’s lips since his steamy kiss with Twilight superstar, Kristen Stewart at the 2011 American Music Awards in November 2011. Since then, the couple’s passionate, yet secretive romance has captivated fans and non-fans alike.
And it seems that their romance is not one-sided. Not even two months after their smooch, Pattinson was spotted getting cozy with Stewart at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game on April 26, 2012. The couple was also seen cuddling and smooching at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
Now, a month after their second public display of affection, Stewart and Pattinson were back at it again. This time at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, where they were photographed holding hands and gazing into each other’s eyes.
While some saw this as nothing more than a publicity stunt by the couple’s team of publicists, many believe that this was indeed a romantic gesture that will go down in history as one of the most emblematic, yet discreet celebrity kisses. An Australian newspaper columnist even dubbed it as the “Pucker Factor 9”, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the kiss that launched a thousand memes.
More Than Meets The Eye
In case you’re wondering about the kiss and whether or not you should try it, here’s a little background on the two famous faces.
Pattinson’s love life came under the spotlight in early 2011 when he was snapped kissing British actress, Emily Brown, on the set of the upcoming movie, Eclipse. Although the two had been dating since 2008, it was their on-screen chemistry that sealed their fate as a Hollywood couple. After filming wrapped, Brown traveled to London to be with Pattinson, who played a big-city lawyer in the romantic comedy.
The couple was later seen holding hands and looking cozy at the 2012 Golden Globes in Los Angeles. That same month, Stewart and Pattinson were also photographed kissing during lunch at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. The Australian actor also thanked Stewart, along with other female film stars who had supported his wife, Cressida, during her battle with cancer, in a heartfelt speech at the 2012 Vanity Fair awards.
New York Times Best-Selling Author’s Stunning Choice Of Cressida Leather
While in London, Brown got the opportunity to see first-hand the impact that Cressida’s death had on her celebrity beau. She later revealed that the couple’s public displays of affection were quite different behind the scenes. In fact, Pattinson admitted to Brown that he didn’t feel comfortable with his new bride-to-be’s parents—particularly her father, Tony, who had passed away years ago—seeing them so intimately.
So instead of visiting his parents’ house, as he had done before, Pattinson chose to hold a very private ceremony at the Register Office in Wimbledon on April 21, 2011. A photo of the couple’s stunning, yet understated wedding day was published a few weeks later in a prestigious British newspaper, The Daily Mail.
The paper revealed that Cressida had chosen to wear a stunning, yet modest ivory dress by Australian designer, Elizabeth Cole; and a delicate gold mesh veil. And it’s safe to say her choice of shoes were just as memorable: a pair of beige, platformed sandals with a delicate strap that tied them together. Accompanied by an Elizabeth Taylor-esque floral arrangement, the bride looked every bit the part of a beautiful, yet subdued bride.
The On-Screen Chemistry
It’s fair to say that the 29-year-old’s marriage to Cressida was a match made in heaven. Not only did the author’s stunning choice of bride epitomize class and elegance, but her talent for matchmaking also helped to seal the couple’s status as Hollywood royalty. In a candid interview with Parade magazine in 2011, Cressida spoke about the process of matching her son-in-law with the most famous women in Hollywood. In addition to helping to arrange his wedding to Brown, she also helped to set up Stewart’s wedding to actor, Justin Timberlake.
“If it wasn’t for me, you’d still be alone,” she said about her late husband, who had been married to actress, Jessica Lange. “I introduced them. I set up both of their weddings. I’m still their best friend. I’d do anything for either of them.”
Pattinson’s Passionate Romantic Side
While many male celebrities can’t get enough of the press, it’s clear that Robert Pattinson is different. A quick glance at his Twitter page will prove that the young Hollywood star is not one to shying away from the limelight. Indeed, he often uses his account to share his views on various social issues as well as his famous friends’ up-skilling journeys.
For example, the actor tweeted about the importance of diversity and inclusivity, before attending a party celebrating the Australian premiere of the coming-of-age movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, in NYC in December 2011.
He also took time out of his day to congratulate Taylor Swift on her 24-karat-golden-record-breaking achievement. The pop star had previously collaborated with the Australian actor on the song, “The Story of Us”, which was featured on her album, Red.
Pattinson’s latest role is a supporting character in the upcoming movie, The Lone Ranger. He plays Tonto, the sidekick of Johnny Depp’s title character, who teams up with Sheriff John Bachery (Depp) to fight outlaws in the Old West. The A-list cast also includes Armie Hammer, Helena Bonham Carter, and Christoph Waltz.
And while most of his fans may know him as the rugged, male lead in the Twilight series, it’s clear that the British actor is not one to shy away from portraying strong, passionate characters.
In addition to playing a part in the cinematic landscape with his iconic roles in the Twilight films, Pattinson is also renowned for his part in the acclaimed drama series, How I Met Your Mother, as Ted, the boyish father of five children. The role won him an International Emmy in 2009.
He is also well-known for the leading role in the 2012 horror flick, Only God Forgives, alongside Tom Hardy and Jessica Alba. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the film is based on the novel, The Neon Demon, by the New York Times best-selling author, Bret Easton Ellis. Set in Los Angeles, the story follows a young woman, Dakota (Alba), who discovers a strange affinity for animals. She begins to neglect her social skills and human relationships as she falls deeper and deeper into an addiction to modeling. The movie was released in the US on October 25th and has so far received mostly positive reviews from critics.
The Reason They’re Keeping Their Marriage Secret
Pattinson and Stewart’s romance is undoubtedly one of the most talked-about celebrity stories of the year. And it’s not hard to see why: the two gorgeous stars have been very open about their feelings for each other. In August 2011, Pattinson confessed to Parade magazine that he was “head over heels” in love with his girlfriend. So much so, that he didn’t want to upset her by telling her parents about the new woman in his life.
“I feel like my heart has been changed forever,” he said. “It’s not just that I want to marry her; I truly want to spend the rest of my life with her. I don’t know what will happen, but I feel like she’s made me a better person.”
He added: “She makes me want to be a better actor. She makes me want to be a better person. I’m not just talking about the romance side—she’s helping me to grow as a person. She brings out the best in me.”
That same month, Stewart confessed that she felt the same way about Pattinson. Talking to the New York Times, the actress said: “I think he’s amazing, but I also feel like whatever he wants, he can have. I want what he wants. I love that about him.”
