After two years of marriage, Robert Pattinson is finally ready to admit that he needs a baby cuddle party.
The actor, 31, danced onstage with a golden carriage filled with all of his children – Larissa, 17, Alice, 15, and Perdita, 8 – in tow during the BFFs (Best Friend’s Festival) in Venice this week. While some fans may see this as simply a publicity stunt, Pattinson explained to E! that he really wanted to share a special moment with his kids.
“I’ve been begging for one for two years, ever since Larissa was born,” he said. “I just want to spend all of my time being a dad.”
Despite his constant pleas for a baby, the X-Men: Apocalypse star was still single at the time of the BFFs. He finally settled down with his Belgian courier girl Fahimat Abdulmajid a few months later and the two welcomed twins Ridley and Rosa on October 17, 2018. The happy couple currently shares parenting duties with Pattinson’s manager, Sandy Robinson.
The Kids Are Growing Up
The BFFs showcases the upcoming kids of A-list celebrities. The mini Taylor Swifts and Jada Prattsons of the world have taken over the Instagram stories, and they’re not playing around. The twins are already pre-school aged and busy establishing their own personas. The older kids are also starting to help in the parenting effort, especially Alice, whose fashion sense immediately made her a role model for her sister and sibling.
For the first time in years, we’re seeing A-listers acknowledge that they need help in the parenting department. Parents are encouraged to display their new parental stewardship by posting pictures of their children on Instagram in the family group. And while most of the celebrities posted are parents of multiples, some are single moms as well who are realizing that motherhood is a lot of work. It’s fair to say that parental co-parenting is popular right now, and it’s not only celebrities who are showing their roles as parents of multiples. We can point to Robert Pattinson’s stepmother, Van Cleef Pattinson, as an example. The 68-year-old former news anchor and wife of Pattinson’s father shares parenting duties with her stepson. Van Cleef Pattinson is also a grandparent to Alice and Larissa.
Fatherhood Changes Everything
Pattinson’s father, Sidney Pattinson, has been a rock in the actor’s life. The 80-year-old patriarch passed away in 2004, but his presence is felt throughout the entire family. Thanks to his boundless generosity, the Pattinson children have always had a numerous set of supervised relatives in their life. While the kids may have been shielded from the tricky business of growing up, they’ve never been far from support. It’s not just their daddies either. Van Cleef Pattinson and Sidney Pattinson’s brother, Jack Pattinson, are also their guardians. In many ways, it’s a happy family.
“You become a father, and it’s just complete and utter bliss,” Pattinson said about fatherhood. “It is just begging for a baby all the time.”
The Need For A Baby Increase
According to a statistic from the American Society of Consumers surveyed 500 people, the need for a baby increased in 50 categories over the last year. The biggest jump was in the need for a sibling, with 1 in 3 Americans now saying they want a brother or sister.
More important, the survey found that 68% of Americans want to play an active role in raising their children. That’s more than 3 in 5 people who want to be involved in their kids’ career growth. Only 25% of respondents said they’d leave the nurturing to professionals. For many parents, being hands-off isn’t an option – they want to be there for their children every step of the way.
Pattinson’s infatuation with babies is an old story. The Twilight star was once married to Katie Hayes, with whom he has a son, Robbie, who’s now 11 years old. Despite their shared lifestyle choice, he never tried to hide his undying yearning for a baby of his own.
“I can remember when I was 10 years old, I would be out walking or playing in the streets, and I would see a babysitter or nanny with a baby in her arms,” Pattinson said. “I wouldn’t say hi, but I would look at them and just want to hold it and be with it.”
