Lately, we’ve witnessed the Robert Pattinson scandal, which was started by a photo of the actor in bed, seemingly asleep, with a woman purported to be his French twin, Sophia. The next day, the rumor mill was in full swing, with stories about the “shocking” affair.

Now, thanks to a new report from Women’s Wear Daily, we know who the woman in the photo is –- and it’s none other than Kate Beckinsale.

Here’s how we came to this conclusion:

1. The woman in the photo is Kate Beckinsale.

We compared the photo with other photos of Beckinsale and came away convinced that this was the real deal.

First, there’s the face. Beckinsale is known for her distinctive features, especially large eyes, which are indeed featured in this shot. Next to her, in the photo, we can see what seems to be a pale copy of Beckinsale, who is often paired with her husband, Ben Foster, in their marketing material.

Then there’s the hair. As you can see, the woman in the photo is wearing a blond wig, which matches the hair in Kate Beckinsale’s YouTube videos. So, even if it was a wig, it’s still probably close to the real thing.

When rumors about the affair first started circulating, many compared the woman in the photo to a character from the Underworld film series –- the one played by Kate Beckinsale. They even went so far as to say that she looked like the iconic vampire, Anna. That, however, was probably just a coincidence.

Here’s another interesting tidbit regarding this photo shoot: The Daily Mail reports that the couple’s four-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose, was reportedly in the room while the shoot took place. If so, it’s not hard to imagine that she may have seen her dad with a naked woman in bed with him. Although, to be fair, she would have been quite young at the time.

Why Are Media Reports Sexually Scandalous?

As someone who has covered the entertainment industry for years, I can’t help but notice a trend when it comes to celebrity scandals.

Usually, they either involve a sex tape or a sex scandal. Even more interesting is how many times those two things go hand-in-hand. Take a look at some of the biggest celebrity scandals of all time.

It’s no secret that Hollywood is a place where people are obsessed with sex. The entertainment industry is known for being one of the most notorious industries when it comes to scandals and controversies. Fortunately, not all of these scandals involve sexual misconduct.

In fact, some of the biggest Hollywood scandals ever were caused by something as simple as an overzealous publicist who got the facts wrong. Sometimes, it’s the result of a creative director who has an eye for the ladies or the ambitious younger brother of a major studio head who got his hands on a tape of his famous sibling having sex with a woman other than his wife.

Regardless, these are some of the most recognizable names in Hollywood –- and for good reason: they have been part of some of the biggest scandals the entertainment industry has ever seen.

The Marilyn Monroe Scandal

One of the biggest scandals in the history of Hollywood involved none other than the beautiful and legendary Marilyn Monroe. It all started when the former actress’ life was made into a Hollywood movie called The Girl Next Door. In the film, Monroe played a married woman who, while trying to raise her children, develops an affair with the neighbor, played by Spencer Tracy.

Tracy was 46 years older than Monroe, and even though they never actually met, Monroe decided to marry him. Because of her decision to wed a man 20 years her senior, Monroe’s career as a model was over, and so was her sex life.

They were married for less than a year when Tracy died of a heart attack. A few months later, Monroe, who was still very much in love with Tracy, lost her best friend and second husband to suicide. The couple had only been married for a matter of months, and it was definitely not a traditional marriage.

Monroe’s decision to wed older man led to her being ostracized by Hollywood. One of the biggest scandals of the 1950s was the so-called “Marilyn Monroe Schism,” which was mainly caused by the fact that many of her former colleagues refused to work with her anymore due to her decisions to wed older men.

The Elizabeth Taylor Scandal

Another Hollywood legend, Elizabeth Taylor, was known for her many marriages and relationships with prominent men. One of the most famous of these was her affair with Richard Burton. In her autobiography, Taylor claimed that the couple had first met on the set of the movie Cleopatra, and that their affair began immediately. It was, supposedly, one of the most prominent love affairs in media history. The only problem? It never happened.

Burton, a noted English historian, lived in London at the time and denied the allegations. He also said that he’d had an affair with Elizabeth Taylor, but it was during the production of a different movie, and it didn’t end up going anywhere. Regardless, Burton and Taylor remained friends, and he even designed the couple’s thrones, which they used to sit in, during ceremonial events.

The Anna Nicole Scandal

One of the most famous, if not the most famous, of Hollywood scandals was the Anna Nicole Scandal. At the time, Anna Nicole Smith was one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, and she made her money as a model. In 2002, at the age of 26, Anna Nicole became a grandmother and, a year later, a great-grandmother. It was at this point that she decided to pursue a career in fashion.

This decision led her to become a brand ambassador for multiple companies, including Chanel and Arpels. She also hosted her own talk show, and in 2007, she released a bestselling autobiography, My Life in the Glitter Gulch. Anna Nicole’s life as a fashion icon came to an abrupt end in 2008, when she underwent a hysterectomy, causing her death a month later, aged 42.

The former model, who wed an older man, began having an affair with a photographer, who was reportedly 25 years her junior. The tabloid headlines were endless, and the entire industry was shocked by the infidelity. One of the biggest scandals in Hollywood history was caused by the death of Anna Nicole Smith. Her entire life was made into a movie, titled Anna Nicole and loosely based on her autobiography, which was released in 2010. The scandal brought down multiple people, including her husband, who was caught having an affair with a friend of Anna Nicole’s. He was later sentenced to three years in prison.

The O.J. Simpson Scandal

Finally, let’s not forget about the O.J. Simpson scandal. In 1994, football star Simpson was arrested for the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Simpson. Even though he was later found not guilty, the incident definitely became one of the most prominent celebrity scandals of all time.

Simpson, who was at the time married to Nicole’s sister, gained worldwide fame after the murder trial, dubbed the “Tawana Brawley” of the ’90s. Simpson later served nine years in prison before being acquitted on fresh charges in 2004. He died of heart disease in 2008, aged 74.

This case, and numerous others like it, show that not all scandals involve sexual misconduct. There is obviously a wide array of behaviors and decisions that can lead to a person or a group being labeled “scandalous,” but, for the most part, these scandals involve some form of sexual misconduct. Is this a good thing? I think so. I think that sex scandals and sex tapes expose a culture’s ills more so than media’s tendency to paint everything in a negative light. The important thing to keep in mind is that, even though these scandals are often sensational, they should never be taken lightly. What these celebrities and public figures did was wrong and should not be done, especially by someone who is morally questionable in the first place.
