If you have been following the news at all, then you know that Robert Pattinson has been in the spotlight quite a bit recently. The 27-year-old actor has been cast in the upcoming drama movie Batman vs. Superman, and while we wait for filming to start, we have been gifted with a whole host of new images of the actor as the Dark Knight. Most recently, Pattinson was photographed wearing a pair of distinctive blue-tinted glasses.
The actor was undoubtedly sporting the fashion accessory as part of an ongoing costume revision for the movie, but this photo is perhaps the first time we have seen him wear these glasses, which are unmistakable even to those who have not seen the movie yet.
In fact, these aren’t the first time the actor has gone dark, either. He has been seen onscreen previously (and off) in a number of well-known Batman costumes, some of which were arguably better than others.
It’s not that there is anything wrong with any of these costumes; rather, it is that the actor tends to favor certain looks more than others, and it is difficult to tell which one he favors at the moment.
It is perhaps no coincidence that the two images that have really caught the public’s imagination are ones that the actor has chosen to sport some rather memorable accessories. One photo shows Pattinson donning a purple and white striped beard and a top hat, evoking images of the classic Batman comic book character. The other features the actor in a costume composed of a gray hoodie and jeans, making him look like a real-life version of Gordon Lickety, the original ‘90s Batman.
It seems that Pattinson is in need of a style makeover, and we couldn’t be happier to help. Here are some of our favorite looks that the actor could sport if he decides to follow in the footsteps of his onscreen self.
Beard And Top Hat
When it comes to fashion, most people think of clothes; however, beards are making a comeback, and we couldn’t be happier. Not only is it fashion-forward to sport facial hair, but it is also a bold statement and an indication of masculinity.
It seems that the actor has taken a liking to the fashion accessory, and based on this photo, it appears as though he is trying to replicate the style of the classic French actor Sacha Baron Cohen, best known for his comedy masks. If you’re unfamiliar, there is a substantial history of beards in French cinema, dating back to the 1930s. This trend continued through the years, with leading man Gary Cooper sporting a very memorable full and bushy beard in the film The Big House, which premiered in 1934.
While we’re on the subject of beards, let’s discuss top hats. Not only do they make a grand appearance in history, but they are also a symbol of fashion and style- a classic example of which can be found on the head of Rudolph Valentino. When it comes to fashion-forward beards and top hats, it’s clear that the actor is trying to put his spin on an historical stereotype and come up with something modern and stylish.
Gray Hoodie And Jeans
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves: based on this photo, the actor appears poised to take on a more contemporary role as Batman. It would be great to see the actor experiment with different looks, styles, and fashion choices, but it’s not exactly a secret that he has had problems with addiction and mental health in the past. It would be a shame if this affected his personal life and the way he approaches his work, but it’s important to consider these factors before jumping to any conclusions.
As a result, it is essential that we temper our enthusiasm with a healthy dose of skepticism. While it would be great to see the actor embrace a more contemporary aesthetic and ditch the costumes from his past, it would be a mistake to get too invested in his style choices without proper cause.
Dark Knight Eyewear
There isn’t much not to like about these glasses. They are simple, stylish, and offer a decent amount of protection from the sun’s harsh ultraviolet rays. Most importantly, however, is that they offer a unique vision angle, unlike anything else the actor has worn thus far.
There isn’t much else to say about these shades. They are plain Jane, but they do the job and they do it well. These are the types of glasses that Alfred Pennyworth would wear (if the character could actually see over his huge nose).
Comic Book Style
It is no secret that we are huge comic book fans. The movies have undoubtedly influenced our fashion choices (hence the resurgence in beards and top hats), but the influence runs both ways.
These are the types of sunglasses that we would want to see the characters we love most often wearing. While the films offer a comedic slant, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that many of the costumes and fashion choices would translate well to the big screen. It would be great to see the characters we love most sported stylish sunglasses, but it would also be great to see them sport funny and outlandish costumes as well!
Contemporary Take
While we love the nostalgic and historical aspects of beards and top hats, it’s important to keep in mind that styles change and evolve, and it would be a shame to get stuck in the past. Fashion is a continuous journey, and it would be great to see the actor continue to evolve and experiment with new styles as he dons different costumes for different roles.
As this photo suggests, it appears that the actor is taking a more contemporary approach to his Batman costume, which is fantastic! It would be great to see the character evolve with the times, and it would be a perfect match if this were the case. While it would be wonderful to see the style evolution continue, it would also be a shame to see the character become completely outdated. With this in mind, it is important to remain vigilant about what types of costumes and styles he decides to sport next.
It’s been a while since we have seen the actor in a new and exciting costume, and based on these latest photos, it seems as though he is taking the opportunity to reinvent himself yet again. Not only would it be great to see fresh new looks, but it is also important to remember that the clothes the actor chooses can have an impact (for better or worse) on his acting performance. As ever, time will tell.
