The actor Robert Pattinson stopped by San Francisco today for the unveiling of the Batman symbol on the city’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The “Batman” design will be lit up and be visible from cars, boats, and pedestrians driving, walking, or cycling on the bridge.
Pattinson was decked out in a Batman outfit, complete with a black cape, cowl, and Robin Hood-style hat, and he looked dashing enough to stop even the most ardent Batman fan from wishing he’d put the suit on wrong.
“I’m sure this will delight the millions of Batman fans out there,” said Pattinson, adding that he was there to support the non-profit organization Keep A Breast, which raises funds and awareness for women’s health issues. “Keep A Breast is an amazing organization, and their products are so cool! I couldn’t think of a better way to support them.”
Outfit Details
If you thought the actor’s outfit was stylish, wait till you see the rest of the attire for Keep A Breast’s unveiling event. From an array of luxurious dresses to a stunning full-length red-carpet gown, we’ll be stocking you with the most fashionable looks from head to toe.
The organization also collaborated with designer Salvatore Ferragamo on a special collection of handbags and shoes. Ferragamo is best known for his work in the field of women’s shoes and handbags, so the designer’s expertise was essential to the project.
The event was opened to the public, and those who couldn’t make it out to the bridge could still take heart in the fact that they could see it from street level. The statue was lit up at night and will remain like that until next month, when it will be switched off until the following spring cleaning. Then, it will be turned back on and remain like that for the rest of the year.
Why Robert Pattinson?
We’re guessing that the star was chosen for the project because of his association with Harley Quinn, the Joker’s quirky, crime-fighting sidekick. According to E! News, Harley and Robert have been seen at a handful of public events together, including a 2015 Golden Globes afterparty and this summer’s premiere of the Joker, in which they reportedly have a cameo appearance. Whether this is a publicity stunt or a sign of an already-established romantic relationship, this strange pair seems to have struck up something with the internet.
Harley Quinn is the fictitious companion of infamous villains like the Joker and the Riddler. Born Mariana Galante in 1971, the New York-based artist became interested in the macabre and crime fiction at a young age when she began reading Batman comics. Her fascination with the dark side of the human psyche led her to create her famous character, which has since become an internet meme and social media sensation.
Quinn rose to fame when she won an award for her Joker wallpaper, which was later made into a T-shirt. She has since designed several other items of clothing and souvenirs inspired by the Batman universe, including a striking black-and-red dress that is an ode to the Caped Crusader’s classic outfit, a necklace made in the shape of a question mark, and even a tattoo designed after Harley’s distinctive ‘Harley smile.’
The Future of the Batman Design
So what will the future of Batman design hold? Well, a few things are certain: it will never go out of fashion, as long as there are caped crusaders and villains to fight; and it will be used as a fashion accessory by celebrities and socialites everywhere.
With the grand opening of the Batman symbol on the Golden Gate Bridge fresh in everyone’s minds, it’s only a matter of time before the fashion world discovers its potential. From handbags and shoes to dresses and t-shirts, you can bet that something will be crafted in the shape of this famous silhouette.
