The Batman, Ben Affleck, has been a frequent sight around the tabloids since being cast in the role of the Dark Knight back in September. With a November 2019 release date in sight, the media has gone into overdrive, flooding our news feeds with photos of the actor as he gears up for the role. While it’s been fun and exciting to see Affleck’s Batman evolve over the past several months, let’s take a moment to reflect on the true cost of the franchise. Namely, how much does it actually cost to be Batman?

The Caped Crusader’s Budget

To begin with, let’s discuss what exactly it is that Affleck and company have spent so far in order to get Batman up and running. In October 2019, the actor tweeted that he was currently filming in London and that the production had just spent a whopping £22 million ($27 million) on set alone. It was a staggering amount, especially since the production had previously estimated that it would cost around £15 million ($19 million) to make. In an interview with Vogue, Affleck confirmed that the production had blown its budget, elaborating that “everything went wrong.”

So what went wrong? The production schedule was pushed back, forcing the filmmakers to rework many of the scenes. Additionally, the visual effects (VFX) had to be redone due to technical errors. As a result of these delays, production started a week later than expected and the budget ballooned.

Now that we know how expensive it was to get The Batman made, let’s take a look at how much money Ben Affleck has on hand to continue the adventures of the Dark Knight. Namely, how much does The Batman cost?

Where Does The Money Go?

To begin with, even though he is the richest actor in Hollywood and has the absolute world at his fingertips, Ben Affleck hasn’t had much money flowing into his bank account. In fact, the opposite has been true. For much of his adult life, Affleck has been unable to generate enough revenue to make significant financial gains. It seems that The Batman may have changed all that, at least for the time being.

In 2019, Affleck earned a reported £32 million ($39 million) for his role in The Batman. In 2020, he is reportedly set to make £50 million ($62 million) for a pair of films, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Death On The Nile.

So how much will Affleck actually have in 2021? Let’s take a look…

Will The Money Last?

Even though The Batman has yet to be released, the film has already started making money. According to insiders, The Batman is currently on track to break even by the end of the year. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. At least for the time being.

Of course, this is all optimistic speculation. The movie is still a few weeks away from being released and it is highly unlikely that the film will lose money. In fact, The Batman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2021 and it’s clear that audiences are responding. Both Cobb and King are currently predicting big things for The Batman.

So, it seems that the transition from Bruce Wayne to The Batman hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for Ben Affleck. In fact, the opposite has been true. It’s been a bumpy road to the big screen for the actor. With The Batman, he finally gets the spotlight and the recognition that he has long deserved. Will he be able to continue The Batman franchise for years to come? Who knows, but for now, at least, he has a decent amount of money to play with.
