In the near future, everyone will be talking about Twilight. For those who have not yet been converted, allow us to reintroduce you to the mesmerizing world of sparkly vampires, werewolfs and teen angst.
Set in the glamorous age of the MTV generation, this is Edward Cullen’s story. The story of a vampire who falls in love with a human girl and gives up his evil ways. The story of a charming young man who takes a shine to Bella Swan. In the end, we are supposed to be happy that these two lovebirds get to finally mingle and be together. Right?
Bella Swan represents the ultimate female fantasy. The independent woman whom men find attractive and challenging. The woman who accepts the love and support of a great man, but still wants to have fun. The woman who knows what she wants and is unafraid to go after it. Not unlike yourself, dear reader.
Bella Swan is the product of filmmakers seeking to appeal to a broad audience. The design team had to work hard to make Bella feel real and relatable. Yet still unique and recognizable as an Edward Cullen character.
This was not an easy feat and the designers had to settle for a compromise. The final design features a pale green gown with sweetheart necklines and cap sleeves. The color of the gown is not a coincidence – it is meant to represent both the freshness of spring and the living greens of the Cullen clan’s estate. The combination of the bright colors is meant to be both calming and pleasing on the eye. The cap sleeves and the front necklace are further examples of the careful mingling of Edward Cullen’s and Bella Swan’s design elements.
Who Is Edward Cullen?
Edward Cullen is the charming and witty leader of the prestigious Cullen clan. He is a skilled and experienced hunter and owns his own company. For centuries, the Cullen genealogy has been filled with strong and fearless men. Like their founder, Edward Cullen is a natural leader who is also quick with a quip or a sharp barb. He stands at the head of his family not only because of his physical stature, but also because of his intellectual prowess and sharp wit.
What Is The Role Of Women In His Life?
While it would be wonderful to see Bella Swan as the center of the story, the filmmakers knew that this was not going to be realistic. Women play a very important role in the life of Edward Cullen. From the moment he was born, his father James has doted on him. Even as a child, James encouraged Edward’s inquisitiveness and independence. His mother, Martha, cherished her only son’s playful spirit. She indulged his every whim so that he would not feel deprived of attention or love.
Martha died when Edward was just 14. The loss left a gaping hole in his life that was only filled when he met Rosalie, the daughter of a family friend. Edward fell for Rosalie at first sight and proposed to her just two weeks later. Since then, he has dedicated his life to making her happy and content. Rosalie has given birth to five children, four of whom survive. Edward is the father of all of his children, but also the godfather of two of them. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Edward is also an accomplished businessman who owns multiple companies. He is the scion of an illustrious family that has been a major presence in the U.K. for centuries. He is a modern Renaissance man who belongs to a distinguished family of hunters and explorers. We could go on and on, but the list of accolades is too long for even the most diehard Twilight fans. Suffice it to say, Edward has had a charmed life. He is the epitome of a self-made man whose single-minded pursuit of success has led him to enjoy unparalleled economic and personal freedom.
Is Edward A Real Bad Guy?
It is easy to see how Edward could be perceived as a villain. He is a vampire who has created a dark and dangerous world for himself. He drinks the blood of humans to sustain himself and prefers to spread his venomous genes far and wide. He has little regard for the well-being of others and will stop at nothing to ensure that his precious bloodlines remain unblemished by ordinary humans. These are all legitimate concerns, but they are mostly based on Christian Grey’s interpretation of events. In reality, the story presents a much more complex picture. The film adaptation wisely focuses on the humanity of these characters rather than their monstrous nature. The filmmakers have done a wonderful job of showing us that even a seemingly evil man can be redeemed.
What About The Women In His Life?
While it is true that he has taken a shine to Bella Swan, Edward Cullen has also had a past that has included many women. This was deliberately planted in the script as a device to allow the audience to question his motives and his intentions. When we first meet him, Edward is already well established in the seduction arena and has already begun to acquire a harem of willing girlfriends. In the Twilight universe, sex is an important part of the game, and the men who play it are much more ruthless and devious than your average Casanova. The women in Edward’s life know exactly what they are getting themselves into and seem to enjoy it. Perhaps this is a result of being an immortal predator who has no limits on his appetites. It is certainly an interesting dynamic to say the least.
Will He Change?
The line between good and evil is a thin one, and even the most well-intentioned person can be seduced or corrupted by the world around them. It is not always easy to tell where one ends and the other begins. The story of Twilight does not claim that Edward Cullen will become a completely good person. He is a complex individual who still harbors some deeply-rooted and unchangeable qualities. We are meant to question whether or not his evil ways deserve to be punished, but we also need to remember that people can change for the better. It is possible for even the most unlikely candidates to walk the straight and narrow path. It would be a wonderful story if it were not so believable. This is not fantasy. This is reality. People do change for the better, even if it is not always easy.
Is Edward A Bad Influence On Bella?
This is a legitimate concern and is one of the many storylines that the Twilight movie will eventually face. At first, it seems like a natural pairing: Edward and Bella inhabit very similar social circles and share a mutual attraction. They also have a lot in common: both come from broken homes, are highly intelligent, and are highly independent. Theirs is a classic ‘boy meets girl’ scenario and it would not be surprising if they decided to link arms and stroll down the sunset terrace at the end of the day. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as with all things in life, it depends on what you want out of life. Are you looking for happiness? Or do you want to be the ultimate bad boy? There is a difference, and it is a difference that the makers of Twilight knew would exist from the very beginning. This was deliberate on their part. It is a far cry from the wholesome ‘just kidding’ atmosphere of the source material to the very dark depths of Meyer’s bestiality novel. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it is certainly a difference. The makers of Twilight knew exactly what they were getting into when they signed on the dotted line. They did not shy away from the graphic sensuality of the books and have delivered an R-rated film that will appeal to a far broader audience than their innocent young adult readers. People can and do change, but this is one addiction that they are not likely to overcome. It is not what the makers of Twilight had in mind when they set out to make the world’s most beloved vampire movie.
Summing Up
There is no question that the story of Twilight is deeply moving and has touched the hearts of millions of readers around the world. There are also many legitimate concerns about the moral behavior of these characters. Some may even question whether or not Edward is a bad influence on Bella. It is a powerful story about choice and the ability of humans to change for the better. It is not always easy, but it is certainly worth it. The design team has done an amazing job of bringing these characters to life, and we would be remiss not to admit that. It is clear that they have put a lot of thought into their costumes, makeup, and sets. It is not simply eye-catching décor. The costumes are functional, and that is essential when you are competing for attention with the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip and the distracting buzz of a modern city. The eye is immediately drawn to the costumes and the filmmakers do not disappoint. The attention to detail is outstanding and the resulting impact is undeniable. It is little wonder why Twilight is already considered one of the greatest teen fantasy franchises of all time.
