Rumor has it that the next Batman movie won’t be based on the Dark Knight comic books, but will instead focus on the early days of Bruce Wayne’s career as a crimefighter. We’re not sure whether or not this is true, but it makes sense. With the success of The Dark Knight Rises and the upcoming movie The Batman, it would seem that superhero movies are back — and perhaps, this time, they’ll stick.

While we await the first footage from The Batman, we can take a minute to consider exactly how Robert Pattinson would look as the Caped Crusader. More importantly, we can examine the similarities between Batman and the vampire film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, which is arguably Pattinson’s best performance to date.

Pattinson’s Look Is Vaguely Inspired By Burton And Nolan

As we’ve established, we don’t know much about The Batman. But we do know that it will star Robert Pattinson, who becomes the third generation of a theatrical family to play Batman. This is pretty cool in and of itself; there aren’t many families who can boast a long-standing, successful film career. Add in the fact that this is apparently a prequel set ten years before the events of the Dark Knight trilogy, and it gets even better.

Here’s what we do know: the film will be set in an unspecified city and will involve battles with super-villains. Based on the trailers so far, it seems that the movie will heavily feature action sequences, implying that it could be a while before Batman comes into his own and starts relying on his brains instead of his brawn. Judging from the looks of it, the action will take place in slow motion, which is always a good sign in trailers.

The Villains Will Make You Think Twice

But what really makes this trailer special is the villains. While they’re all pretty cool in their own right, it’s the diversity of personalities that makes them unforgettable. We get to see different versions of classic comic book baddies like the Joker, the Penguin, and the Riddler, as well as more obscure characters like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. And it looks like we’ll get to see a little bit of Alfred, too.

This film will feature a number of memorable scenes that will make you think twice about the villains’ motives. For example: the Joker has a heart attack when he sees that his money has gone missing. Or when Mr. Freeze’s girlfriend Barbara is turned into a zombie by Poison Ivy and then reanimated with her own blood. Or when Harley Quinn uses a bomb to blow up a bathroom where a group of people are having a meeting. The trailer also shows that Batman will have to face off against a team of supervillains, which should make for some exciting moments.

Pattinson’s Batman Is More Human Than The Villains In The Trailer

Another thing that makes the trailer stand out is that it gives us a deeper look into the character of Bruce Wayne/Batman. We already knew that he was a billionaire playboy who decided to put on a bat costume and became a vigilante. But here, we get to see more of his psychology, more of his backstory. And although it doesn’t give away much, it does reveal that he has a vulnerable side: he’s got issues with his parents, who he blames for his problems. The trailer shows how these issues came back to haunt him when he was faced with deciding who to trust amongst a group of supervillains.

Even The Good Guys Are Awesome

To be honest, we’re not sure who some of the good guys are in the trailer, but they’re all pretty awesome. We can’t decide whether or not to like Harvey Dent/Two-Face, but for some reason, we love Mr. Freeze. And who doesn’t love Poison Ivy? She’s got great dialogue and is very creative in her use of poisons. Plus, her design is absolutely stunning.

Of course, we can’t leave out Bruce’s parents. They’re a pretty cool couple and we’re sure that if you’ve never read the comics, you’ll have a good time with them in the film. They’re also smart choices for the parents of a superhero, we think. Finally, Gordon is portrayed as a somewhat dimwitted, but still honorable police officer, which we assume is the character from Burton’s 1989 The Burton/Wally World film. So overall, it looks like a pretty cool trailer, but still somewhat vague.

More Than Meets The Eye

If we’re being completely honest, this trailer doesn’t give us much to go on. We know that Robert Pattinson will be playing Batman, and here he is, sporting a bat costume and acting like an absolute nutter. Is he really the next Batman? It’s hard to say. But what we do know for sure is that he’ll look fantastic in a bat costume.

On the other hand, the script for The Batman is supposed to be one of the best in recent history, and that’s pretty exciting. The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Rises were both hugely successful and made a lot of money, so it’s about time that we got a Batman prequel that lives up to that standard.

As long as the script is good and the directing is adequate, this should be an interesting cinematic experiment. We just hope that they don’t rush the process and that they keep the quality high throughout. That way, we’ll get a good movie that stands out among the sea of superhero movies that are out there. It’s definitely an exciting time to be a Batman fan.
