Is Robert Pattinson planning to take on the persona of the Dark Knight yet again? Hollywood insider Meghan McCain recently tweeted that the Twilight star is “actively considering” a role in the sequel to Christopher Nolan’s 2012 blockbuster.
The British actor has been a busy boy in the last year, with filming for The Batman Part 2 already completed. He’s even more prominent these days as he’s dating the Queen of England’s granddaughter, Florence. As we’ve established, Pattinson is no stranger to donning a mask. Back in 2006 he played a dual role in Martin Scorsese’s The Dark Knight, which was in turn based on the DC Comics character. Since then he’s starred in two more Batman films and was nominated for a BAFTA for his portrayal of the Caped Crusader in The Rover.
So will Pattinson consider playing Batman yet again? Let’s take a look at the evidence.
The Growing Popularity Of The Batman Film Franchise
The Batman film franchise has now become one of the biggest and most successful comic book series adaptations of all time. It boasts a whopping nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor (for Michael Caine’s memorable performance in Live And Let Die). The first film in the series was released in 1946 and the most recent installment was released in 2017, almost 80 years later. It’s a pretty incredible feat for such a long-lived series.
The latest entry in the series, Detective Comics #27, was published on October 17th, 1939. It featured the legendary Dick Grayson, who would later assume the famous Batman moniker. Since then, more than 600 issues (over 80 years) have been published, making it one of the longest-running series in history.
Over the past year, the Batman film franchise has seen a revival in popularity. It wasn’t just about the success of Nolan’s trilogy. Although it was an important factor, the Dark Knight trilogy definitely didn’t hurt. In fact, the character has become immensely popular ever since.
According to ComScore, worldwide DVD sales for the Batman film series are now at 627 million units, making it the all-time top-selling home media franchise. Worldwide, the franchise has surpassed the previous record holder, the James Bond film series.
Another Film With The Batman Theme
The Dark Knight is, hands down, Robert Pattinson’s best and most famous role to date. He received universal acclaim for his portrayal of the caped crusader, earning him an Academy Award nomination and a BAFTA award for Best Actor. Since then, he’s appeared in two more Batman films, the most recent of which is 2018’s The Batman.
The actor is an incredible talent and it’s always a joy to watch him bring such unique characters to life. Perhaps it’s his affinity for playing dark characters that has led to his considering a role in the sequel to Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The actor has also worked with some of Hollywood’s greatest talent, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, whose own character, Bane, heavily draws from the Batman storyline.
The Biggest And Most Successful Batman Adaptation Yet
It’s been nearly 80 years since the last Batman film was released and the character has finally been given the big-budget Hollywood treatment that he deserves. The most recent entry in the series, Detective Comics #27, was adapted into a heavily anticipated big-budget film by Warner Bros. Pictures. It’s also the most expensive comic book movie yet made, with a hefty $100 million budget.
The movie was a critical and commercial success. It boasted fantastic reviews and made a fortune at the box office. According to insiders, it was also a turning point for the character, inspiring a new generation of fans. It was the first time that Batman had been on the big screen since the character was first adapted for film in the 1940s.
Warner Bros.’ The Batman will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest Batman adaptations yet. It’s unique blend of old and new, coupled with solid performances from some pretty notable talent, made for one hell of a film.
The studio has already begun work on a sequel and there are rumblings that Robert Pattinson could reprise his role. It’s an exciting time to be a Batman fan.
Another Nominated And Worthy Role For Robert Pattinson
Aside from his incredible work as Batman, Robert Pattinson has also garnered a significant amount of critical acclaim for his performance in Gucci’s latest film, The Gucci Movie. Released in March of this year, the movie stars Marion Cotillard and is based on the Italian luxury brand’s unique take on designer clothes
The film received highly favorable reviews and even landed on many top ten lists for the best films of the year. In December, Gucci named the movie the best film of the year and cited Pattinson’s “brilliant and fearless” performance as the main reason behind its high praise.
If you haven’t watched it yet, you really should. The film is both fascinating and hilarious and Pattinson’s portrayal of Gucci founder and designer Mrs. Florence Gucci is fantastic.
The Most Iconic And One Of The Most Prestigious Film Awards
The Academy Awards are undoubtedly the most prestigious awards for films and, as we’ve established, Batman is one of the most successful and long-lived comic book series adaptations ever. With nine wins to its name, it’s the most-nominated installment of all time. The Dark Knight is also tied for the record of most wins in the category with the 1966 film Dr. No. The most recent winner in this category is Black Panther for best film of the year, followed by Roma, 1917, and Parasite.
The BAFTA awards are Britain’s equivalent to the Academy Awards and Robert Pattinson won the Best Actor prize for his performance in The Batman. It’s an incredible feat for such a relatively unknown actor at the time. In fact, it was a BAFTA that made him famous.
The award was given in recognition of his groundbreaking portrayal of British poet and writer Robert Browning, who was inspired by the real-life figure, Dr. Robert Browning. It was a risky role for any actor and Pattinson made the part his own, bringing a unique perspective to the character. Some call Pattinson’s performance in The Batman one of the greatest acting debuts of all time.
Since then, the actor has gone on to star in two more Batman films, earning himself a spot among Hollywood’s greatest. Not bad for an unknown actor thrust into superstardom.
Will Robert Pattinson Play Batman Again?
The growing popularity of the Batman film franchise and its growing impact on various categories and records speaks for itself. One of the biggest and most successful comic book series ever made getting the big-budget Hollywood treatment never sounded so good. It might just be the opportunity that Pattinson has been waiting for.
The actor is an incredible talent and he’s proven time and time again that he can deliver incredible performances in unique characters. It would be a sin to not allow him to shine in a role that he truly appreciates and adores.
