This year had quite a few big events, and one of them was the Royal Wedding. While everyone was celebrating the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, we got to witness one of Hollywood’s most iconic celebrity weddings.
Among the attendees were a who’s who of Hollywood’s most famous and influential stars and celebrity social media personalities. One of the most memorable moments of the wedding was undoubtedly when Robert Pattinson and his longtime love, Rosalie Varda, exchanged vows. Not only did their wedding ceremony feature some incredible Hollywood attendees but had a truly wonderful story behind it. After many years of dating and breaking up and finally connecting again, the devoted couple decided to make their relationship public, and their love was shared with the world.
Since then, we’ve seen the beautiful bride and her ever-devoted husband grow into a lovely family and enjoy their time off together. We can’t help but wonder what their next project together will be, and what themes they’ll explore.
What Is Rob’s Upcoming Film?
Since his break-up with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson has been focusing on his acting career. While he’s had some big success in recent years with films like Good and Warm Bodies, he’s mostly been seen in comedic roles. He had a recurring role on the hit series The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 last year, and he’ll be reprising his role in a Christmas special coming soon to Netflix.
He has a lot in the works, including The Zookeeper’s Wife, The King’s Speech, and perhaps his biggest project to date, Beautiful People. The latter is a Netflix documentary series that follows celebrity makeup artist Patrice Evola as she helps prominent individuals achieve the perfect beauty look. In January 2019, Netflix renewed the series for a second season.
What Is Rosa’s Upcoming Film?
Like her husband, Rosalie Varda has largely been devoted to acting in recent years. She’s had a few supporting roles in films such as Zombieland: Double Tap and Bad Romance but mostly played a background role until recently. Since her engagement to Robert Pattinson she’s become much more active in films, mostly supporting roles.
Her upcoming projects include The King’s Speech, Little Women, and The Zookeeper’s Wife. In April 2019, it was announced that she’ll be starring in Little Women alongside fellow Hollywood celebrities Rebecca Ferguson, Sarah Paulson, and Vanessa Redgrave. The film is based on Louisa May Alcott’s 1880 novel of the same name, and it follows the story of four single women living in London in the early 1900s. Production is currently underway and the film is set for a 2020 release.
What Are Their Upcoming Collaborations?
It seems like the couple isn’t just devoted to their individual careers; they also have a genuine interest in each other’s projects. While they haven’t teamed up on a feature film yet, they have collaborated on a project for Netflix: Beautiful People. The documentary series follows celebrity makeup artist Patrice Evola as she helps prominent individuals achieve the perfect beauty look. In July 2018, a teaser for the series was released, and since then, we’ve seen a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of Evola in action as she creates stunning looks for some of Hollywood’s most famous faces.
A Lot Of Wedding Traditions Have Come From Europe
The Royal Wedding was the big event of the year, and as you’d expect there were a lot of traditions associated with it. One of the biggest events was the bride’s parents walking her down the aisle. It’s a tradition that came from Europe, and it can be traced back to Princess Victoria of Kent, who walked down the aisle in 1844 to marry Duke Frederick of Württemberg. Since then, European royalty and aristocrats have been walking their daughter down the aisle to marry their sons and grandsons to the kingdom’s future queen (or king).
Princess Alexandra of Kent, who was Kate Middleton’s great-grandmother, is the most recent royal bride to walk down the aisle.
Another famous tradition that came from Europe is the exchange of vows. It started in the 1860s and was inspired by Charles Dickens’ 1865 novel A Tale of Two Cities. In the novel, the main character, Sydney Carton, is unable to marry the woman he loves because of a controversial law. The story ends with the words, “I solemnly declare that I love you.” In 1869, Queen Victoria’s grandson, King George, decreed that a man should be allowed to marry the woman he loves regardless of their social standing. So, at the end of the 19th century, romantic weddings included a speech in which the couple vowed to love and cherish each other for the rest of their lives. It was later added to the wedding ceremony by Pope Pius XI in 1929.
How Did They Met?
Before they were an official couple, Robert Pattinson and Rosalie Varda were just one person’s opinionated fangirls who loved British novelist and poet William Shakespeare. When the opportunity to play a part in a Shakespearean comedy came up, they jumped at it.
The two met while filming The Last Laugh in 2010. At the time, Pattinson was already one of Hollywood’s most promising young stars, while Varda was enjoying her greatest success yet as a director. They bonded over their shared love of literature and became fast friends. Soon after, the couple decided to take their romance public and began dating. They were inspired by how much respect they had for one another’s personal space, and made the move slowly and deliberately. It was a decision that paid off as their celebrity and influence in Hollywood grew.
It took the couple a while to make the formal announcement of their engagement, and when they did it came as a complete surprise. On January 28th, 2017, the Twittersphere was shocked and awed to hear that Robert Pattinson and Rosalie Varda had officially chosen to spend their lives together. Since then they’ve been very busy ensuring their union is upheld by the law. In October 2018, they tied the knot in a small civil ceremony with just their closest family and friends. It was a very private and humble event without any of the glitz and glamour usually associated with a Hollywood wedding.
Why Is Their Relationship So Inspirational?
It’s not only that the two are extremely committed to one another, it’s that they’re also committed to social justice and challenging gender norms. They’ve been vocal supporters of LGBT rights, and particularly of the LGBT community in Indonesia, where Varda was born. When they found out that Indonesia had made great strides in LGBT rights, they were determined to do something about it. In 2017, the couple founded a scholarship in honor of Yogyakarta LGBT Community Centre and its executive director, Deddy Kusuma Wulan, which provides full funding for students from underprivileged backgrounds to pursue their dreams of higher education. The prestigious scholarship is called the Yogyakarta Pride Scholarship, and it provides scholarships for post-secondary studies in any field.
The Indonesian LGBT community had a big impact on Varda, and even now that she’s settled in the UK she still speaks regularly with her homeland’s members via social media. In fact, one of her proudest moments was when her mother, Baroness Varda, accepted an award on her daughter’s behalf at the 2018 Raising Asia Awards in London. In the speech that followed, Baroness Varda spoke about how proud she was of not only her daughter but also all of the LGBT people in Indonesia who worked so hard to ensure that their country became a safe and tolerant place for everyone. The speech was later posted on Twitter by Varda’s son, Kael, who wrote, “A truly inspirational speech by my mother, the Baroness Varda. Thank you for having us.”
