It’s been an emotional year for the couple who are arguably the hottest celebrity couple in the world right now. Their relationship was famously featured in the summer blockbuster, Twilight, and while they were both praised for their acting skills, many criticised their immaturity and their inability to act professionally.

The couple’s love story was so famous that it even inspired a Tumblr account, which provides an up to date count of all the films in which the Hollywood power couple have featured together.

The shipping rules are simple. Whenever Kristen or Robert appear in a movie together, it’s considered a match made in cinematic heaven while other teams are being shipped off to different dimensions.

The best estimate for the amount of Twilight and The Twilight Saga movies that will be released in 2017 is 17. That’s not a misprint. There are actually 17 Twilight movies that are set to be released in theatres around the world this year.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

The first of the 17 Twilight movies will be released in cinemas on June 7th and will be accompanied by the musical stylings of DJ Earworm. The movie is now playing in cinemas across the UK as well as Ireland, but it will be available to download from Google Play and the Apple iTunes Store in the US on June 14th.

Breaking Dawn Part 1 is the first in a trilogy of films based on Robert Pattinson’s bestselling young adult novel, The Twilight Saga. It will be followed by Part 2 and Part 3, which will be released in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

In addition to the main storyline, which follows the saga’s primary protagonist, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), as she grows up and grapples with her vampirism, the film also features several subplots and arcs which will carry on from the last film in the franchise, Breaking Dawn Part 2.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this project is director Bill Condon who is best known for bringing beloved fairy tale characters to life in his previous movies, Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. He infuses the Twilight universe with a dash of magic realism, which arguably makes the creatures and environments seem more realistic.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

It’s not just the celebrity couple who have had big successes this year either as a number of high profile movies have debuted to critical and commercial acclaim. The Amazing Spiderman 2 is arguably the best of these critically hailed flicks and is now available to download from Google Play and the Apple iTunes Store worldwide.

Sony’s highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 blockbuster, The Amazing Spiderman stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, aka Spiderman, who must once again square off against his archenemy, Dr Ben Parker (Tony Stark).

Set in an alternate present day where the original Spiderman never died and is now a pop culture icon, The Amazing Spiderman 2 explores the past, present, and future of the character, whose story continues to resonate with fans around the world.

Like its predecessor, the blockbuster sequel also features an ensemble cast, which includes Felicity Jones as Aunt May, Michael Stoll as Uncle Ben, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey, and Jamie Foxx as the iconic Black Panther.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Speaking of Hollywood icons, the release of Colin Firth’s Kingsman: The Secret Service this month has already garnered a lot of attention. The film is based on the comic book series of the same name by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Set in a contemporary England, the movie follows the espionage agency, Kingsman, as it protects a secret royal British spy, Harry Hart (Taron Egerton), who is posing as a pizza delivery boy in order to infiltrate a gang of arms dealers.

The action-packed adventure film also stars Natalie Portman, Tilda Swinton, and Mark Strong, and sees Harry join forces with his new found friends, Colin Firth’s Kingsman, to protect England from a global menace.

Star Wars : Episode VIII

If you thought that 2017 was going to be a quiet year for Disney, think again. The studio crushed that notion by releasing the highly anticipated sequel, Star Wars : Episode VIII – The Last Jedi a few days ago. Like the previous film in the series, Rogue One, Luke Skywalker is the main protagonist of the latest instalment, which sees him reluctantly return to his home planet of Tatooine to confront his former master and opponent, Darth Vader.

The most exciting aspect of The Last Jedi is the introduction of the enigmatic John Boyega as the movie’s main protagonist, Finn. Played in an extraordinary performance, Boyega perfectly captures the essence of the character, whose journey over the course of the movie is both thrilling and emotional. It also features an ensemble cast, including Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran as well as Benicio Del Toro and Mark Hamill, returning from the previous film in the series, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Last Jedi is the eighth film in the Star Wars saga and is the last in the trilogy of the prequels which began with Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. It is also the last film to be directed by George Lucas, whose vision of the saga came to an end with this installment.

Justice League

Just as 2017 was drawing to a close, Warner Bros unleashed a mega-blockbuster of an entirely different flavour onto audiences around the world. The culmination of over a decade of development hell and an incredible amount of hype, Justice League stars The CW comedy’s favourite superheroes, The Flash (John Wesley Shipp), Batman (Kevin Durand), Ironman (Rufus Ruffin Senior), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher), who must unite and battle both the Legion of Doom, led by Lex Luther (Mark Hamill) as well as an ancient mystery. Much like Marvel Studios’ The Avengers, Justice League features a superteam of famous comic book heroes who must work together to save the day.

Christopher Robin

Finally, rounding off this list is director Christopher Robin, which was first shown at the Cannes Film Festival this year and later released in the UK on December 15th. Starring Will Marshall, Megan Fox, and Ben Kingsley, this adult-centric tale centres on the unlikely friendship formed between a legendary cartoonist named E.C. Seymore (Marshall) and the ever-optimistic, yet naïve boy named Christopher Robin (Robin Williams).

The movie is loosely based on the life of cartoonist, author, and illustrator, A.C. Crichton, who was best known for his humorous comic strip, Black Hoodie, as well as a series of bestselling children’s novels, the first of which was named after him: The Far Side of Tomorrow. The movie explores the friendship which bloomed between writer and artist as they navigate both their professional and personal worlds.

The success of these movies means that the year ahead promises to be a glittering one for celebrity duos, with many more on the way. It also means that fans of the hit TV show, The Handmaid’s Tale, may have some special wedding bells to ring in the New Year. At least, that’s what the Internet is telling us.
