The couple, who started dating in 2011, tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at an undisclosed location in France on Saturday night.

The Twilight co-stars exchanged vows before an audience of family and friends, with more than 300 guests in attendance. The 32-year-old actor wore a custom-made, white wedding dress, while Kristen wore a stunning, strapless white gown. The actress walked down the aisle to Mendelsson’s ‘Wedding March’ by Mendelssohn, and then recited her vows.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed an open bar with complimentary canapés and champagne, as well as an elaborate, three-tiered wedding cake, which was adorned with flowers and candles. The newlyweds then cut the cake, displaying a golden engagement ring, and posed for photos with their guests.

Honeymoon Plans

The newlyweds are looking forward to their first vacation as a married couple. “We’ve been dreaming of a wedding like this for so long, and to finally make those dreams a reality is such an amazing feeling,” said the actress. “We’re over the moon.”

The couple, who grew up next to each other and began their professional careers at the same time, first met in 2010 at MacLemanish Castle in Lanarkshire, Scotland, while on holiday with their girlfriends. The Scottish Gothic-style castle, which was featured in the 2006 film, Brave, was the setting for one of the episodes of the Netflix hit series Love, the story of Beth and Jerry Fletcher. The episode, ‘MacLemanish Castle’, features the couple’s elaborate proposal. In the show, Beth accuses Jerry of being a control freak who forces her to choose between the hotel restaurant and room service, and wanting to know if she will marry him.

Robert has been open about his nervousness about getting married, which is why he chose to marry outside of the U.S. “I picked a different country where we could have a nice wedding and get the marriage certificate without too much hassle,” he told Vanity Fair in April. “I was talking to a friend just the other day and she was saying how nervous she was about getting married. I’ve just been through a really hard time in my life, and I just want a nice, simple ceremony.”

In 2015, Robert revealed that he and Kristen were working on getting their own apartment and started looking for houses in New York City, where they both grew up. Despite his busy schedule, he took time off to help with the wedding preparations. “It was literally just the two of us for 10 months,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It was the most amazing experience.”

Kristen added: “I feel really lucky to have found someone who I can share my entire life with. It was a really organic process. We just fell into it.”

Together For The Long Haul

The couple have been together for six years and have managed to stay faithful despite Kristen’s busy schedule as an actress. “She travels a lot for work and I feel like I’ve learned to be content with the things that I have,” said the actor. “The amount of respect that I have for Kristen is extraordinary, she’s such a powerful woman. I have learned not to want more than she can give.”

Robert has also been open about his battles with addiction, which eventually led to his breakdown in 2016. He later checked into a rehab facility for his recovery, which he credited with saving his life. “I feel like I’ve been given a second chance at life, honestly,” he said. “It’s been an amazing journey.”

As for their future children, the couple are looking to expand their brood. “We both feel very lucky that we’ve been able to do this without any trouble. Naturally, we’re both very excited about expanding our family,” said Kristen. “Our biggest challenge will be finding the right person to share our lives with.”

Wedding Bouquet

The couple’s bridal bouquet was designed by Stephen Jones, the florist for Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral, and features flowers from all over the world. “We wanted to create a wedding that reflected the diversity of our native land,” Stephen told The Huffington Post. “I wanted to use flowers that were not commonly used in wedding bouquets, like the orchid, which is one of the world’s most magnificent flowers.”

Jones said that he had only done one other wedding, in the U.K., and that this would be the biggest one yet. “I’ve worked with the most amazing designers, and this is one of the best projects I’ve ever worked on,” he said. “It’s the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever seen.”

The wedding cake was designed by British baker Lindsey Arran, and features a three-tiered design. The top layer is made entirely out of chocolate, the center layer is filled with cream, and the bottom layer is made out of butter cream. The wedding cake, which was first featured in the 2004 King’s Lynn Tournament of Bakewell, was originally inspired by the cake created for Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral. The designer said that the cake was a “bastion of common sense” that would please any brides and grooms.

Meanwhile, the celebration was recorded for a documentary of the same name, which will be aired on U.S. network HBO in February. The film follows the couple’s preparations for the wedding and details the highs and lows of their relationship. Production on the film began in December 2017. “It was important for us to show the world this happy, loving couple,” said director Katie Silberman. “This was a real couple’s wedding and, in some ways, the most intimate day of their lives.”

Marriage License

According to the Daily Mail, which first reported the story, British law requires that couples get a marriage license before they can wed. The application for the license must be made at least four weeks in advance of the wedding. Once the license is issued, the couple are then free to wed without a waiting period.

Robert and Kristen’s marriage was certainly less traditional, with no bridal shower and no bachelorette party. The actor’s brothers, James and Luke, and his cousin, Harry, were among the 300 guests who attended the wedding. However, the ceremony was followed by a traditional buffet wedding dinner, which saw the bride sit at the head table with the groom. The bride then cut the wedding cake, which was followed by presents and congratulations.

The couple’s guest list also included actors Jason Bateman and Jane Fonda, model Miranda Kerr and her husband, photographer Peter Lindbergh. The wedding was followed by a reception at London’s Highbury Barn, where the couple were joined by friends and family. The newlyweds were then driven back to their rented apartment in central London, where they spent their first night as husband and wife.

While in London, the couple were interviewed by various news outlets, including the BBC and the New York Times, for their first and only press conference as a married couple. When asked about their wedding day, Robert told the Times: “It was beautiful, it was a gorgeous, sunny day. It was one of the most incredible days.” When asked about their future children, the couple said: “We definitely want lots of kids. We want to have children together and see what happens.”

This will be the first of many events that the couple plans to celebrate as husband and wife. “We’ve got a really fun life ahead of us,” said Kristen. “We’re finally going to be able to put all this time behind us and be together as a family. It’s such an amazing feeling.”
